View Full Version : Fight Night Round 3 Xbox 360 Review Round-Up
Ladies and gentlemen... Fight Night Round 3 reviews have knocked their way around the web, just how does it fair ? Pretty damn good, just a few flaws in the single player mode AI set it back from being a truly great title.
Gamespot Review Quote
The Good: Same great control mechanics found in previous Fight Night games; lots of great boxing legends to test your skills against; great player models on ps2 and xbox, and amazing models on the xbox 360; gruesome sound effects make you cringe when you hear a guy get smacked in the face.
The Bad: Career mode lacks structure and feels like a series of loosely related matches rather than an ongoing fight to become a champion; single-player fights get repetitive because it feels like you keep facing the same opponent over and over again.

IGN FightNight Round 3 Review quote
Fight Night Round 3 is a great sports title, but negligible improvements in the career mode and idiotic computer AI hold the game back from true greatness. Removing the HUD, in combination with visible emotion, creates a more instinctive boxing experience, especially when moving in for the knockout. There are some strange choices in the presentation department, like the lack of rankings, but the outstanding graphics and sound effects create a great in-game experience, which is what counts. The impact punches are a great addition, and the tension from a well-placed stun punch creates a true white-knuckle experience. Creating a fighter and taking the title belt provides decent entertainment value, but the real fun lies in beating your friends’ faces in. Try (or not, as the case may be) as the computer might, it’s your friends who will be your true rivals.

Both websites give this title an average rating of 8.5, still a high score and the replays will leave you in awe due to the realism. I never play games like these for one player mode, games like these are best to slug out with your friends and online.

So what does the Xbox 360 version offer over the PS2 version? better graphics? not much of an improvement, considering the scores were about neck and neck.
If they want me to uprade from my PS2 they will have to do better than that and when I look over the 360 titles, there isn't anything special "must have" about them. PS2 always had "worse" graphics than even the Xbox, but the games were just as good.
Looks like we have to wait for the Revolution to get a real improvement.

Get a 360 and then you'll see there is NO comparison in visuals or game play with PS2 or XBOX. The whole 360 gaming experience is so much more immersive than anything else, I’ve been gaming for 20 years now and for me the 360 is the best all round gaming experience I’ve had, add to that the marketplace and free demo/trailers the old PS2 and XBOX look very dated.

Your bad, since the best gaming system, more fun then any other were the NES and SNES.Better then a 360 or PS3.
Also for some reason I don't find the 360 amazing or even great, I find it ok, maybe it will just be me or everyone with a decent high or mid end PC, so I actually enjoy more the PS2 and my Computer then Xbox or 360.

good god what are you smoking... have you even SEEN the 360 version of FN3? geezus - the entire gameplay/graphics is a whole world ahead of anything the ps2/xbox/psp could ever offer...

Well the scores are not proportionate to each other. They are not saying an 8 on 360 is the same as an 8 on ps2. That would be like saying an 8 on Atari 2600 is the same as an 8 on PS2. The scoring will be based on what the developers were able to do with the 360. What I mean to say is, realize the score is not the score of the 360's ability. It is the score of the ability of EA to develop a game that would effectively take advantage of the 360's architecture in an effort to bring forth an outstanding gaming experience.
As far as arguing what system is the best or has the most fun game library, it would be unfair to compare a brand new system, like 360 with a very limited game library, to something like the library of the NES. The NES had well over 1000 games made for it. That’s a lot of chances to have a hit title. But of all those chances how many can you actually remember as being an awesome game. I’m certain you will only remember a small percentage of these games. Xbox 360 will run its course and, as it all ready is, remain a success. Maybe it will or will not be financial success for Microsoft but a success, none the less, in our hearts for sure.
The last point I would like to make is about all this competition between us gamers. My system is better than yours? What is that all about? We are the consumers here. None of us own MS, Sony, or Nintendo. We should ask ourselves the point of playing video games. Is it to have the ability to compete with others as to whose system is the best?
Maybe the actual reason we all do this is for entertainment and competition (within the game vs. player 2.) So who cares what system is the best. Buy what you can afford and what you have confidence in. It is a fruitless argument and a waste of time and energy to argue whose game system is best. Unless you own stock in one of the giants 3, just have fun and play your game.
One last point, this thread is supposed to be about Fight Night: Round 3, not what system was the best. So let us all get back on topic.

Only got the demo on 360 so far...but I gotta say, its the best boxing experience I have ever had on a console, not just the grfx...but the way the fighters react as the rounds go on, and the way the commentary is spot on to what is happening in the fight.
If the demo is anything to go by...then the full game is a must.

normally i am not one to admire a game just because of the graphics, because its the gameplay that is the true winner (an example of this is the original GTA) but when i first saw the graphics of this game on highly detailed pictures i was completely blown away
:eek: <=== ME!
the graphics were simply gorgeous, i mean jaw droppingly gorgeous, my mates didn't actually believe me when i said they were proper ingame shots - the level of detail in everything, the blood, sweat, tears, the wrinkles on the characters was just unseen in any game before it - it was those images that made me push towards getting a 360 and a week later, i did - do i regret it?? not at all!
the Fight Night series has always been great to me and i especially enjoyed the Xbox version of Fight Night 2 so i will definately be getting this game. Gamespot's review is fair and is probably right, it points out the negatives of the single player mode but i think that won't get old very soon, i mean i always used to come back to FNR2 on the xbox just to see the slo-mo knockdowns, this will be 100 times more exciting to come back too ... i cannot wait :D
i cannot wait till this comes out, it's a shame that UK release dates suck so much, we gotta wait another 2 week till it's released :(
and Souzar, you stick with your PS2 for the timebeing, you'll be singing a different tune when you get a 360 ... i know this, because i was doing the same. I gave up (well, sold) my xbox + 300 games just to get my 360 and i don't regret it one bit.

