I know i should have asked this before i bought one, but recently bricked my hitatchi drive, and bought a benq from ebay, brand new. Now, is it even possible to use this benq on this xbox or will it just not work, and do i use a hitachi firmware or benq?!?!

You need benq firmware spoofed as hitachi. Yes its possible provided you have dumped your original key? If not your stuffed. Jungle flasher will do most of the dirty work for you, just download the benq 1.51

not necessarily,i can retrieve the firmware and therefore the key from bricked/electrical blown hitachi drives pcb.

Saleem has something changed or is this a different drive, you advised you could NOT do this a couple of days ago? He has a replacement drive, surely its better to help him do that now he has paid for it? That way he can do any updates he wants himself as 1.6 should hopefully arrive soon :)

i cant remember the thread but,if he thought the drive could be recovered to work it couldnt be (not by myself) and it would still cost.

thats why advice was to buy replacement drive.

In firmware tool 32 tab within JungleFlasher, load the original hitachi firmware as source firmware, iXtreme v1.51 for benq as the target firmware then click the 'spoof source to target' button, this copies all the relevant data from the hitachi drives original firmware to the hacked ixtreme firmware, click the 'save to file' button and save the firmware, then flash it to the benq drive as you would any other benq.
What this does is once the benq is flashed, it becomes 'spoofed' as the hitachi, so the console thinks that the hitachi drive is still present in the console, when in fact it is a benq drive in there.
To explain in simple terms;
All 360 drives are married to the console they are fitted to by osig data (drive model and firmware revision) and a unique drive key (the key and osig data is held in the drives firmware, as well as in the consoles motherboard) , as long the correct data is present in the firmware of any drive you fit, it will work.
