View Full Version : MadCatz: Microsoft's can't and won't lock out our wireles adapter
Alex Verrey of MadCatz has told the gaming media that Microsoft can't and wouldn't lock out their third party wireless network adapter. Very noted that MS is a licensee of theirs and MadCatz would never do anything to battle against them. Hopefully MS will see it that way as well.
<blockquote>"They can't lock it out and nor would they want to," he says. Because the wireless adapter plugs into consoles via an Ethernet port, "both consoles pick it up as a wired connection."
"Microsoft is a licensee of ours," Verrey continues. "We would never ever do anything to put Microsoft's nose out of joint as it were, and we would never look to battle against them in any way by producing a cheap knock-off product."</blockquote>

It's just a bridge. Any bridge will work with an ethernet device. Why would MadKatz even had to mention this? This isn't Datel.

Ms actually does a great service to the community by not including wifi in the 360 and keeping the price of the wifi adapter so high, keeps a lot of lag out of the system making the online experience better for everyone.

As far as I know there is no latency difference between the G and N protocol so they are as good as each other when it comes to lag.
even though there is a latency difference between wireless and wired it makes no noticeable difference in lag.
He probably thinks the bandwidth of a wired connection somehow improves his ping. bet he doesn't even have a 54Mbit/s ISP so he doesn't even gain a bandwidth advantage yet alone any significant latency one.
I bet he also thinks Sony does a great service to the community by including a gigabit ethernet port to reduce lag. who am i kidding, No he doesn't.
The truth is gigabit ethernet or 100Mb, wired or wireless, N or G makes little to no difference in latency, only bandwidth, and your bandwidth is bottlenecked by the much lower speed of your ISP anyway.

uhm.... you for real? anyone whos ever gamed online will tell you and agree that the lower the latency, the better your game plays. you simply cannot argue that wireless is just as good or you wont notice the difference. the only way your not going to notice the difference is if youve never experienced both.
if everyone on the internet had a latency of 50ms right from the get go, and half the internet used wireless and the other half used hard wired, it would be damn easy to spot whos the stupid person with wireless.
again, if you dont notice the difference on wireless, then why in the **** do people use wired?

again, if you dont notice the difference on wireless, then why in the **** do people use wired?Because some places have so much radio traffic that is actually degrades their wireless signal? Because not all routers/wireless cards are built equal? Because when the microwave is turned on, it can disrupt the 2.4Ghz band? Because wired is more secured? Because wired does deliver faster speeds?
Still, if Wireless-G is good enough for 256 simultaneous players on MAG, 32 simultaneous players on Team Fortress 2, and utilizes a dedicated server for backbone, you're all set.
If it's some peer-to-peer crap wired would be a better choice since one person bogging down could potentially cause hell for everyone else. But if you're Wireless-G signal is good, your bandwidth is good, you're pinging fine, there are no radio frequency disruptions, and you know how to port forward; you're in the green.

are you for real? yes because I've never gamed online with both.
Yes I don't have a gigabit network infrastructure at home (I do) yes I don't have a quad band wireless N network at home (I do).
I specifically said to you wired has a lower latency than wireless I'm the one who brought it up but what it adds to your overall ping (lag) is minimal because it is the difference between waking up on the left side or the right side of your bed to go to work it's hardly going to make a difference in your overall journey time.
Now I don't know what sort of wireless network you have but if your neighbourhood is crowded and you experience a lot of packet loss try switching to another band or channel but latency differences between a good wireless network and wired do not make any significant difference to your lag.
