THIS IS NOT AN OFFICIAL COBRA RELEASE. IT IS BUGGY. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK. YOU NEED A VIPER EXTREME, IT DOESN'T WORK WITH THE ORIGINAL VIPER.
I DECIDED TO RELEASE THIS LEAKED VERSION SO THAT PEOPLE CAN SEE AND TEST THE NEW FEATURES, AND TO SPEED UP AN OFFICIAL RELEASE. YES, THEY ARE STILL WORKING ON AN OFFICIAL RELEASE, SO JUST BE PATIENT IF YOU DON'T WANT TO USE AN UNOFFICIAL VERSION.
IT HAS BEEN TESTED ON A PAL 1.2 GC, THAT'S IT. IT MIGHT OR MIGHT NOT WORK AT ALL ON ANY OTHER GAMECUBE VERSION.
IF YOU STILL WANT TO USE THIS BIOS, RENAME COBRA20.FAKE (NAME CHOSEN SO PEOPLE READ THIS TEXT FIRST) TO COBRA20.VGC

nice to see an update for the chip atlast, so far its shown nothing of its potential. usb iso booting is great :)

I' d have to think that if they've made it this far, why wouldn't they want to push and just finish. Looks like they've made super good progress. So I'm guessing one of two things. One there are some major problems, or they've come up with a great feature that they are really working on to get done before the large release. Either way thanks for the release but I'm going to wait it out.

Why would posting a "leaked version" speed up the release? Wouldn't it just piss the Mental Cube team off?

It says it won't work on the Original Viper. Any ideas if this will work on the Viper whwn it's officially released? Seems unfair that some of the features won't be available to the original viper owners.

woh that's just awesomes features !!
Too bad that it only comes so far in the GC's lifecycle :p
I don't think any other mochip on the market (looking at xbox, ps2...) can come close to the number of features of the chip, maybe if final version allows everything to play smoothly, i'll replace my qoob pro ;)

a great release!
I am using it right now and everthing seems to work...
But I wasn't able to transfare any files to the flash of the chip until I copied a file from dvd over to it...but at least NOW it works...
Even streaming of PC to TV works...but not that great...you don't see the cursor...I tried to stream a video using this function, but it did not run smooth...
So let's see and wait IF and when mental cube is going to release this sucker offically (but still it seems to work great atm) Propably they want to make a App which is capable of all this great features in one, without using single .exe-files for every function...
Another bug might be, that the gamecube freezes, if you start the game in Screenshot mode using the exe (you have to otherwise you can't take a screenshot (same with gameremote) and than start it again accidently using the command...)
:-D I'll have to make a Skin now, as the Skinmaker works perfectly, too!
EDIT: I'm using a 1.0 PAL gamecube
did you test streaming of iso's?
I flashed this onto my chip and didnt notice any differences. The menus look the same, and the only program that seemed to work was the cobra manager. I'll wait for an official release to bother trying again.

The bottom line is that I don't care if Cobra 2.0 is "official" or "unofficial". If it lets me play burned GC games without the use of that stupid original disc swap technicue that I have to use to get a reasonable boot ratio for any DVD-R medium (and yes, I use high quality stuff- found what works best for me through testing) with Cobra 1.6, then I am in.
Does it let me boot burned DVDs of GC games without using the swap technique and give me the same DRE ratio?

i only got 1 dre in all my time playing with my gc and it was due to a bad media (budget mdvd) and it was with cobra 1.6. Never got a dre with gcos1.5 (the bios i was using) and till now not a dre with this viper 2.0wip.
for the people that cannot change theme:
1-flash the bios to 2.0
2-reboot the cube and switch the usb switch
3-with the cobra manager, flash the bios to gcos1.5(only tested with gcos1.5 but maybe it will do the sme thing with any other bios) and magically the add button becomes avaiable!)
4-just add the theme
5-reboot the cube and switch the usb switch on
6-flash back to viper 2.0 (using old flash program)
this worked for me ;)
i dont want this **** functions, i want no more DREs, or less DREs, just this, and i want know if this **** have this change, and if this can be run on original, if will have features or not, **** man, i really dont care, how i say in other topic, my videocard have a videoout i dont need this **** useless function
Use good media and a good burner.
cobra cant fix your dre issues with their bios.
burner: NEC ND-3540
media: philips dvd+r 12 cm
laser tweak: 200 ohm
bios: cobra 1.2
and i never have dre's

