I have a V7 PS2 with DMS4Pro installed running Toxic OS.

Dvd Originals and Backups...are failing to read all the time now. I remember now...I had my PS2 positioned horizontally and I started having occasional read errors. I read to position it vertically, and it worked a bit better. Now all DVD originals and backups are failing to run or install. CD's still work just fine. I'm wondering what course of action would be best.

I did some more adjusting. Lowering my Dvd Pot from 1200 to 1000 seemed to help a little, but then further testing revealed total crap reading.I adjusted azimuth. 3-6 clicks helped somewhat, and 9 clicks destroyed all reading. I'm at 3 clicks now with 0 pot adjustment, and intro videos are still chopping up.

I'm using Taiyo Yuden quality backups. I wish I would have always used Taiyo Yuden, I think those Memorex/TDK fried my laser back in the day.

What would you do? I was thinking about trying to get a PS2 Slim, because their replacement lasers are new and cheap. However, then I would lose my valuable HDD and HDD backups. I would then have to spend 25-30 bucks on HDDConnect, and a hdd dangling out of my console. I didn't want to buy a new PS2 slim, but a broken read error one, and simply replace the laser. Then I would have to deal with Romeo and a New DMS4Pro install. Worth it? That's if I could repair a broken one. I've brought my V7 PS2 back from the Absolute Dead on numerous occasions. Fuses/Lasers aren't that tough. Thoughts? HDD Connect is like installing another modchip into the PS2, the install is pretty in depth.Broken PSTwo(20-40$)+HDDConnect (25$)+(20 dollars in fixing the broken ps2). 85$.......hmmm.

That was all to try get around buying a new laser for my V7. I've found them for about 53-60$ (Rich's PSX), but I have no idea if they are new or not? Should I get another Open Face, or try a closed face 400C and attempt an EEPROM change with LaserChange? I read a post on Rich's PSX Forums, and they said that "NEW" PS2 laser for older PS2 consoles no longer exist. Is this true? 60$ for a supposedly "NEW" laser (if it's new), when a new PSTwo costs 120$? AHH~! I just don't like the idea of paying 50-70$ for a "Probable Refurb" laser, when a new system costs little more.

These look absolutely new.....Hmm.

What would you do? I'm guessing I'm going to have to do something, as my laser is gone I would think. It's about 2-3 years old now.

Hhmm,is really hard to buy a new ps2 laser for your console thats right, maybe when you have luck you can find a new one.
Of course a new modell maybe better, but you can have the problem that you become a v14 console in this machine you canīt install an harddrive (usb hdd is for not harddrive, its an big usb stick on the ps2 for me;) ).
When you buy this: http://cgi.ebay.com/PS2-LASER-REPLACEMENT-KHS-400C-PLAYSTATION-2-NEW_W0QQitemZ104752215223QQihZ020QQcategoryZ62054Q QrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem , you must only flash the eeprom with LensChange when your old Laser is an other than that you want to buy.
BUt 52$ arenīt really cheap!;)

I really appreciate the response. I ended up getting that laser, because the seller stated it as 90% new. 10% loss because the actual casing was reused, but all diodes and coils are brand new, which is what I am looking for. A used laser chasis is fine by me. I still might try find a cheap PS2 Slim to screw around with, an
easy broken fix.
