View Full Version : Nintendo Wii Sports Airplane Video Demo
A video from E3 has been uploaded to the web which shows Wii Sports Airplane in action. The video is about three minutes long and you will see how the Wiimote is used from about two minutes in, information we managed to pick up is that if you jab the Wiimote forward the plane will speed up and if you tilt it up vertically for a while, the plane is capable of doing a complete loop.

Remember the Wii sports series aren't supposed to push the graphical limits of the Wii but offer a broad spectrum of basic sports titles which emphasize the element of fun with the Wiimote.

Looks pretty good, except for the fact you can nosedive into the ground and then just keep going, but it definatly makes me look forward to a pilotwings game.

I read the same comment about the Sony's PS3 demo s on E3, but people is not considering the physics and dynamics of the game here.
If you play any flight simulator, turning the flaps always have a delay on the force and reaction of the plain turning. Those are no flaws of the controller ( PC, Xbox, Wii or PS3 etc), but characteristics of the game itself.
Like on the new and old soccer games, on the old ones, a player as you enable the movement, starts to run, on the new generation soccer games, the body reaction is more detailed, and so the time to reach a hig speed on a starting run.

if it were a realistic flight sim, when I played pilotwings b4 and I pressed down on the stick, the plane went up instant. I know what ur saying about flaps and reaction to the stick and what not, and thought about it b4 making my post. but It seems an actual delay is present. I also commented that sonys had delay, but sonys delay was far worse. I hope very much so that I am wrong, but I watched several times and when he moves it up its quite a noticible delay, and not just a slow transition of the flaps. he moves the controller, than the plane moves. Believe me when I say I want to be wrong, but thats all I could notice when I wathched th vid. besides that I know nintendo games arent going for graphics, but that was almost n64 looking to me.

On the Sony's video the delay was a "user" problem :) , but I saw the flaps turning up and down accordingly. Here I see no difference, and even is not a realistic flying simulator, those details are present. This game goes mor for a "educative" perspective, like mario 64 was for analog games. ( about controls, this game looks more like a Bonus, inside a pack, not like a real game)

I dont know what educative perspective u see, the control mechanism being used if u look is that the player holds the controller like a toy airplane, u jab it forward to gain speed, and point in which way u want to go, look at the plane bounce on the ground. I know its not a game and only a controld demo, and I hope ur right and that the delay is meant to be there. As for sonys video warhawks are supposed to be pretty agile I think, so I would assume a jet fighter from the distant future would be a little more responsive.
Ive speant hours on MS flight sim (many hours waisted in heinsight) to the point where I felt like I could fly a real plane if needed (though I couldnt).
I know flying is really crazy to control in reality. I really dont think these games have any different ingame flying mechanics than older console games though and only the users control mechanism has changed. were gonna have to agree to disagree on this one I think.

I am also fun of MSFS ..and of one of the best ( if not the best ) CFS to PC "Pacific Fighters " ;)
Well, "educative perspective" I am talking about "calibrating your hand & brain" to play with the 3D motion controller, to understand the moves, etc. More like Mario64 was to the analog controller on N64, when you start to understand the feeling of go slowly or faster, turn the camera or teh character, lock the camera on 3D turning around, look this or that, etc.
This game is horrible anyway! ( just like pilotwings on Snes and N64 ) But as I said, must be kind of a bonus inside a pack of "party games".

The "delay" seems to just be the fact his wrist turns a lot faster then a plane can or will turn. If you look, it starts moving with the guy, but the guy can snap his wrist in a 45 degree turn in 1/8 of a second, to make it handle more realistically, the plane seems to be turning the same amount he is, just it's not gonna spin 45 or more degrees just because the controller did it. If it was a FPS and I saw it taking that long to turn, then it'd be a problem.
