When I first read up about the G6, I was like "OMG THIS IS AWESOME I'M GETTING IT"... Until I noticed it was gigabits.
The best one, 4 gigabits, is only about... 500 megabytes?
Yeah... That isn't that much...
But... Is it still okay? Do you guys have any problems with it?
If so, what other card should I consider buying if I want something like the G6 but I want more memory?
Thanks in advance,
-vmg

as for now, most of the games are less than 512 mbit, there are a few 1G, 2G ones, but only very few(less than 5, I'd say).
so 4 Gbit=8+ games, so how many games do you want to onto it? if it's less than 8, you'll be happy with 4 Gbit. but it's not a good idea to put a lot of music and movie onto it, since 512 mbyte cant even hold 2 flims.
It will hold about 16 DS games at once. The only thing comapareable in it's small size is the EZIV but it doesn't have as good DS game compatability as the G6,M3, or Supercard. The M3 Mini and Supercard Mini don't stick out too much on the DS lite and you can use up to 2gig Mini SD cards on those. I think the G6 Lite's 512mb is really plenty unless you one of those 1337 h&X0r's that thinks they need 50 games on the DS at once when they only play 2 and have never even beat 1,lol.

i have been into 'backups' for many, many years, and one thing i have learned is that the more games you have the less you play them - if you have 50 roms on your cart, how much time will you really give to them? will you ever complete a game or will you just play them for a few minutes and move onto the next?
far better to find a decent few games you like of different genres - shooters, puzzle, rpg etc, and play them until you have completed them, than run from one game to another.
the g6 will hold about 12-15 ds games easily - can you really name more than that number of games that you want to play?
i use these carts to work out what games are worth buying because i am a collector, and i realised that too many games is not necissarily a good thing, so dont get too hung up about the amount of games you can fit on it....
as for movies etc, c'mon, do you really want to watch the latest blockbuster on a DS screen, when you can watch it in full screen on your PC/HDTV etc?

Any idea how many minutes of video can fit on the G6 Lite? I know 5Mb is limited but just how limited is it?

it's 512mb and that's about 3 anime episodes uncompressed?
so maybe an hour of video at good quality assuming there's a program out there for ds that plays xvid
AND seeing as how the DS screen is very small, you will be able to compress ur videos to a very tiny resolution make each video very very small and you would be able to fit many videos.

Don't forget about battery usage:
from gbatemp review of g6 lite:
The cart, due to it's ASIC design, consumes a very minute supply of power. In fact, if you remove your NoPass device or you have flashed your NDS/L, the amount of playtime with the G6 Lite equals that of a commercial cartridge.
whereas i've heard that EZflash 4 will as much as halve your battery performance

I didn't understand anything. What did he mean? How much does the battery last using the G6 Lite?

very close to the standard amount of time, if I read the post correctly.

In his review for the G6 lite (http://gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=34239), gbatemp.net staffer Qrayzie said:
The cart, due to it's ASIC (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asic) design, consumes a very minute supply of power. In fact, if you remove your NoPass device or you have flashed your NDS/L, the amount of playtime with the G6 Lite equals that of a commercial cartridge. There will be no worries over cutting your play sessions short due to your battery running out early! This is qute an achievement, as all other NDS flash kits that I've experienced cut the battery life down by <some> amount. I would like to have more time to test the battery life, but as of the writing of this review, I have absolutely no complaints or anything negative to report.
Here (http://gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=33575&hl=battery) is a review where the reviewer says that the only advantage of the EZ4 Lite is "due to the option of adding your own TF/micro SD card." Regarding the micro card he says:
-I could not remove my TF card without filing down the shell at the TF slot (after removing the PCB of the EZ4Lite of course). It is either simply sitting too high, or a plastic burr/crease from the manufacturing process may have been the culprit. The cart looks fine cosmetically after "modding" it.
-IMHO, the cart does not fit as well as the EZ4 regular. It takes a little more force, and makes a louder "click/snap" noise.
-The EZ4Lite does not seem as solid as the EZ4 regular. I do understand the limitations here, as the cart needed to have interchangeable shells. I don't think one screw is enough, but I'm sure more screws would have made it harder to take up so little space.
Back on topic, the original post says, "is 4 gigabits really enough?" ... it seems every flashcard solution that employs external media suffers from a data throughput (bandwidth) issue of some kind. None of these are showstoppers from what I can tell but it's not a 'perfect' game experience. From this thread (http://gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=33944):
There are quite a few games with stuttering when they load into a level. You get stuttery music and micro pauses. A quick example is Metroid pinball and Hunters. There is a noticable difference when compared to Supercard, and yes the loading takes longer too between screens.
and
I've had major slow downs in Tony Hawk's American Sk8land. It's just on certain areas. Sometimes slows down, sometimes it doesn't. And in Animal Crossing as well. It's generally slow all over. I'm using the normal sandisk 1GB. I don't know if it actually slows down as well on the actual game, or any other flash carts.
someone says:
i havent noticed slow down..im using an ultra II 1GB sandisk TF...if there is slwodown its nothing to whine about like some ppl are...omg an extra millisecond of my time wasted when gameplay is fine...
So it seems at least then that the slowdowns are media-dependant.

Its enough for me. Even if the games are att maximum size you'll be able to fit 4 games. Im not gonna use the multimediaplayer or the PDA so 512Mb should be plenty for me.

