Another 360

Some time ago i had a few problems with my 360 and got loads of help on here,and much appreciate the time people took too try and help me out.. but never got round to sorting them due to personal problems ...

any how i Just won a 360 on ebay with a broken dvd drive which wont read discs and been told that it is an hitachi drive ( i got them to compare pics of dvd drive trays to confirm which drive it was )

also told that
This console has a faulty DVD drive and will not read any games
the console powers on fine and runs the dashboard perfectly.
You can still connect to xbox live, play arcade games and demos etc

my old 360 was running ixtreme 1.4 with an hitachi 78 drive which consequently was banned from xbox live , then got rrod then error 74 and i know the dvd drive is fine

Since not being on any console for so long or on here im just wondering

1. will my hitachi 78 drive replace any other hitachi? i have the original firmware for the drive backed up or would i have to change the boards in the dvd drive if it isnt a 78 drive?

2. whats the situation now with modded firmwares as there seems to be a few kikin about since 1.4, so would like to know the best firmware to use

you want to find out the fault with the console you bought off ebay,if it dont read discs due to having wrong key or wrong drive in the unit then you wasted your money.so your questions would be basicly a waste of time to answer,its like you talk about the unit like you dont actualy have it.

so wait till you got it,try a game and then tell us what happens.

no probs m8, im picking it up on sunday , they say all the security seals are intact and that the console has never been opend etc

you can be the judge of that by looking at the warranty/rear clips on console.

chances are it could be a laser replacement job or at most a drive swap if its the original drive.

let us know when you got,then we can advice you from there.

before i go for this 360 now on staurday ..
i know i only payed £26 for the xbox console but dnt want to be paying money for a brick and pennies are tight at the moment


the dvd drive ejects but wont play any dvd or 360 games there is no error message the xbox just says 'reading' then goes back to 'open tray' , it has been repaired for the rrod via microsoft which they have a certificate for
if it dont play anything atall dvd or games then is this more likely to be a broken motor or something or could it be a bad attempt at a flash?

yes,its either replace laser or drive.i would expect TO PLAY THIS DISC if it was not correct drive.probably an hitachi or samsung,they are more prone to this behaviour.

yer , its an hitachi drive and i have a 78 drive from my other 360 which works fine and is flashed with ixtreme 1.4.....

hopefully over weekend ill get it all sorted with 1.5 or whatever is the latest one
