so thanks to this site i got my cousin's psp working. anyway, i noticed if you turn it off, then on, the reg hack X to O button is still working. i thought if you turn it off, all stuff would go back to "normal"

how does the X -> O reg hack still function? and my question really is, why can't the thing still play home brew if it is turned off? how is the registry hack different from the main hack that allows home brew and isos?

just curious. thanks.

Button setting is stored in IdStorage area in the NAND flash (think of it as CF/SD/MS Duo/Hard disk) which does not depends on power to keep the data. The ability to run Homebrew depends on patching the kernel in RAM which will disappear when power is turn off.

The registry hack for making O select instead of X is stored in flash 1. So even after you reboot the PSP the registry files that got changed will stay that way until you reset the system defaults under the system menu. The HEN hack that is used to play honebrew and ISO's is stored in the PSP's RAM and will be gone after you do a full reboot.

On older PSP 2000's and 1000's you can change the IDStorage to make the PSP's region Japan instead of US or UK which makes O becomes select or Vice-versa.

The registry files will not change even if you update to a newer OFW. As long as the registry files stay valid and you do not reset the default settings, X or O as select will not change.

Unlike on older PSP's where you can change the IDStorage's region. It's not recommended that anyone does this and can only be done via DC7 or DC8.
