Team Mental Cube have released a new version of their third party infamous BIOS for the Viper GC and Viper GC Extreme GC chips. The new Cobra v1.6 includes software to support the lates European GC models, a fix regarding cheat slow downs and various other minor bug fixes. It's great to see Mental Cube pumping out the releases, and I really can't wait for the v2.0 release!

And it work pretty well, i was wondering why i was unable to run dvds with the 1.5 version...... Now i know why !!!!

This is what we can read in the nfo, but i don't know more about the bugfixes :(. The only thing i can say is i got some more DRE than with GCoS 1.5. I have adjusted the pot (~190 Ohms) and all my backup are burned in the same way: 2x on RitekG04 and with as much closed programs as i can, for more ressources. The DOLSendUSB.exe wasn't working for me in the 1.5 version and now it work too, homebrew coding will be more interesting now.

i'm using gcos 1.5.
Not good at all imo. So, is it possible to turn it back to cobra 1.6 without using the flash cable? (the one helped me to mod the GC didn't add the port for me)

I can't have RE to play with the cobra 1.6, mounting is ok, loading ok too, then after the capcom logo there is a little cinematic where we hear a gun shoot: this is where i have the DRE. I tried adjusting the POT (we never know) from 200 to 100 and it's the same....... So i guess the way data are read depend on the bios you use and your NGC model (all my backups are playing well with GCoS 1.5) since some people complaining they can't read backups with GCoS.

mm which RE doesnt work off 1.6 damn just flashed it considering i have always have to cut a dvd to 8cm size to upgrade it would a pain to come back to 1.5(i had 1.4 before) and everything was working,anyway whats supposed to add the 2.0 firmware that ll come out ? I have a viper gc cobra(not the extreme one)

The 2.0 will take full capabilities of the viper extreme but it will also autodetect your chip extreme or not. So i guess it will have upgrade for the regular chip too

now cheats works fine even with multi disc games patch enabled, no more slowdown ;)

but there's still something wrong with the multi disc games patch itself

for example in RE4 if you open the lid during gameplay the game ask you to close the lid, if you do so the disc start spinning and the game play fine.
now, if you open the lid again, the game still ask you to close the lid but this time after closing the lid, the disc wont' stat spinning again.

you can still play but when the game needs to load something from the disc the game crash (well actually it don't crash, if you open the lid you still get the message that ask you to close the lid)

Some people got more DRE and some got less...... The best way is to test it by yourself, yesterday i was testing Zelda the WW (on Cobra 1.6) and i got DRE with it too, and as i said in previous posts i got arround 20 backup and all run well with GCoS. In fact i think Media reading depend of the dvd brand, the bios and finally the NGC version you own. Just test;)

Well I think that they must have done something to the drive code in this version as I can now run 1 of my backups that would always DRE in the same place with previous versions of Cobra.

I haven't got 'round to testing anymore of my backups yet but I'm quite happy with it upto now.

you MIGHT need to tweak but I didn't do it and my GC works perfectly ;)

I hooked the blue wires up to the lid switch. I open the lid and the disc keeps spinning. I checked both options in the setup, but it never stops spinning.

so far, all I tried are Memorex, Maxell, and Fujifilm. all those seem to work great, no problems yet.

Resident evil 1, 4, mario sunshine, mario kart, mario party 4, harvest moon, Zelda orarina of time & master quest.

I have a strange problem with 1.6, if I reboot the cube quickly it hangs on the loading screen, but if I give it a few minutes to cool down it reads without fail. This doesn't happen with 1.5.

Any ideas on why this could be happening?

EDIT: Reflashed to 1.6, works fine now.

Ive just got a GC with Cobra 1.6 already installed, is this version a buggy version or will it work with any of my games.

this is the first modded GC i have and dont know much about it, but reading this seems i might have a few problems.

Also is this the chip that will allow me to create AR codes.
