Ubisoft has confirmed that Splinter Cell Conviction will never come to the PS3. On the official forums, they noted there are a number of reasons for this including: a historical link between them and Xbox and being able to optimize the game even further as there is just one single target platform.

God I really hate all these exclusive crap. Why can't they make all games work on all platforms? I would love to have Drake's Fortune on the 360 just like I'm sure there are a lot of people who wants Gears of War on the PS3. The whole thing is stupid.

Great, that will keep the door open for Guerilla / Naughty Dog / Insomniac / Zipper ( insert your fav. studio here ) to create a similiar game, and correctly optimized for the PS3 :)

If every game worked on every platform you may as well only have one console on the market and that would just give high prices and lack of innovation.
I don't know about you but id rather not go back to the days of £50-55 cartridge rrp where nobody drops the price and hardware that just doesn't get price slashed.

Sad to see, since I think Splinter Cell is a truly marvelous franchise...

Happy to see, that Ubisoft decided this time to concede and focus on one market rather than pull a Terminal Reality and push out a game inferior (haven't played it but the forums seem to say so) on one platform (aka the ghostbuster resolution issue)

I they had the guts to admit they didn't want to do a multplatform due to commitment and cost rather than blaming one platform or the other

I'd be a lot more disappointed if splinter cell was still a hardcore stealth game, everything I've seen/heard about it so far seems like they're making it more action oriented/simpler/easier, which made me lose interest.

I never liked Splinter Cell, I will give Conviction a shot though, cause it didn't look bad, it looked kind of interesting. Still. Ubisoft Montreal, You're not developing MGS, no matter how much you want to be, you're not Kojima Productions, so get over yourself Splinter Cell devs, very few people actually care about this exclusivity, and most of them are 360 fanboys. When you achieve status like MGS, God of War, StarCraft, Fallout, or even Assassin's Creed, which is from the same developing studio, then you can brag about exclusivity. Nobody cares, just like nobody cares about Tecmo's Quantum Theory's exclusivity, and more and more Gears of War exclusivity. Who asked you a question about Conviction's exclusivity anyway? Now, if it were Hideo Kojima, Sam Houser, Fumito Ueda, or Gabe Newell speaking about his new game, then maybe somebody actually would have cared.
Adding a potential 80-ish (Metacritic Score) game is a nice addition, but it doesn't really get people that excited, does it? And everybody already knew this was supposed to be another xbox exclusive, so what really is the news here? Now if you were innovating the genre, and then failed a little bit, you could be credited for innovation, which does count for excitement, but you clearly do not aspire to do that. So what's the fuss about? No high hopes really (like another installment of Starcraft, MGS, Fallout, Diablo, God of War or similar AAA titles), no innovation, no new IP = nothing to be excited for. I own a 360, I will play this title, cause it really does look fun, and I don't play the tried and true franchises exclusively, but please, don't act like you're more than you actually are.

That's why PS3 owners also tend to have high end PCs. :p

I sense the connection is a little more than historical. Ubisoft have been extremely hush about the PC release of SC:C. During the MS press conference we were even told "Only on xbox 360" when that is a downright lie, On their official site they show no PC logo or any signs of it coming to PC. However, it is coming to PC and the only way people can find out is to follow the developer interviews which say so.

well to be fair 360 still has exclusives the sequels to HALO and gears for example, forza is another etc, etc but those just haven't pushed me to buy one, lets see if gears 2 comes to PC some time in the near future really enjoying some of the PS3 exclusives now Uncharted 2 beta ;).

This is exactly why I think exclusives = bullshit. I want games like Drake's Fortune and what ever the hell Sony has as exclusives without having to buy the PS3. At least Sony owners have the option to buy 360 exclusives because you can usually get them for the PC too. I bought the 360 because it was affordable, but I don't give a **** about the game consoles and which one is better. I just want to play games.

Well I totally agree with the concentrating on one platform if they think 2 - 3 is more than they can handle. Nothing wrong with knowing your limitations, but what's this about a historical link between S.C. and the Xbox? I've never owned an xbox and I'm sure I played quite a few S.Cs on my ps2. That supposed link is as bogus as the M.G. link with sony, aside from the out of all consoles released there are probably only 3 - 4 that haven't gotten a M.G game.

More likely its a situation much like Konami and MGS4, the engine was platform specific. Porting it would not only be costly but likely not financially feasable...look at the games so far that have started on one platform and then showed up on another a year or so later...none of them seem to sell well.

