UK: Play Open Up Pre-Order For Wii & Wiisports - Games for £49.99?

Leading UK online retailer Play have put up the Wii along with Wii Sports for pre-order. There are no specific release dates for each product, but while the Wii console doesn't have a price yet, they've put a price of £49.99 on Wii Sports. So much for Wii games being super cheap eh? This isn't definite of course and perhaps most likely just a placeholder.

No way that cant be right can it. They have PS3 games there for £49.99.

I thought their motion sesnsing controllers and peripherals would be expensive, but not the games.

when shops add new items like this, its common practice to put the highest price it could be, if they dont know the actual price. nintendo have said that games will be cheap, so they will be. id expect an rrp of 35 quid for most games, and some games coming in at 20 - 25, just like they do on the DS.

I've seen enough of the game to know its crap. I would have thought £20 at the very very most. You would have to be off youre rocker to pay £49.99 for wii sports. It is an abysmal attrocious game. I thought they were going to give it free with the wii.

its not my reasoning, its nothing to do with me personnally, if a title is available to preorder and the shop makes it available at a price which is less than the rrp turns out to be, they usually have to honour that sale, where as if they state it higher and the rrp is less, then they only charge the rrp and lose nothing and dont piss off a customer. Its common practice, and common sense.

if you think wii sports is coming out for 50 quid on the 25/12/06, i think there maybe a few problems with that, since thats christmas day aswell, but, on your reconing. play knows everything and those details are fact....

u think that's bad? my cousin works at nintendo and his best friend is iwata's nephew's favorite pizza delivery boy, and he said for sure those prices are iron clad as of now (and when they said Wii for under 250, they meant EUROS, and they really meant 250X10 so ur gonna pay 2500 Euros for a Wii), he said it's not just a thing by Play to try and show they will have the game, that price is gonna stick, and might actually double (depending how much fridays go by from now until dec.25,2006.. if it's an even number it doubles, odd number it stays same). Go Figure.

Plays policy is, if you order it at a price, you never pay more than that for it. So if you preorder a game for 17.99 and it goes up to 25.99, you still only pay 17.99 (if it goes less, your preorder goes down with it though). Thats the only reason they have it listed at 49.99 - because they dont know the price yet, and if they were to mark it at 30 and it came out at 35 they'd be losing money on every preorder.

Also, WiiSports looks fragin ace! I cant wait to act like a nonse with my mates playing it.

The prices for PS3 & wii games are the same price on play and lik sang. How can they both have that maximum price?

Surely blu-ray discs should be more expensive? I thought wii games would generally be cheaper.

I thought they were saying they PS3 games would be £60, not £32.80 at liksang and £49.99 at play. Shouldnt complain really megadrive games were about £40 back in the day.

Yea I agree no way is wii sports going to cost £49.99 I expect wii sports will probably end up selling for about £35 or less.

But as to your other point the sad fact is the recommended retail price for most 360 games (and I suspect most ps3 games when its released) is £49.99 or $90 as you pointed out. Moral of the story is us Brits get ripped off silly
