I am getting a modded 360 off eBay and am wondering how to use burned games.

Is there a special way I have to burn them? Can I use DVD-R or DVD+R (I hope it doesn't use HD-DVD)

Also, it doesn't have a hard drive, can I save my games?

you need to use DVD+R DL discs not sure if DVD-R DL work. Verbatim are the best. Some of the new arcade consoles have 512mb built in storage if yours does not then you will need to buy either a hd or memory card.

most people say to burn at 2.4x but I do mine at 4x and 8x so far no problems. Also you will probably want to get a Kreon drive to copy your games using XBC

Does the 360 take memory cards? I have one in my Xbox one, will it work?

So DVD+R DL will work, I have those. The point is that a normal Double Layer DVD Drive will burn them?

XBC?

Also make sure your DVD burner supports burning dual layers and get hold of abgx360 to verify all your games.

What ixtreme comes with the system? If you don't know ask the seller.

The 360 requires its own MCs, however you can probably get an old 20GB HDD of ebay for about £20-30.

how much u paying for it ? i'd try to get a new one if possible, if theres not much difference in price.

personally i'd never buy a used 360, for the simple fact of rrod (among other things could've been already fixed or banned console ect.), who knows what abuse that console has went through.

i'd be cautious man, make sure u don't get a crappy 360, i know how shady some people can be, especially when dealing through the net.

XBC is xbox backup creator it is used to copy the original discs to your HD

Does XBC run on the computer?

Can I use a SATA drive in my Xbox?

Other than saves, what is the hard drive for?

Yes and the hdd can be used to:
1. Cache games to increase performance
2. Download dlc
3. Run games of the hdd

also are you interested in homebrew? Or do you only want to play games

XBC is a pc app you need a kreon drive to use it I got mine here http://samsungdrives.com/ I connect mine through a usb adapter as far as I know it is the easiest way to copy your originals

You can also use the 360 drive itself to rip games using 0800 mode in ixtreme 1.6.

You can play games off the hard drive? Would MS let people do that?

I heard there is a new thing for homebrew, but you need a Parallel port adapter or something and I do not feel comfortable opening my Xbox...

I cant use a normal drive to copy games?

snake2

no only a kreon drive or a 360 drive can rip games

the xbox will let you install games to the hd but you still need to have the disc in the tray to play them

What's a kreon drive? Is that a certain brand?

but you still need to have the disc in the tray to play themThat makes sense now...

it's a samsung drive with a special firmware i got mine here

You could not install this firmware on another drive?

Are Kreon drives internal or External?

snake2
09-14-2009, 06:24 PM
there are only about 8 drives that kreon can be flashed to don't know them all. I think all the drives are internal but you can always use a SATA to USB adapter and rip your games through USB, that's what I do

realg187

Are all the Kreon drives SATA? Are there any IDE?

I have never owned a SATA DVD Drive. I have USB Ones and IDE ones. I have the ones in my laptop, so maybe those are SATA.

I have both SATA and IDE to USB adapters so it's alright. If I get an IDE I could install it in my desktops or use a USB adapter, if I get a SATA I would have to use a USB adapter because all my desktops are just IDE...

(My two most newest/powerful computers are laptops in other words)

the web site I posted a few posts back has both IDE and SATA drives

realg187

So some drives are IDE and some are SATA?

And the drives come with the firmware already installed?

Can they burn too (I figure if I am getting a new DVD Drive, might as well get one that burns)

snake2

they pre-flash the drives with kreon firmware they are DVD-ROM for a burner I recommend an Optiarc 7240

Oh and another thing...

Will it play both PAL and NTSC games?

tech3475
09-16-2009, 04:14 AM
the PAL/NTSC problem is not the issue (In fact since Scart/component took over) but region locking is, for example, Halo 3 is region free so I can play an american copy on my pal unit but TOV is so I had to wait for the EU copy to come out before I could play it.

A good place to look may be play-asia.com (I think that's the address) since that lists the regions.

tech3475

No, the regions are stored in the game data which cannot be edited. There is not feasible solution as of posting.

realg187
09-16-2009, 05:34 PM
How come it cannot be edited, isn't there a way the modded 360 will ignore the region?

tech3475
09-16-2009, 06:37 PM
No and No. The DVD drive hack works because the firmware is simply modified to shift where it loads the security sector and it uses SATA, other than that the 360 is virtually unhackable (except for homebrew/linux using a known flaw but nothing related to 360 games).

Basically you can only play same/region free games.

It doesn't make sense that you can play backups but not games from different regions. On other modded systems you can...

tech3475
09-17-2009, 01:53 AM
Yes it does, the xex is checked during execution to make sure it isnt altered and no one has cracked this. The dvd drive handles the copy protection which was easy to crack unlike the dashboard.

Ps3 is region free anyway

the wii i believe uses more traitional methods so the modchips can block it and the system menu is hacked so removing the region is possible at a software level.

Trust me when i say you cant do it on a retail 360 as of know, if you are so desperate for it your only option is to buy a 360 from that region.

Most 360 games are region free anyway.
I think some EA games are region specific. Most of the ones i have check are region free.

I think its mostly japanese games which are region specific.

the xex is checked during execution to make sure it isnt altered and no one has cracked thisSo it can check that a game from a different region is there and been modifed but it can't check for backups?

Anyways, although it makes litttle sense to me (it makes a little more sense now) I will trust you, because why would you lie about that?

Anyways, would The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion UK be region locked?

abgx360 will tell you what region your game is google it

It can be a problem buying used. I picked up a used one last summer. It was still under its original 12 months warranty but I still ended up sending it back three times in 4 months. They then sent me a replacement unit that has worked great since.

I'm surprised that a hacked Xbox got past eBay's prying eyes.

There was another listing too for a modded one.

If the listing said something like "Get this and download games for free and not pay" the I probably could see that it would be removed, but the listing for mine just said "a console with mods" and it had lights and fans. The seller mentioned nothing about burned games (whether they be backups or pirates).

I messages the seller asking if it would play backups and they said it does.
