Greetings,

I just got my Viper Extreme, installed it, started up the cube, and flashed it with 1.6 bios (which worked)..

However.. I can't use the CobraBackup.exe

When I try to use it, it says: "Cobra BIOS not responding correctly, try again. Make sure the 2 switches are off and that you're in the cobra bios menu."

Well, the 2 switches are off, and I'm in the Cobra bios menu.

Also when I am in the Viper Bios, it says that the USB adaptor is not found under Configuration Menu > Version Info

This is odd, because I used the USB adaptor to flash the bios..

Anyone have any idea whats going on?

It looks like I am having some other problems too..

Any information that is supposed to be saved in the Cobra menu, might be saved, and might not be saved..

As in, If I change a setting (such as have the CD tray be closed or passthrough) .. and then restart the gamecube, it may or may not have that setting saved (probably not)..

Same thing with cheat codes, they don't seem to save most of the time.. Sometimes it even freezes while on "Saving cheat codes..."

Also I think that reading from the modchip has a problem .. one time it did save the cheat code when I powered off and on, and another time they were all gone..

Could there be a problem with one of my soldering wires? which one?

Ok .. it looks like I didnt attach the USB adaptor to the serial port and thats why it wasn't detected / having problems.

But I am still having problems with the cheat codes and all that

ive got those setting problems too depending what cobra version i use, even the video mode setting is working bad sometimes, or worst reset the settings area, i got both extrem and original, and only extrem do those "bugs" for me...
try downgrade cobra and save settings to see if it realy save them.
bios version/region??
There is only 4 wires to solder, so its easy to check them...

i've been switching between 1.6 and 2.0 bios, region is US I guess (they are in english)

the problem persists in both versions of the bios (viper extreme chip)

try a older cobra, swap to 1.5 or even older, only to see if the settings are still not saved, from what u sayd its not working sometimes and work some others or even depend settings your trying to save, and ive got this too, but only on extrem and newer bios, and definitly just a bug in the code, work like a charm with same cable/cobra version and old viper.
By region/bios version i mean of the cube itself, cobra i understood u where using 1.6 lol, u have both in cobra information menu.

update:
nevermind .. resoldering didn't do anything .. I wonder if the usb attachment might be causing these problems .. while it was not attached to my computer or the serial port i was having much less problems and now that it is attached it is not reading the saved settings at all

i'm also having problems with the usb adaptor.
i've just flashed my viper to v2.0 (from 1.6) and it says that it can't find the adaptor in de cobra menu (as it did with the 1.6) but i was able to flash the chip so it should work.

the adaptor is pluged into the serial port and both switches are off.
but i still get the "Cobra BIOS not responding correctly, try again. Make sure the 2 switches are off and that you're in the cobra bios menu." error.

anyone knows what could be wrong?

*edit* come to think of it, there seems to be a led on the usb board, but it never lids.
Should the led lid up when the cube is powered and the board connected to the serial port?

maybe they supplied me with a broken adaptor, or the gamecube port is dodgy..

I just received another viper extreme, This time from divineo.com (US dep.) instead of their German dep. and this time i got a working usb adaptor.

Now, if i could only get Divineo Germany to reply, and exchange my bad adaptor..