This bios seriously kicks ass! I tested it with my friends on two PAL 1.2 and one NTSC 1.0 and it seems that every feature works fine!
State save is the most surprising feature, I know that this feature exists in emus, but I didn't think it was possible to do that on real hardware. I tested it on a couple of games, it works but I'd say I needed 2 or 3 tries before restoring a state successfully... Game remote is sweet too, if only a GUI expert would do a nice GUI for it! :p
Regarding ISO streaming, usbstreamer_old_choppy.exe seems to be the most compatible streamer (other crash with many games), but it's not as smooth. I won't play any game with that tool, but to test games before burning it's just fine. We couldn't make it work on NTSC 1.0 but it worked fine on PAL 1.2, strange...
Now I wish someone creates a nice theme with icons instead of text for main menu, that'd rock! :D

hope they will release soon real cobra 2.0
Im having pal 1.0 bios / drive16 and the info page say viper usb adapter not found :(
(like in official 1.5/1.6...)
but still i can flash and boot bios...
Tryed run some dols within flash memory (starloader mgs, ripper, memory card backup) but none could run, of course they do run when i launch them by the dvd (i cant write the flash mem from pc since adapter not found, still i can write by the dvd to flash mem), i havent tryed to use some "recent" dols, like to test with dolz or gcos, guess not even needed to test, it will not work as the dvd could load others even if they are old fashion.
Anyone have same issue about usb adapter NEVER found?
Edit: Ok nevermind, got it working now, usb streamer is working (slow but work), but i still cant use dols within the damn flash mem (dolsendusb work fine)

Yes I have the Cobra 2.0 Wip, I am in the main menu and both DIP Switches are OFF.
And all working fine (DOLSendUSB, IsoStream, Cobrabackup...). Just the Cobra Manager doesn't work...
theres no reason for it to work with the original, all the new features are with the usb which only the viper extreme has.
you can use the USB dongle even with the original Viper GC... you just need to buy the stand alone USB adapter, it's supported in Cobra 1.5 and 1.6...
i don't see why they can't release a 2.0 version for the Viper GC with all the functionalities except the ones that needs the extra memory of the Extreme (no themes, just basic interface, ecc)
the size of the vgc file is still under 128Kb afair, so there's still room for improvements even on the non Extreme version

I'm unsure, I hope more can be done, but I think for features like in game screenshots etc that the flash space may be used on the mod to assist with this.. (again unsure)
If i owned a VGCe I would take a look at these things but yeah.. I don't have plans for it anytime soon.. possibly in a month i might.

well, i'd like to see bugs in the version 1.6 fixed (2 disc games doesn't always work for example) before bothering about new functionalities :D
if they're going to fix those things and make the new bios fit in the small Viper memory, i'll be more than happy to leave all the advanced stuffs to Viper Extreme users :p
unless the new GCOS will fit in the Viper memory :D

Just to say i made a some check, updating the extrem to plug'n'play case mod was damn a hell hard mod instead of the old chip, anyway, ive tryed to power on/off 30 times with the cobra 1.6, never got stuck.
With this beta 2.0, i could not got more than 5 shoots, ive tryed that a LOT of times, flashing a lot too, and i never been able to boot it more than 5 times and then stuck in please wait screen... shutdown/power up few times fixes the problem of course, but still its very unstable, running 1.0 PAL bios, hope it will be fixed so it run normaly.
Very thx for this release, even if i could not use most feature correctly i got a nice preview and i could anticipate a lot on what i will or not do with this new cobra (who rox btw).
I flashed to the 2.0 bios just fine (turn #2 switch on, turn GC on, flash, turn GC off, turn #2 switch off), in the menu it says that it is version 2.0..
However none of the 2.0 features (PC programs) can connect to the viper's USB adaptor.. it just, doesn't work
the adaptor is connected to my PC just fine (got the sound that says its connected) but these programs can't connect to it..
EDIT: fixed the problem ... lol @ plugging the usb adaptor into the serial port
I am having trouble streaming games to the gamecube though

It's all nice and good from mentalcube to release this one earlier. Thing is, if he really wants to achieve something, where to report our findings ?
Cause as some others, the iso streaming doesn't work, the version of snes9x GX .4 that was posted on this forum ( and other things not going to mention again ) doens't find the DVD drive, and the savestate saves and almost restores but then stays frozen.
It all looks real nice though :)
GC version 1.4 here, hope it gets supported as it should ;)

Just wanted to say that you can now have a crazy amount of BIOS's on your GCN at any one time. Right now I have Cobra 2.0 flashed onto it, and with the new Flash file browser and the capability to flash any program to the 2MB of flash memory, I also have GCOS and GCOM. Plus I have a SNES emulator and NES emulator stashed on there.
Also for ME- for the first time ever my USB Adaptor works!!! Didn't work in the previous versions for me- I have the 1st ever model of GCN- NTSC 001
Thanks!!!
And bring on the Official 2.0!!!