It seems that there is enough space for plenty of ds games. However, is there any talk of ds games being larger than 4gbits? I think I heard that the new final fantasy remake will be pretty large? Anyone know? thnx

Final fantasy 3 I'm sure won't be bigger than 2G. If it's 4G, I'll eat a horse. Honestly.

The biggest ROM right now for the DS is 512Mb (.5G). I would be totally suprised if the new FF3 is 4G! That's just insane, right?
**Fixed for the post below....mistype...i know my gigabits and gigabytes :p

You know you mean 512 megaBIT (mb or Mb), right? If the biggest game were 512 MB (megabyte), it wouldn't fit on the G6.
And the biggest game afaik is is not 512 megabits, but 1 gigabit --128 megaBYTES (MB), not 512 mb. I already have a game installed that is that size.
But I have heard there are a couple of 256MB games out there (2 megabits aka "2G").
Also its usually normal practice to use GB for gigabyte and gb or Gb for gigabit; much like when dealing with internet download rates, so people don't get confused.

So you really think ff3 is going to be 4G? If that's the case, then the G6 lite is a bad investment, no?

I believe the max a nds flash cart(original) can hold is 1048mb(mebibytes)(128Megabytes)
so the 4000mb should be able to hold any future game too

Yup. Nintendo themselves has stated that 1Gbit is maximum size for a game.

only if gbalpha releases a decent g6l reader which makes writing to g6l as fast as sd cardreader, it would be perfect.

I have the G6 Lite, and I am wondering what the hell am I going to do with all this space. As of right now, I have New Super Mario Brothers, Super Mario DS, Castlevania, Super Mario Kart, and Metroid Prime hunters on it. I still have well over half the cart still left open. But if you think about it, I wouldn't even have to reflash my card for a good month or 2 based off of how long it takes to beat each game.
So, my opinion, don't even worry about it. There is more then enough space, even if you wanted to put GBA games and other games on there. As for movies, I wouldn't recommend watching any movie on the DS. But that could be just me since I own a DS and PSP. I rather watch movies on the PSP.

Yeh In The Review At GBatemp, Buddy Had Around 13 GBA Games And 9 DS Games + All The Homebrew Stuff Too. It Was Pretty Good, Still Waiting For The G6 Here, But I Plugged My SD Card In To A Reader, And Played Around Wrting To The SD *Instead Of G6* And I Got Lots Of Games, And Homebrew As Well As DS Games On There...So I Think 512 Is Very Good, Sure Ya Can Put It To 1GB, But Ya Don't Need It. Great Size G6 Team.

btw, I let my g6 u-disk manager writes to a subst drive on my PC, then copy the stuff over, this saves some time if you want to change game. again, it's still a little annoying for the slow reading/writing speed. my sc mini can copy game really really fast with my minisd card reader (thumb drive size) and I have 1G space on the card. now I have nintendog, animal crossing, only 7 ds games and 3 gba games but my g6l has only 100M left. there are 1Gbit game out there, even that meteo game is 512M.

As others have said, when the DS was first announced Nintendo said the game cartridges could be made in up to 1 gigabit (128 mb) of memory. I doubt they will ever exceed that capacity and most games will be smaller than that. You can count on FF3 being 1gigabit or smaller, I wouldn't be surprised if it was 512 megabit.

Its all up to you but here is some good info to know:
The G6 Lite comes in 3 flavors:
1G = 1 Gb = 1024 bit = 128MB = .125GB
2G= 2 Gb = 2048 bit= 256MB = .25GB
4G= 4 Gb = 4096 bit = 512MB = .5GB
Ok, now for the rom info:
The New Super Mario Bros game is 256Mbit or 32MB. Most games range from 246Mbit to 512Mbit but now there is a 1024Mbit which is being used by newer games.
DS ROM Sizes:
32Mbit = 4MB
64Mbit = 8MB
128Mbit = 16MB
256Mbit = 32MB
512Mbit = 64MB
1024Mbit = 128MB
So if you had a G6 Lite 4G you could put an average of 16 DS games at 256Mbit/32MB per game. But if you like the bigger games, which are most of the big releases and best games, you could put only 8 DS games on at 512Mbit/64MB per game. This doesn't include any music, GBA games, videos, etc...
Now if you had a Supercard Mini-SD and a 1GB card you could put 32 DS games at 256Mbit/32MB per game. Or if you're like me you can get a 2GB Mini-SD and put 64 DS games at 256Mbit/32MB per game. Or if you like the bigger games and like I said the "Good Games" its 16 DS games on the 1GB or 32 on the 2GB.
DS games that wil fit based on 64MB per game:
G6 Lite 4G = 8 DS games
SuperCard 1GB mini-SD = 16 DS games
SuperCard 2GB mini-SD = 32 DS games
Games that will fit on average:
G6 Lite 4G = 8-19 DS games
SuperCard 1GB mini-SD = 16-37 DS games
SuperCard 2GB mini-SD = 32-56 DS games
Right now on my ATP ProMax 150X 2GB Mini-SD card I have 41 DS games, 41 DS saves, 8 GBA games, 8 GBA saves, REIN, NDSMail, Moonshell, and few pictures and I'm still ONLY using 1.69GB! I have a little over 256MB for more games and apps which is only the size of the G6 Lite 2G!
You can see where we are going with this: Save your money and pick up a Supercard Mini-SD or wait for the next round of devices in the next month or two.
