Hey guys i'm having some trouble with this. It's all installed correctly and it opens in my 360, but when I go to refresh the rom list, the window to run process.vbs pops up.

When I select the emulator in media center on my PC nothing happens. If I run AutoNav.htm directly, it'll open and I can run process.vbs, but nothing happens after that. The roms never show up. Any ideas?

*edit*

Ok, so the pdf is terribly written and hard to understand, and it only tells you how to get it going on your comp. not your 360. How do I play this on my xbox?

Im new to this whole 360 homebrew, but not new to homebrew, but I have a few questions.

1) Where or how do I get Media Center?

2) How do I connect The 360 to my computer?

Media center is a specific kind of windows that you have to buy at a store and in this context the xbox 360 is connected to the pc with the ethernet port(rj45 cable network cable whatever) via a router or hub.

ive been waiting for help over 7 months.

Get MCE 2005 and see if it works with that as that what its designed for, or try using the final version of Vista and not a beta build.

Buy Windows Vista Home Premium or Ultimate Edition and it will come with it.
As for connecting the 360 to your pc get a crossover cable, plug one end in your pc’s network card and the other in the 360’s... then enable ICS (internet connection sharing) or give your pc’s network card an ip address.
If you have a router just a standard Ethernet cable will get the job done.
Then all you need to do is tell the 360 to look for a pc to connect to, then once its connected share some music using windows media player 11 or windows media connect and enjoy!

works on mine. I have xp pro media center edition 2005.The only problem is that the files provided here are out of date now, the version of NEScafe used to emulate the roms wont work anymore.

probably easily sorted, will look into it.

Did you have any luck? Can you send instructions? Vista doesn't have the same folders as XP....

Download the install file at the first post.

Extract to this (you must have hidden windows disabled so you can see the appdata folder)

C: Users/Owner(your account)/AppData/Roaming/Media Center Programs

It shows up on my PC but not Xbox.

That is as far as I have gotten. When I use it on my computer, it says that the path is not found for the .vbs file. Help.

EDIT:

OKAY! For those whom are still having trouble. This is partial help as it says I have to update. In order for your roms to work, you must edit the .vbs file in notepad to the EXACT path to the media center programs folder.

For Example:

If I had Windows XP MCE it would have been this:

C:\Documents and Settings\Users\All Users\...... yea yea I don't know the rest.

Since I have Vista the folders are different.

So here is mine:

C:\Users\Orlando\AppData\Roaming\Media Center Programs

This should be the same for all Vista users except Basic, Starter, and Pro. I have Ultimate.

Look in notepad and change all the things that have file paths on them to the correct file path. It worked for my PC but now I have update it says, and I still can't see it in my Xbox, but I was told to just wait a while. I'm going to make a tutorial soon if you guys need one.

I've tried this just for fun, but got same problem(vista+edited .vbs):

-on pc shows up, and emulator starts but no roms where shown
(on refresh rom list -> says "windows hosts script not activated ...." )

-on xbox 360 no nes emulator found at online programs or more programes

please JerzeyLegend do a noobproof tutorial for vista if you have time!!

thx

You did everything right. I can't get it to show up in Xbox either. It's looking like only for Windows Media Center Edition.

I think something in Windows is blocking the connection.

Let me get back on the project and I'll hit this thread up if I make a break through.

New to modding, and homebrew.
saw this nes on 360 so thought i'd try it out.
been at it for 2 days now, and still no luck.
running vista... heard more ppl having problems with that.
from what i can fiqure out, is that the map structure from xp is different to vista.
so you need to put the file in:
C:\Users\*username*\AppData\Roaming\Media Center Programs

that's about as far as i got.
i can open and find it in Media center under "online media" and then programes on my computer. then i get an error:
"load: class NESCafeApplet not found.
java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: NESCafeApplet"

on my xbox i cant find it at all

going to check the forum more regurarly.
hope someone can get it to run from vista>mediacenter>xbox360

would be nice
good luck
and if anyone does find out, pls make a very nice guide:P
lots of ppl dont know that much about this kind of stuff but would like to use it :D

Just a question... I have given up on this project because I no longer own a box. But has anyone tried making all the options, folder, subfolders, and such related to this program simply run in Compatibility Mode for Windows XP SP2? Alot of things that work XP only seems to work on Vista when Vista makes it run like XP.

