So I've been trying to find out about hacking the DS, and it seems quite a bit more complicated than the PSP is.

First is all of these flash carts. Why are there so many of them? What do they all do? What's the best combination to have to run DS games and homebrew from memory?

What is the homebrew like? If someone could compare it with the PSP's homebrew that would be great.

My biggest thing "against" the DS are the games. There doesn't seem to be a whole lot of games that I would enjoy. New Super Mario, and maybe Tetris DS and super mario 64 DS are the only ones that seem to excite me. What other great games are out there?

In the time it takes to post a new thread you could find all your answers by reading the ones already active. Its not in a special code or anything...

The best Flash cart out there now is the M3. But it will sitck out on a lite. Another great one is the G6, which has 512MB of internal memory. The M3 takes SD/Mini SD cards, so its upgradable, unlike the G6. There are so many cause companies want money.

Not a big PSP homebrewer, but it seems the PSP's HB goes beyond the DS's in quantity. But the DS does have a IRC client, a EMail Client, MSN messenger, AIM is comming soon, and a media player. There is much more of course. But those are the big ones.

PHeonix Wright: Ace Attourny, Kirby Canvus Curse, Advance Wars Dual Stirke, Mario Kart DS, Tony Hawk, and more. Tetris DS is my favorite game I have played though. The online is AWESOME.

Comming is Zelda DS, Star Fox, Harvest moon, and some other neat little titles.

Also, check out the NDS homebrew cast. Our first episode was kinda bad cause I was shy and stuff, but it has some info in it. Email us with anymore questions and we will answer them on the air for you.

There's another question, does online games work fine with the M3 and G6?

You can play any online game with any flashcart.

The great MR COW has answered most of your questions but I will tackle one. As for the best choice to get everything up and running its all up to you. I find the best combo to be my SuperCard mini-SD, PassKey3/SuperKey, and my ATP ProMax 150X 2GB miniSD.

If all you want is the best DS game support, homebrew support, and ok GBA game support pick this combo. However, if you want to play more GBA then DS games I would suggest everything the same except for the SuperCard miniSD swapped for the M3 Slim miniSD which has better GBA support. Although the M3 is quite more expensive then the SuperCard and the SuperCard is just as good if not better in the DS games department!

So to get you going you would need just this:

SuperCard miniSD bundled with the SuperKey - $72 (http://www.realhotstuff.com/supercard-minisd-superkey-bundle-p-78.html)
Ritek 150X 1GB miniSD - $22 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820183011)

Total = $94
Less Shipping = aprox $110

As I said if you want better GBA performance but a device that sitcks out of your DS Phat then choose the M3 Slim miniSD. See the SuperCard miniSD looks like a regular GBA game and sits flush with the DS Phat which makes it more appealing as it makes your DS look normal. See the SuperCard goes into the GBA slot, the SuperKey/PassCard3 goes into the DS game slot, and the miniSD goes into the bottom of the SuperCard and stays hidden.

If you have a DS Lite then I would suggest waiting a few weeks for the new versions from SuperCard and M3 with their new Lite products. I wouldn't suggest the G6 Lite even though it sits flush with the DS Lite since you want to do homebrew and probably want a lot of memory space.

The G6 Lite only has 512MB where with the SuperCard and M3 you can go as big as you want! 1GB 2GB 4GB! I just suggested 1GB on the miniSD card but you can go higher if you want. But you'll want to stay with miniSD's that have at least 60X in speed as you don't want slowdown in your games. I recommend cards with 150X but thats just me. Its all up to you but I hope I have made everything a bit easier for you to understand.

I just wanted to add in a question:

If i get the supercard mini-sd and the superkey, do I still need to flash the FW of my DS? I have one of those teal ones that people said used to be difficult to flash. If I do flash it do I still need the superkey or do I need the superkey just for flashing purposes? Thanks

I'd get the superkey and then flash it

No you do not need to flash your DS. The reason flashing started was that the passme cards were huge devices that hung over your DS and made it look like crap. Now the passme cards are the same size as DS games and allow sleep mode even! Once you get the SuperKey your set and have to do nothing else but play!
