ok i have a question. i am looking at opening up one of my xbox 360's
1 is a 11 month old elite the other a 3 day old arcade.
except for the accessories, hard drive, network cable, hdmi cable. is there any difference between the two? is a elite less likely to fail then a arcade. both have hdmi and run off the same PSU as i knwo some of the older arcades when the elite came out had a different PSU. so its not a old arcade that doesn't have HMDI
I guess what I am asking is (which my head is telling me is the best option.) the best option to crack open the elite as it has less warranty on it and then keep the arcade fresh as it where.
which ever one i don't open i will use for online play and the opened one i will get the drive hacked to play backups.(offline)
thanks in advance.

Probably should depend on what drive you have.
If you are going to flash by yourself that is.

Flick a coin then mate.
Most failures are RRoD that M$ covers for 3 years anyway.
Just make sure that whoever does it keeps your warranty sticker intact.

I'd say the arcade you got is less likely to fail, the 11 month old elite is sure to be a falcon. And the new arcade a jasper (pls confirm). If the elite's got a liteon too, flash the arcade.

is there anyway to tell what type of board it is without cracking the case.
both have 175 output on the powersupply and both have a hdmi port.
looks like they are both falcon units.
12v 14.2a on the back of the machine none are 12v 12.1a

Sounds like theyre both falcons. I would flash your arcade as all the elites that come to me have E74 (1022 hana scaler chip problems). My arcade falcon has never had an issue and i see very few of those for repair.
If your elite does get the E74 issue and youve voided your warantee, you'll be kicking yourself.

would that be covered by the 1 year warranty or the 3 year? as the elite only has about 1 or 2 months of the 1 year left. i know they do rrod for 3 years.
plus the most important thing to me would be xbox live, so i would have one console for live, one for backups.
so i will prob get the elite hacked and leave the arcade witch has the longer warranty for use with xbox live.
unless this strikes anyone as a crazy option.

all 360s are covered for 3 red lights and E74 for 3 years from the manufacture date on the rear of the console.

my arcade with 14.2a failed within 1 year, luckily microsoft replaced it, but they only replaced the motherboard with another falcon :(

The choice is really up to you, whichever console you mod will no longer be covered by waranty. Yes i know E74 is now also covered by MS for up to 3 years (from date of purchase), i was just pointing out the failure rate that i have personally seen (mainly elites with E74 or older xenons with 3 red lights (0102)
my less than year old falcon pro got e73 but i fixed it.
you really can't say one sku will get rrod over another, unless it's a jasper, i suppose these are alot more solid, but for some reason i still have my doubts about how good jaspers really are.
everyone was saying more less the same with falcons back then an they obviously rrod too.
does anyone know if any jaspers have failed ? i'm sure they have.
just curious.

send the arcade. most likely will be a liteon and more work for who ever is doing it. also less likely to fail if its a jasper.
The elite on the other hand is possibly more likely to fail and will be more expensive to replace but probably easier to flash.
So if you are doing it yourself open the elite, if someone else is doing it open the arcade.