Yeah- I too have the same problem. Every time that happens I recommend just going into GCOS from the Cobra 2.0 BIOS menu using the Flash Explorer option and running it in forced NTSC- that has worked on every game I tried except one (which I forget right now, but it froze at the title screen only when I forced NTSC on GCOS).
However it is a bit of a hassle to do that every time you want to boot up the game...

OK, I have Cobra 2.0 WIP with GCOS 1.5 and GCOM on the chip. I've tried everything to force NTSC on PAL still not luck.
Also, have anyone been able to place the GCOS 2.0 WIP on the chip. I can copy it over but the cube will not run the DOL file. Looking at the size of DOL compared to the 1.5 version, its like cut in half. Could there be a problem because of this?

It only works for the first version where it was tested on. It doesn't work on any other.
So if you would've read all the other replies where it was asked a ton of times, and answered somewhere at te beginning.
No you aren't doing something wrong, and no you will never get it to work.

is it hard to reprogram with cobra 2.0? I just wanted to know, do you think a 15 year old could do it? How hard would it be to make a simple new function in SSBM or Kirby Air Ride (I mean like adding a mode to SSBM where it randomly selects the characters, lives, costumes, levels, # of characters, etc.) How hard would that be? Thnx!

do you think a 15 year old could do it?As anybody else, a 15 year old can do anything with enough time and motivation! That said, it's probably not as simple as it seems. You could use the game remote feature of Cobra 2.0 to dump memory and edit it. I suggest you to google for a tutorial on making your own action replay cheat codes.

sorry for double posting but is Cobra 2.0 demo safe to use for any type of GCN? Also, when is the official release coming?
Doesn't matter and when it's done ;)
btw the thing you are trying to do is not impossible ... but since there is no realtime memory viewer it's just too much of a hastle to ever achieve that. If you have ever done any kind of memory hex editing you should know that the thing you have in mind is just something that would take you more then a year to ever achieve.
with Cobra 2.0 you now have the possibility to dump a certain memory area, but this isn't real time, and every frame something can change. It's allready a hastle with a realtime editor, let alone with something you have to dump manually every time
So it's time you spend some time learning what you are saying yourself. That's the first and major problem, you have no clue what you are saying :)
And like you said the first post, you cant program a thing. the only thing you can do is alter some memory area's.
And as I said in the beginning of this post, it's not impossible at all. But you would have to hack the whole program so that the move linked to char A will be executed by char B while it still thinks it's character A using it, so that also the right values will be applied etc etc etc ... it's not like you will be able to call a little function and do a little loop with it when you press a certain button combo .. The only way to achieve that is to reverse engineer the game and write a trainer for it or program it anew :p

How can I have any idea on what I'm saying if no one teaches me anything? You can't just expect me to know everything. You don't have to show me everything, just tell me what I need to know and where exactly I'll find it, please.
I don't care how long it takes. I will work on it for a year, I don't care. I would just like to know how to do some reprogramming so will someone please tell me how to do something? Anything, just so I know how to do it. You said its impossible to make Falco's Up+B go as far as Fox's? Well there is a code on arcentral.net called "move swap" where characters moves are switched the the other players character. Can't I just make Falco have Fox's Up+B? Anyway, I really don't care how long it takes. Just please show me how to make a code like changing a characters name or changing the name of a certain mode. Please just show me something simple. :(
Please answer the list below by which is possible and which is not possible I don't care if it's time consuming:
1. Making Falco's Up+B and Over+B go as far as Fox's
2. Changing the names of characters and modes
3. Making G. Bowser, M. Hand, and C. Hand on the character select screen
4. Making Toad in SSBM
5. Taking sonic and tails model from a sonic game and putting them in ssbm programming their moves (again, just tell me if it's possible not time consuming)
6. Making a costume for Mario (press "Y" or "X" on him on character select screen) to be Metal Mario
7. Adding event matches
8. Deleting Characters/moving characters around
9. Creating my own 3D model and putting it in SSBM
10. Making new stages
Please tell me if those are possible don't tell me they are impossible just because they are time consuming. As long as it doesn't take any longer than like 2 or 3 years, I don't care. Only tell me that they are impossible if they really are impossible.
Again, please show me how to make a simple code or tell me what programming language I need to know so I can take some classes in programming whatever I need to.
I am really frustrated cuz by the way you put it, it seems I can barely do anything and I just ordered the premodified gamecube today at about 11:00. Please I desperately need help. :( :( :( :( :(

I dont think any of those are possible
since you only have the image of the game not the source sry

yea but here it looks like the words in the game were changed. So why can't I change the names of the people in SSBM?

