Datel have released some information regarding their 4GB hard drive for the Xbox 360. It connects to the Xbox 360 via USB, and is expected to retail for around £99, kind of controversial seeing as the original Xbox 360 20GB costs just £70. Anyway, it does have a nice design!

Datel has unveiled an external hard drive for Microsoft's Xbox 360 console. 4Gb in capacity and connecting to the 360 via USB, it's rumoured that its recommended retail price will be set at around 99 GBP - which seems ridiculously steep considering the official 20Gb HDD sets you back 70 quid. Initial reaction has been less than favourable, so far the only real positive thing being said about it being its design.

Datel's drive lacks features sported by Microsoft's official Xbox 360 hard drive. Packaging for the 4Gb unit describes its as a "portable data storage" unit that can be used to store "1,000's of songs and over 5,000 images!" - so unlike the official hard drive, it can't store game saves and can't be used for online/Xbox Live stuff. It's a fancy-looking media files transfer device, then.

An official price point and release date remains unconfirmed.

Cant see the point of this tbh

a FAT formatted IDE hard drive with a usb enclosure could be had for well less than this and would also have a hell of alot more storage for tunes and pics:)

It looks real cool but other than that it seems useless

Whilst I do concede it looks cool, for £99 I'd it to at least be solid state storage. Sandisk etc are all making 4gb chips now which when made into little usb sticks means just as much storage, safer (HDD's do fail in the end) and alot quicker.....

last I herd you could connect almost any hdd in a usb enclosure and it would work witch you could get for well under $30 for a 4gb

Hmmm...

My Conspiracy Theory is that they most likely bought way too many 4gb drives for their PSP unit and decided to 'branch out' with the extra stock...

/my 2 cents

Haha that would explain something. Other then that I really dont believe that much ppl will buy this. Take a laptop hdd 60 gb place it in a nice usb case and you probabley even save some money and have a bigger capacity. Though I´m not sure if the 360 is compatible with laptop hdds. But a normal hdd will do the job too.

They are 4GB CompactFlash Microdrives. So, yes, they are hard disks.