I was trying to do a Pandora battery a couple days ago. Wouldn't do the whole thing in Vista, so I right clicked the icon for the GUI and set it Windows XP mode, and it worked perfectly.

Here is a process.vbs fix for those getting path not found.

You need to change three lines to reflect your setup. These four here.

Dim RomsFolder: Set RomsFolder = fso.GetFolder("C:\Users\INSERT YOUR USERNAME HERE\AppData\Roaming\Media Center Programs\nes\roms")

Dim objHeaderFile: Set objHeaderFile = fso.OpenTextFile("C:\Users\INSERT YOUR USERNAME HERE\Family\AppData\Roaming\Media Center Programs\nes\header", ForReading)

Dim objFooterFile: Set objFooterFile = fso.OpenTextFile("C:\Users\INSERT YOUR USERNAME HERE\AppData\Roaming\Media Center Programs\nes\footer", ForReading)

Dim objFile: Set objFile = fso.OpenTextFile("C:\Users\INSERT YOUR USERNAME HERE\AppData\Roaming\Media Center Programs\nes\AutoNav.htm", ForWriting)

Hi Everyone,
I just wanted to let you know I've significantly updated this entire package today.
My new version will include:

- Auto Extract/Install for easy installation - Finished 07/01/2009
- Windows XP MCE/Vista support - Finished 07/01/2009
- New Xbox 360 themed GUI - Finished 07/01/2009
- Updated NesCafe - Finished 07/01/2009
- New Rom Loader - To be completed.

I'm still working on the Rom Loader,
However, I have tested all other components on XP,Vista as well as Xbox 360 while on both operating systems.

I'm also developing a similar SNES application which works entirely but I want to update the GUI and drop some dead lines before recompiling.
I will be releasing both of these shortly.
Please stay tuned if you cannot get the current version to work.

Thanks for your patience.

Currently the SNES emulator is coming along very at a quick speed.
However, It currently involves a severely complex installation and their are emulation errors to be worked out.
We are having an issue with larger games that we would like to work out.

We are trying to master MCE but it is taking some time as it was expected when we started this SNES project almost two weeks ago.
We expect to be finished in roughly a month.

Thank you.

sweet, been lookin forward to an update to this. :D

just a couple questions..

is the Snes version going to support all 4 buttons (A, B, X, Y) and the 2 Shoulder buttons? Or can the button commands not be overwritten? (B exits out of the current page of MediaCenter, for example)

i know this is probably unknown/use at your own risk.. but any idea if this will get you banned from xbox live?

This isn't bad. But....

I think NES emulation on the 360 would be better suited to a standalone game on the 360 that handles the emulation. Perhaps if something like zNes could be ported. That would be the best solution I think.

it's not working because the paths are different..
XP: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Accessories\Media Center\Media Center Programs
Vista: C:\Users\Mcx1\AppData\Roaming\Media Center Programs

even if you manually change them the nescafe applet doesn't work because it's "an old version", and if you manually change it to the latest it doesn't load at all..

lol.

How to make the old package work while we work on the new one.
First of all, As stated through this forum directories NEED to change, especially if your a Vista user. The directories are posted before.

Second. David de niese has updated the web version of his NesCafe project.
Download the most recent version and copy it into the old 'nes360' file, allow overwrite.

Thirdly and most importantly the 'Loader' does not work anymore.
Until our install package is rereleased you'll have to manually change the game on your PC in NesCafe's settings.

Sorry about the long wait time but we had some set backs due to vista.
Everything will be ready to go as soon as I contact Byron Grobe again.
Love,

it will only work with XP Media Center.

*edit*
ive got it working. but, when i try to load a rom. it tells me its the wrong one.

*edit2*
now its telling me that the emulator is out of date.

downlod the latest version of the applet from nescafeweb.com and paste it into the nes folder. replace everything. finally there is a file called nescafe.settings open it in note pad, and copy the contoller settings into nescsafe-settings.txt (it should already exist) in the relevant controller section