First off, ubisoft is using Unreal engine for their next gen continuations of this series. Cinsidering that UT3 is on PS3 and is using unreal engine 3... this is just a BS excuse *cha ching*

Second, who cares about splinter FAIL. Got really played out after chaos theory.

Actually they are using a proprietary engine called LEAD that was a fork from Unreal 2.5 engine.

Second, why do you post about it its all just fail to you anyway, are you worried someone might not know your position on the current generation...trust me we get it...MS and Nintendo bad...anything from sony good...You fanboys crack me up.

Thats a shame, splinter cell is practically the only decent stealth game series available that is consitantly good in my view these days (left MGS for dust with SC1), so it's pity that PS3 owners are being denied it. I know the games have been more xbox focused by the devs, but if i recall they have been multi format since the second one or maybe even a later release of the original on PS2 (maybe GC can't remember off hand). So it's hardly a single format series, just a single format favoured one.

I wouldn't be suprised if at some point inthe not to distant future Sony announce a first party stealth game that is "much better" than SC

Well the revelations come thick and fast around here.

All this Ka-ching etc etc etc.

Caused me to slump back in my chair and contemplate the scenario where a dev actually wants to make a few £££. Heaven forbid they should spend time and a helluva-lot of money developing for a platform where it's not well recieved and sells only 10 coppies.

Did Ubisoft say that Splinter Cell Conviction would never come to PS3? I mean i read that Ubisoft only said that they had no plans to release the game for the PS3. I dont think that Splinter Cell Conviction will come to the PS3 though, but saying "we dont have any plans for it" could be understood that it is not 100% ruled out, at least in my opinion :)

EDIT: Maybe this has been mentioned before in this thread, but i havnt read all the other posts, i am sorry :\

That's nothing more than favoritism on the devs behalf, or like with the similar situations we see these days, they simply knew how to work the xbox better than the ps2..... unless you are implying that they purposely screwed up lighting on the ps2 to show how much they disliked the console? When I think Splinter Cell, xbox doesn't automatically come to mind, and I'm sure I'm not the only one.

So? both your and DanASBO's opinions are more important than mine or anyone who might agree with me? I never said that there aren't others who think otherwise. Their "link" is not so universal, and late release or not, as far as I know there's only been 1 Spliter Cell game that's been exclusive, so what kind of link does the game have with people like me that had a ps2, and no xbox? Actually, I'm mistaken... it's 2 games.... but one is exclusive to the psp for all I know.

If you want to be technical, there is a historical link, but only in the most literal meaning of the word; the same way there's a historical link between the series and ALL platforms it's been released on (PS2, Xbox, GC, GBA, N-Cage/Mobile Phones, PC, Wii, 360, PS3, PSP, DS... am I forgetting any?). I get the impression that he meant a deeper relationship between the series and the xbox brand, which is what I don't agree with.

I think they are refering more to the fact that it was initially touted as the exclusive Xbox answer to MGS, not sure if that was the official line but that was the vibe that was with it on the net at the time (i didn't pay much attention to the xbox at the time as i was happy with my PC). Like any Dev/publisher tho looking to stay in business when selling on a low install base, after the limited exclusivity on the xbox they went multiplatform, but originally it was an xbox game. I agree tho trying to make the same link now is fairly weak considering it is on virtually every format available in some form or another these days, maye saying it has it's roots on the xbox would be better tho still wouldn't chancge the fact that it's multiformat now..

Don't get it twisted, I was just agreeing with the dude. I know it's been multi for a long time, but it was one of those games that I, me personally, bought for the Xbox. As I said, I could only play GTA on the PS but that was multi as well.

Well if it was touted as the xbox answer to mgs, but those were words... if there's one thing sony has thought me is to disregard those in the face of actions. I just think that facts don't support the idea that there's a special link between the two, and if one was implied the message didn't get across to me or anyone else who only had a ps2, gc and played Splinter Cell on it.

And because GTA is multiplatform I don't know why people always thought of it as playstation game. It's always been released on at the very least 2 plaforms. I really never got why some people were crying so much when the game was released for the 360.

Just for the sake of argument, you do know that the "xbots" don't usually care when a 360 game comes to the ps3? On the contrary the ones I usually see making petitions about games jumping platforms are, much to my dismay, the ps3 owners. The DMC4 fiasco was just embarrassing, and everyone who signed that petition should really reconsider their priorities in life.
