View Full Version : Clarification: Datel Max Media Player 4GB for DS Includes Max Media Launcher
Yesterday we reviewed datel's passme device for the DS called the Max Media Launcher. There was a bit of confusion mounting as to the actual difference between Max Media Player 4GB for DS and the< a href="http://www.maxconsole.net/?mode=news&newsid=7100" target="_blank">Max Media Launcher. Well think of it as this, the Datel 4GB Max Media Player is a Flash Cart sporting 4GB of storage space, so no need for extra SD/CF cards. The Max Media Launcher is the passme device required in order to work which is sold standalone also, but in the case of the Max Media Player it is bundled in and renamed as 'Max Media Player' on the cart. Here are some pictures from our upcoming review of Datel's Max Media Player for the DS...

As you can see from the picture on the right, the small cart branded 'Max Media Player' is in essence the 'Max Media Launcher', the other black device ontop of the DS is the actual 4GB hard drive 'flash cart'.

Review coming soon...we're not saying when, but soon :)!

But from a DS Lite owner perspective i'd rather buy a combo ofr MML + G6 4Gb or so... For DS the thing would fit in snugly and come out at the back.. But for DS Lite its different... GBA carts do stick out a good 1.2cm and that thing is kinda bulky if its sticking out too much at the front... Nice attempt Datel but i think the micro-hdd is only a must for DS owners and not Lite.. beside it's a microdrive just like PSP.. This is by no means energy efficient.. if ur Ds lasted 7 hours make it 4-5hous now.

the MML Max Media Launcher is a pass-thru devbice just like the passme2/passkey2 but its much smaller and fits right in the ds game slot.
And no the 4GB MiniDrive doesn't support roms by first party software.. However there is a hack that's been released a while ago and was announce on this website,,, I'm not sure whats its called again but you might want to scroll down the articles and read... IMHO the best path to load your roms tho is to get MML + M3 Perfect MiniSd Adapter or a G6 cart... those are made for homebrew.. meaning you can watch movies, listen to music, read an ebook, run emulators.. etc etc.. And of course load your favorite NDS / GBA games natively with the adapter.. And if you're an evne more advanced user consider getting mml then dl flashme and hack the firmware so that you wont be needing the MML to load g6/m3 what so ever... there is a risk into flashing the DS lite if you touch other metal objects inside outside the SL1 connector which needs to be bridged but i found that using a small straw in the hole adjusted perfect to the size of the sl1 and avoided contact with everything else but it... takes about 1 minute to flash ur ds if don correctly.

I got an M3 Perfect MiniSD adapter + MML... though i flashed now so i dont need the max media launcher anymore... Overall M3 has the best compatibility with NDs games and its updated atleast 3-4 times a month lately.. Also compared to the competition M3 plays GBA full speed and also has a built-in custom moon shell for video, m3 etc files... There's also SuperCard but it runs gba slow and doesnt have as many features as the m3... also m3 can dump roms unlike everything else ;)... and a whole lot more... if u wanna find the m3 homepage for more info simply lookup " m3adapter homepage "
