View Full Version : The DS Lite LCD Passes Pressure Test With Flying Colours!
The DS Lite may be small and cute, but it appears as if it's by any means weak. Some dudes decided to really test how strong the DS Lite's LCD was by applying immense pressure to the screen, it appears as if the DS Lite LCD passed the test and came out as strong as ever!
This video was made to show how STRONG the DS LITE LCD is. I was quite suprised. The DS Lite is a very strong system.
I did this at a wal~mart on a store display.

A number of Lites, mine included have broken after prolonged New Super Mario Brothers playing.
The system would power off when pressing the Y+B combo.

quote:
"I called Nintendo. They have a few reports of this happening. They said its because of the high usage of those keys in a game like nsmb that sometimes they are pressed too hard and the connector breaks causing it to shut off.
They are sending me a new one, should be here in a few days. I just have to pack my old ds in a box they give and send it back."
Now I'm not in a habbit of hammering my keys, so I guess all the "robustness" testing went into the screen and not the keys.
What a jackass. If you want to do stuff like this do it to your own DS.
People seem to have no conscience when it comes to screwing stores.
It's the same with the "I'll just brick my TA-082 PSP and return it to the store". If you try stuff like this you should live with the consequences.

This is quite painful to watch, I'm rather impressed it survived.

I was just going to say the same thing, it made me cringe to watch that. Pretty robust though.

Concidering the majority of stores often return defective units and returns to the manufacturer for working units, the store doesnt eat much looses. wal-mart destroys hundreds of dollars of perfectly fine food and merchandise daily CRY ME A RIVERRRRR

It's nice to see that it can take the abuse ... makes me feel a little better. But they could have placed a thicker piece of protective plastic over the LCD. Especially where this is a TOUCH screen and people will be TOUCHING it. Should have been a little bit thicker plastic used.

This video literally made my stomach turn - I could barely endure watching it. I treat my gaming devices like mint collector's items - all my handheld's are completely void of any nicks, scratches, or anything that makes it appear to have been used - so mine will never see anything close to this kind of abuse. However, it IS nice to know it can take the heat :)
p.s. The way the video cuts out at the end suggests to me that the penlike object they were grinding into the screen last probably DID succeed in destroying the screen. Lesson : Don't use sharp objects on a delicate electronic device