See how the words are changed? What can I do with Cobra 2.0 and Viper GC Extreme that involves editing not completing the game? I am really frustrated cuz I basically can't do anything.     :( :(

about the names, as I said before, if you know where they are located in the memory you could overwrite them with a memory patch.
But when it involves more complex words and phrases the games get hacked with a "translation" patch. And that process is even more complex.
Btw, why should I bother explaining if you don't even bother to look up the terms ;)
And about the list as said before forget all of them, unless you know where to put the hack, wich you don't since noone has done it before you, don't even start with it. The names could be done if you know where they are in the memory. That's about it.
Things like that require a huge effort, and the tools just aren't readely available to do such a tidy task on GameCube. It can only be done with a development box, wish has real time memory map viewer/editor/debugger etc. And that's not what this new bios gives you. It only permits you to inject and dump memory code, nothing more nothing less.
And if you want to learn more lookup the terms, and read about hacking/patching/hex editing games/saves. GBA it he easiest example to understand, since VBA has a fully functional debugging system for commercial roms.
Anyway in short, it's simply isn't doable what you hope to ever achieve. It would be easier to just extract the models textures sounds etc from the existing game, and then rewrite the whole game.

Um... how can I get a development box? Don't I have to be a member of Nintendo to get one? If not, WHERE CAN I GET IT???
btw, I can't find anything on google about hacking Action Replay codes or anything like that. Also, you never gave me any terms to look up ;)

All, yes, all of those points are possible if you're wishing to dedicate enough time and energy to that. Even if you don't know how to program right now. It will be very hard, you'll need to learn, a lot, and part of the work is to figure out by yourself what you need to know exactly. You seem motivated so don't demotivate yourself when people say it's impossible, take it as a challenge.
It's easy to edit the text such as the "Do you like Cobra 2.0 features?" thing, with or without Viper Extreme. Get an hex editor, search for the original string in the game, and patch it with the new text. Ofcourse, if you have a Viper Extreme you can try your patches without the need to burn a disc. Get WinHex, it's a good hex editor.
Then, try to make "infinite energy" or "99 coins" kind of cheat code for any game. Here's a place with a FAQ about cheat creating: http://www.gscentral.org/tools.php. You might get some help on their forums. Good luck!

ok so… what exactly can I do with Cobra 2.0 and the Viper GC Extreme? (that involves editing not beating the game)
Game Remote USB 1.0 - MENTALCUBE 2005
usage:
remote.exe s - Start Game
remote.exe d <ADDR> - Read DWORD
remote.exe o <ADDR> <VALUE> - Write DWORD
remote.exe r <ADDR> <LEN> <FILE> - Dump memory to file
remote.exe w <ADDR> <FILE> - Send file to memory
remote.exe 0 - Freeze Game
remote.exe 1 - Unfreeze Game
So you can do three things: freezing the game, dumping the memory and editing the memory. Basically that's the three things needed to create basic cheat codes for games (such as infinite energy).

The forums are down :(
Um... what exactly should I click on for the link that you sent me? Any ideas on where I could learn the programming that I need to know? Do you think I could take classes for that kind of programming at my high school? And for the really difficult ideas like putting Sonic in Tails in Super Smash Bros. Melee, would I just guess on what I needed to do until the outcome is correct or is there a guide on how to do that too? Thanks A LOT for your help avalon. I thought I bought the Viper GC Xtreme for nothing.
:D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D
I thought with the game remote you could edit the game while playing it. Am I correct or not?

umm okay avalon, my premodified gamecube is about to come. Can you guide me through my first code? Pretend you are trying to teach someone in Italy how to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich (Show me with specific details and explanations). What is the VERY first thing I do? Also, is there like a chat thing on these forums to where I could just ask you and you reply quickly? Thanks avalon! :)

i hope they will still release an updated version. otherwise the viper extreme is one big disappointment imo. nothing justifies the extra $s to buy such kind of chip. it does what all others modchips do. nothing more, nothing less!

Hi everyone,
Its been months since ive been on gamecube websites.
Im actually disapointed not to see a final version out of cobra
and a leaked version only.
Perhaps if it wasnt leaked it would be out by now.
I hope to see the new cobra before the european Wii launch.
Take care

I tried uploading a custom theme, but i accidently saved the JPG's as progressive instead of standard (dont know if that matters or not). When i tried loading the theme, the display went crazy.. obviously because it was having problems with the images.
anyway, long story short- i tried reflashing cobra 2.0, and now it hangs at "Please Wait" once you boot up.. i've tried reflashing several times, no luck. Anybody know what the problem is?
