View Full Version : DS Leads Australia for 2006 First Half
The Interactive Entertainment Association of Australia (IEAA) today announced tha the sales of games, software and hardware reached byeond $343 million for the first half of 2006, an increase by 8% over last year inspired by the success of the DS.

Statistics compiled by GfK Australia - the research group behind the weekly sales charts - show that the increase was fueled by a considerable surge in handheld consoles, sales of which are up to $68 million - a staggering 56% increase on the same time last year. Meanwhile, console hardware sales are up 27%, to $118 million.
“The computer and video games market continues to go from strength to strength with growth across both hardware and software segments,” said GfK Senior Account Manager, Daniel Morse.
“Notably, the figures for the first half of 2006 have been fueled by a massive leap in the popularity of handheld games and the introduction of next generation platforms,” he continued.

Considering the Top Handheld game is a PSP title:rolleyes:
And the Console all ps2 titles apart from the last one.
Doesnt this mean which games are selling best, and if GTA LCS beats all of the NDS games which are newer than GTA?????

A console can do well and sell a variety of games rather than one game. Halo sold most of the XBOXs at one time, and was probably at the top of the charts, but did that make the XBOX the top selling system?

Umm...no. GTA: VCS comes no where CLOSE to the Pokemon GB titles.
FF III for the DS has already sold out in Japan with over 500,000 titles sold in the first WEEK. Once it hits European and U.S. shores expect more of the same.
And the Console all ps2 titles apart from the last one.
And this thread has NOTHING to do with home consoles.

Your Sony fanboi outlook is bizarre considering Sony's actions over the last year concerning both the PSP and PS3.
You've obviously been brain-washed by their PR campaign and can no longer produce an informed opinion.

Surly if i were a fanboy i would only own sony consoles???
The title here says DS Leads Australia, hows that if a DS game isnt at the top, its a DS game was at the top then yea it leads, but it seems GTA LCS is doing better than the DS games in the pic.

I only see 2 PSP games, so obviously, those are the only 2 games selling...meaning...the DS has better games (in the opinion of Australian people) based on that chart. Take this for example (just imaginary numbers for a math like word problem :p):
GTA: 1million copies
DS games: 400,000 each
Which sold more? DS games, but none of them sold INDIVIDUALLY more than GTA, they outsold it together, see what I'm saying? Being #1 doesn't nessisarily mean the console or software for the console is selling better, as a WHOLE, the DS is doing better, that is the point of this topic, but you seem to be missing that...

no it doesnt mean its the only two, it means its the top two.
Dont forget that these games are baught seperate, not with a console.
The DS is £99 with the games above so they are bound to sell more as its cheaper.
I dont see any DS title that has won game of the year award, do you?
GTA LCS on launch (not long after the psp) sold massive ammounts and got the award, and is still selling more copies almost a year after its release, ive never seen a console title sell for this long.

And me saying that the top of the list isnt a ds title christ pspwad ?
Ds sell with the games, gta lcs doesnt sell as a pack with the psp so considering its a stand alone game selling better than a ds bundle.
Lets just agree not to agree

the reason why GTA is there is the same reason halo2 sells so well, there isnt anything else on the system in the same league as it, If you have a PSP and you want a good game what do you buy..umm..GTA, what option do you have?
DS dont always sell with a game either, what you talking about with that? You can buy bundles made up by the shop, in the same way you can buy a GTA bundle if you wanted. Since the 2 nintendogs games are 2 and 3, im sure the same gamer hasnt bought 2 copies of essentially the same game, so the combined sales of that are probably much higher then GTA.
Nintendo ROCK, Sony SUCK. Its so obvious even australia realises it!

Ok PSP doesnt have any good games, yea right, just GTA games have allways been big sellers and allways will.
And yes nintendo do sell the DS in bundle packs, look at:
http://www.game.co.uk/lowdown.aspx?lid=4726
so people would rather pay the same price and get a free game
So im guessing people will buy the console bundle more than the DS alone that costs the same.

i said "dont ALWAYS come as a pack". At the time they were first released the package was only slightly cheaper than the game and console seperatly, If you dont want nintendogs, then you dont buy the nintendogs package do you? Nintendogs is in the chart becasue alot of people wanted it and went out and bought it either on its own or with a DS.
Theres also a whole list of PSP packages.

Actually the DS Lite alone sells better (as there are no bundles for it).

Actually the DS Lite alone sells better (as there are no bundles for it).
So your telling me youd pay £99 for a ds then have to pay £29.99 for a game which you could get for £99 with the ds?
I asked game in hull which sells better, stand alone ds, or the ds with a game, they told me that pre-orders on the DSlite was almost equal to the total sales of the origional DS console (inc the mario kart bundle) and now the sales of the DS lite bundle beat the sales of the stand alone DS.
So i must be right, people would rather pay the same price and get a free game.
So maybe the PSP could be the same if they offered a game with the PSP for the same price of the PSP console alone.
