I was wondering. With the gamecube modchip, you said you can write .DOLs right? Well, with games like Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time would it be possible to play as Ganondorf instead of link and program his moves? How about Super Smash Bros Melee? Can I make sonic and tails and knuckles playable in SSBM programming their moves and placing an icon on the character selection screen if they do something like beat 20 people in cruel melee?

Using Ganondorf in OoT is possible since the models do exist in the game, but to my knowledge no one has made a hack to do so, Link is just too damn good.
Putting anyone into a game on the other hand is very difficult, even modding an existing character is hard put possible, just look at all the hacks on the GB.
I have never heard of a hack on a cube game, or even a trainer. I think you might be out of luck here, while it is in theory possible it could be extremely hard to do.

I also don't know what you mean by 'write a DOL', a cube game is much more than a DOL file.

so your saying that I can add event matches in SSBM and make Toad Playable? Can someone please make me a guide on how to do this? I'll buy the Viper GC Extreme with USB adapter and tell everyone I know about this site if you make me a guide. :) Included in the guide of how to make Toad playable, can you show me how to make event matches and make Link in TP graphics take the place of link in the char. select screen? (or show me how to make characters in other games in SSBM) Otherwise I see no point in buying it if I don't know how to use it. Thnx :o

edit* A picture's worth a thousand words. I would like pictures in the guide to help me even more than just words. Thanks. :)

actually, if anyone is willing to just make the mod to play as toad, sonic, tails, etc. I'll be willing to pay some money for that mod - $100 max. Otherwise, a guide will do ;)

this would take model replacing. each model has it's own physics also so this would take a long time to do.

I wouldn't bet on anyone wasting their time to do this.

i dont mean to be annoying but... can I change the names of things in games like change Zelda in SSBM to Zelda/Sheik or change Young Link to Link? Just wondering... Also, is the mod chip legal in the U.S. cuz I heard it wasn't?

ASPD0796, I dont think you understand quite how difficult the things you want to do are. Listen to emu_kidd, he knows his stuff.

Its not like replacing a simple sprite sequence or editing a few bits in sram. Like emu kidd says, each character has their own physics bound to them, even if you managed to get the model of ganon running in place of link you would also need to have the models physical attributes or hit points, collision detection etc wouldnt work.

You dont really need a guide on how to do this; you need a fat ass book on C, C++ and assembly on power pc just to give you a good grasp on coding and how this kind of software is built up, then go reading on how a gamecube specifically function, then start hacking the game lol.

Sorry made an arse of that lol. This is supposed to be an edit of the above post.

EDIT: Concerning mod chip legality. It depends on the chip. Most of the chips are legal and it just void's your warranty opening the case. If the chip uses code that is owned by another company then unless the creator has licensed that code for use in their modchip then it would be illegal. There is more to it than that but thats the basics. The main illegal thing is the use of copied games that you do not own the original of.