I don’t know about boring, but I think fight night round 2 was much more fun. I have to say the graphics were outstanding and a real treat, but the game seems to have lost some of its fun factor. The guys punch as slow as malaises on a cold winter day. Also they seem to have made it so you can’t use hey makers nearly as often. You are left wide open for anywhere from 2-5 seconds if you miss or it’s parried. And the fight store menus are atrocious. In part two the menus were divided up. Like low top shoes were one category and then you would have mid top and high top in two separate other cats. In this one they are all one after another, so if you want to get to the best stuff you have to cycle through all the stuff you know you don’t want or can’t get (locked items).
With 360 it is understandable that you couldn’t carry over a boxer or your record, but with the regular Xbox it would have been nice to be able to carry over you past stats or at least the way your fighter looked.

Gears of war, another game i couldnt wait to get my hands on that got a 4 month delay :( The 360 is starting to show its true potential and if you haven't seen fight night round 3 then your missing out. I picked it up on release but haven't had time to really play it but this looks like a game that will make me like boxing games that much more.

i havnt got the full game yet, but the demo suggest its far better than fight night 2 in gameplay. Because you cant just run out throwing 100s of haymakers, because if you try your just gonna get your shots blocked and then your wide open to loads of shots. Its alot more like real boxing. The punches are slower and get slower, the player fatigue seems geniune. It's just a really well made fight sim.

As far as fight night 3 is concerned, in each of the reviews, they state that the gameplay was more or less the same between the two systems, its a given that the 360 version will have superior graphics (and sound?), but the PS2 fight night 3 is not exactly crap, considering it is on a PS2, the point is, the fundamental game is the same.
The way I see it, EA have done a good job on both consoles, just that I don't think that fight night 3 is a "killer app" for the 360, just because its graphics are sweet (over the PS2 version and in general). If that was the case then every 360 game would be a killer app because of the updated graphics. This is not the case, as I reckon there is more to it than that.
When the PS3 comes out and it MAY BE more powerful than the 360, will developers exploit it or go for games that port easily (i.e. design them for the 360 rather than the PS3). from what developers are saying I think this will the case with a majority of games, which means I will probably get a 360 down the line for the mainstream games (but in any case, not before I get me a Revolution! ;) ) In any case, my mind is still not made up over the 360 just yet, maybe things will change end of the year.
I wish people WOULD take each console on its own merit and enjoy the system they have, but I think the developers force the consumers hands, like with the gamecube and how it didnt get half the games the PS2 or Xbox did.

I was guna buy this game but i thought about it and really playing through the solo carrer would get abit boring, the online play and multi would make it up but there is only so much u can do online aswell, the grachpics are amazing compared to xbox and ps2 but they are the same game, if you want to pay £50 for a game the has better graphics then buy this but you you want to pay less and have the same fun then buy the other consoles version, it depends on your taste really, i think i will wait and get a 360 exclusive game or even bf2, that should be fun.

This is a bit off topic, but since you mentioned it, nothing is forced. We consumers have a choice. Yes??? There are plenty of consumer protection agencies and watch dog groups that protect us from the very idea of being forced. Since the developers of the system have a right and choice as to where they want the theme of their console to go, it would seem it is ok, if Nintendo, for reasons we aren't privy too, doesn’t have every game on the cube. As a consumer I am aware of just what I am purchasing when I purchase it. I also know I'm not going to be part of any board room meetings. Nor will i help decide market stratagy or revision plans. As a consumer I understand these ideas. I know, coming into a forum, if i choose to discuss the reason's why, or why not, developers do certaint things, I will be basing it off mere specilation and not much else. But i know this as a consumer. I mean, we are suppossed to know this. Right?
Bottom line, it's not like they put you behind the wheel of a run away car with no brake pedal. We weren't tricked into going to the store and buying the console we all chose. Also, for those that have been at this long enough, we do have some idea about what game library which big name (SONY, MS, NIN, SEGA) was going to bring us. Nintendo has had a kiddy feeling to it since way back when. You all remember Mortal Kombat on Snes?? No blood. While Sega had the blood code (abacab). It’s always been give and take. There are trade offs. As consumers we must realize this. You want the dodge viper? Well you'll go fast enough and look cool, but you’re not going to get the gas mileage you could have had. Still no one is strong arming your into making the purchase. There is a degree of responsibility that needs to be accepted on consumer’s part. Right?

dont talk out of ur arse, why should it have more features??? it is a multi platform game, doesn't matter if its a next-gen game or not, multi platform games are always the same in content, but graphical details are better depending on the platform it is on. The only exception is when the game is old and then the other console versions (a la Burnout Revenge on 360) that game must have more features and more content, and it does (not much extra, but its there)

i dont know what you mean by custom soundtracks because with 360 you can always play music from ur hddduring game, i do it during fight night all the time, i guess if your talking about custom songs for your boxers entrance then you might be right

Yes I was referring to custom music for fighters they never add this feature to any of there games its just plain lazyness.
Look at the fighter line up in the game its poor they could of added loads of named fighters but they chose not to again.
Last thing whats with having to knock down and hit opponent loads of times this is just stupid I know someones will say it you can knock someone out with 1 special punch but you have to have quality fighter for that.

Charbles: i guess it's because, the royalties for Mohammed Ali were very hight, the best boxer of all times (Rocky MArciano) it's missing and that's very sad. But you always can play with Goliath (ahahahahha)...
Apart of that, this game it's absolutly GORGEOUS.
Online players are kewl but people tend to quit the match when they are loosing, that's very SAD :( i hope EA release a patch to fix this.
Cheers!
