I have a 1.5 PSP, which cannot read UMDs. I have a best buy warranty, but the only PSPs i can exchange for are 2.01 (not downgradable yet). I was thinking if i took out the flash card out of my 1.5 PSP (if that is possible) and exchange it by saying it dosent turn on, and get the 2.01, could i replace the 2.01 flash card with my 1.5 PSPs flash card?

if this is implausible then please tell me, i am desperate to get a fully functioning 1.5 PSP, and this seems like the only way to go about doing it...

If that would work its definately clever.

They may check to see if you broke the waranty seal. Also, im not too sure that popping that chip off is as easy as it may sound

im pretty sure that they wont check the warranty, if they do ill just say it got broken when i took the battery out... but if..... i could take out the chip somehow, then would it be possible to replace it? has anyone tried it/known some1 who has tried it?

Go ahead and switch out hte entire motherboard of the PSP, the warrenty seal is not on the outside, and it is not a xbox or other "modable" system, so I doubt they will pull the entire thing apart to get inside to check the warrenty seal ;)! I've had to return a PSP before, and my friend, and they never even opened the box, they just exchange it ;)!

Is that a smart idea if somebody paid with a credit card? :)

LOL! You make a valid point, also with the warrenty they probably have the name recorded...I'd say buy another one, then swap motherboards, then take the one you have back and get a "new one" and sell it...That's all I can think of...

Just get it repaired via one of the online websites that do Psp (UMD) repairs.

Could you link some?

I have never used any of these services but some time ago on Pspupdates, I noted down the following links for online repairs of Psp's.

http://techrestore.com/xcart/home.php?cat=321
http://www.psptree.co.uk/

Also, I think I saw an advert banner towards the top of this website about repairing Psp's.

i would get it repaired by one of those sites, but they cost more than 80 USD... the warranty cost me 40 bucks... what i was thinking was to take out the motherboard, close the PSP up, return it, get the 2.01 PSP swap the mother boards and thats the end of it, there could be many downsides to that, like if they catch me, but i like PSPWAD's idea of buying one, then returning it, but idunno of anywhere where they take opened PSPs :D (maybe fry's)

and also, does taking out the motherboard require taking out the screen?

From what I remember reading on this forum somewhere once you change the mobo that originally came with the UMD drive than the drive doesnt work anymore.

im studying in electronic, the flash is probably surface mounted to the board, which require special toals to remove since those things are pretty easy to burn up with regular soldering iron. The only thing i could tell you is to see a school with proper electronic tools and ask someone to do it since its pretty hard.

PS: Sorry for my english.

Um, I was saying like buy one from wal-mart, swap out hte board, then take the one you got from the original store (let's say best buy) back to best buy, exchange it for a new one, then sell the new one from best buy.

I always heard that flashing a chip with a copy of a flash from another motherboard didn't work...from what I understand they sell motherboards on ebay and people order them to get their 1.5s working again...this was back when 1.5s were easy to find, so I assume it would work, altho I havne't tried it so I would not know.

b4 u go & try these swapping ideas i suggest something w/ no legal risks. 1st upgrade to 2.0 then downgrade to 1.5 and check if that fixed it. if not then its still no big deal, just use isos instead of umds.
