I have a PSP 1.5 and i was think of installing a modchip in my PSP.
Is it smart to install a modchip in a 1.5 PSP. Or is it better to wait?
I have devhook 0.46 running in my psp?

It is better to wait, as DevHook is more compatible than Epsilon (which wold be the only reason to get he chip is the ability to run hombrew/backups). The prices will only go down on the modchip so if you have a WORKING PSP that is 1.5 I wouldn't risk it or spend money on it right now unless you REALLY want a modchip. As for me I'm getting a 2nd PSP to chip, and not using my 1.5 ;)!

I have a CAD 1.5 and i went from 1.5 -> 1.51 -> 2.71 -> modchip. If you have 1.5 you can do almost everything a chip can do except using the ep bios allows you to boot 2.5+ games without a umd disk.
Also I have to disagree, people have been saying ep has the best compatability ratio so far and only 1 game i cannot get to work and thats burnout. Devhook works on ep I tested it last night but do not use the devhook 2.xx to 1.5 mod as it will end up "bricking" well get you stuck in a loop so you will have to flash 2.71 back on so no big deal but I love my chip and im very happy with it. Doesn't seem to make it any heavier and as I said a 1.5 can almost do everything a chip except i love the fact I dont need a UMD for the latest games :) But ya, wait it may come to it when 3.0 comes out you may need a chip who knows what sony has in store :)

I have a 1.5 Psp and I have been using Devhook which is pretty cool. What really got me interested in the Modchip is the complete unbricking capabilities, the fact that you do not need to use a UMD (I hate them) and the Epsilon Bios already has high compatibility. It will only get better. I think Devhook is great but if the worst comes to the worst, with the Modchip you can have all emulation on 1.5 firmware and then run everything else on a flashed 2.8 or 3.0. However I expect Team Epsilon to be able to update the Bios to support 2.8++. I have just sent my Psp of to be modded and have the onboard USB modified so you can flash from the same Port. I am looking forward to using it.

You guys make good points, but keep in mind, unless you've bricked your PSP, or just want a modchip, it REALLY isn't worth the money. DevHook does power down the UMD drive after booting the game, so no issues there with a lot of power consumption. And again, i'm not AGAISN'T the chip, but until it can do something that 1.5 cannot (not including no UMD), then it's not REALLY worth buying, as prices will get lower in the future...

You can chip 2.7+ psps and downgrade them :)

Here are the plain details:
PSP (w/ non-TA-082 Mobo)
Downgrade Cost (free if already 1.5, free if 2.0 or lower, $35 USD for used GTA if 2.01 or higher)
Modchip Cost ($100 for the chip, installation cost can be up to $120 if you can't do it yourself)
What you can do with the Chip:
1. Flash onboard NAND and Flash chip NAND
2. Run 1.5 and 2.8+ or Epsilon patched 2.71
3. Run Homebrew
4. Run ISOs (No UMD, less compatiblity with Epsilon patched 2.71)
5. Compress ISOs (less compatible with EZIP)
6. Recover from any brick.
What you can do with a 1.5 PSP:
1. Flash onboard NAND with any firmware up to 2.6 and still have the ability to flash it back to 1.5
2. Run Homebrew
3. Run ISOs (better compatibility than Epsilon ATM but UMD needed, UMD powers down durring game)
4. Compress ISOs (compatible with almost all games)
5. Recover from cosmetic brick (with custom firmwares).

Very simply if your on a budget then don't get it (i am very much on a budget so i'll eat my words...... later) If you can afford then do!! I'm still having installation problems with mine!?!?? but I would'nt swap it when it is working for all the devhooks in the world (though please don't get me wrong I think devhook is frickin great;) )
When it does work for people and I am sure I'm one of the few that it doesn't... kinda work (....install problems!??!) It gives you piece of mind that i can try anything out on my psp (software wise) and bring it back from the dead plus all i have to do is stick an iso in the ISO's folder on the card and boot straight from the menu ;) Bellissimo!
