View Full Version : EZ flash 3 in 1 as a memory pack for browser need HELP!!
Hi
I am a total newbie at this. I have a DS Lite. I bought an R4 a few months ago and been playing games on that. I got the nintendo browser rom and tried it. It said a memory pack is required. So for 20 bucks I bought a EZ Flash 3 in 1 card because it can be used as a memory pack for the nintendo browser.
I received the EZ flash card today and I have no idea how to make it work. My DS browser rom doesn't seem to recognize the EZ flash card. I did some research and found out that I need to download files and set them up in the mini-sd card for my R4. I just don't have a CLUE what to download and what to do with it.
Can anyone please walk me through what I need to do here? I am totally new at this and very frustrated. Thank you so much.

Download and install GBA ExpLoader onto your card. When you launch it, it will let you activate the 3in1's RAM so your R4 can use it for the Opera browser.
Note that if you got one of the very newest 3in1s, you may need to wait for an update to GBA ExpLoader before it will work correctly.
Thanks for your response. I downloaded every GBA exploader that exist (every version). So far only one seems to be responsive but even when I "activate" the expansion pack as ram, the nintendo browser asks for memory pack anyway as if it wasn't recognizing that there is one already. don't know what to do!!

I don't actually have a 3in1, so I can't diagnose the problem here. Check up on the various 3in1 tutorials on the web (there are plenty) or even Youtube tutorials. If you do exactly as they do and it still doesn't work, perhaps you've got a new 3in1 that will require an update to GBA ExpLoader. If yours says anything about having 512 Mbits of NOR flash (as opposed to 256 Mbits) then you've definitely got the newer version.
I just tried to patch the .nds browser file, following instructions I found online and it still doesn't recognize the added RAM. I'm really giving up on this. I don't even know how to find out which 3 in 1 version I have.

you might have been unlucky and got the new version of the 3in1 which is causing nightmares at present.
firstly make sure your r4 is running its final firmware v1.18 from r4ds.cn then use gbaxploader 0.58b to upload a gba rom into your nor memory on the 3in1 for somr reason this seems to activate the ram, no boot an unpatched clean rom of the ds browser and it should now find the ram.
as i say nothing is guaranteed just yet, the new 3in1 was created because the chips were no longer made to make the old version and this new one realy doesnt seem to work well with any card its not only the browser ram but rumble too thats causing issues.
billysastard, I did what you said and loaded a gba game into the nor. I also launched the game but then when it is in gba mode i don't know how to go back to the menu. how do I do that? thanks

just reboot your ds, you dont need to reset back, its just that having something in nor seems to work sometimes with these new 3in1's, as i say its all if's, but's and maybes at the moment as these new 3in1's are proving to be a bit of a nightmare.
It doesn't work... I think I've tried pretty much everything:
1) I installed GBA exploader and GBA games work but opera browser doesn't detect the ram
2) I tried patching a clean browser and it still doesn't detect the ram
3) I tried an already patched browser and it doesn't detect the ram either
4) I tried what you said before and it doesn't work. Nothing seems to work for me.
dammit I really need opera on my DS for privacy reasons and I am going crazy with this stuff. any other suggestions? Thanks

I too am having this problem. I have tried every means of patching the rom on my R4, have tried virtually every version of GBA Exploader (and the various other tools floating around) and nothing works. They either do not detect my 3 in 1 pack or do, but when I active the expansion, the browser still requests the memory expansion.
Even more bizarre, I purchased an EZFlash V+ (as I was informed that these would allow the browser to detect the expansion pack straight away). I dragged the rom over and nothing, still won't detect the expansion pack. I think I need a clean rom, but have no idea where to find one.
what is considered a clean rom? because i thought i was getting a clean rom from nds roms website.

Am not sure exactly what the definition of a clean rom is. I did find a site earlier which had an archive of clean roms, so figured I'd download the browser. After all, everywhere I looked people said "Use a clean browser rom", so figured this was my mistake, but nope, nothing, still won't have it.
I am officially at a loss here, I have a card (EZFlash V+) and expansion pack (3 in 1 which was purchased in Dec 08) that supposedly are meant to let you run the browser without ANY set up. Yeh, there's an understatement, at least the R4 I can blame on the new chip set in the 3 in 1, but this alludes me, I figured both being EZ products, they would be able to see each other (apparently, they can).

as i say its a matter of waiting till the card makers sort out how to make the new 3 in 1's work properly, sadly this may mean that unless gbaexploader can be sorted out then the r4 is stuck, all other cards that are still updated should get a firmware update once its sorted out, in the meantime its out of luck i'm afraid.

Hmmm, so you're saying that when the next firmware is released for my EZFlash, it should work? Hopfully you are right. I have the beta of the next and it isn't working so maybe the next one.
how long does it take for them to make a new gba exploader? is it more like 2 months or more like a year??

Not that long, judging by the release dates of the previous versions. Assuming they are making one, I'd say we would see it probably within the next couple of months.
would someone mind posting a message on this thread as soon as they come up with the new gba exploader? i don't really know where to look for updates. Thanks

there is a big problem.
when ez updated the 3in1 to the + version they released the source code of the new gba part so others could update their software, acekard and cyclo updated and their cards now support the +, rudolph updated gbaexploader too so other cards could load gba games but there is no source code for the ram / rumble in the + and so no software updates.
tbh i dont think ez realised they broke the 3in1 with the release of the plus (which would explain why their cards dont support it) so it could take some time until its more widely supported.
the big problem is that its not realy as simple as an update for gbaexploader, although that might enable rumble its down to the card makers themselves to change their firmware to add detection and use of the additional ram to autopatch the browser clean rom and until someone works it out everyone is in the same boat.
my guess would be that the first sign will be someone releasing a patch to "fix" the browser to work with the 3 in 1 a bit like they did in its very early days to get it working before cards started to support it.

ok, if you have an original 3in1 then cyclo, acekard, edge and ez-v owners will have no issues at all, other cards can use gbaexploader and it'll work as ram, rumble and gba.
if you have the newer 3in1+ then acekard, cyclo, edge and ez-v users can use a clean browser rom and gba games but chances are that rumble will never work if it doesnt already, it does seem that ez MAY have quietly updated the 3in1+ as a very few users report they have rumble working now, for users of other cards that dont support the 3in1 directly you can use gbaexploader 0.58b (or newer) to get gba support, to get browser support you need a clean copy of the european version of the browser then you need to apply the patch linked to above, this will allow the browser to see the 3in1+ and therefore work.
rumble is either working or more likely not (if you have a 3in1+) as i said in the paragraph above.
i hope that helps

Thanks for the reply Billy,i use an Itouch DS.So i would have to use the Gba exploader, but it does not seem to work. The Itouch forum have told me that it did work with old chipset so i'm assuming that i'm being held back by the fact that the current Itouch firmware will not support it.
I have requested that they update the firmware but they don't seem very intrested in doing that. :(
If only i had the brains to fix this thing myself somehow,i am guessing i will just have to wait and see if Itouch decide to support it.
Cheers,Paul

if you have an itouch then you are stuck with using gbaexploader, just make sure that you have v0.58b or newer and that will work with all versions of the 3in1, the browser issue realy should have been corrected by now as the 3in1+ started shipping last year but as i said above you can use the patch to get around it.
internal support for the browser ram should come and honestly its pretty disgraceful that some card makers havent done this by now, it is however unlikely they will add gba support to the i-touch since it was never directly supported.
cards arent too expensive and it doesnt hurt to have a backup so maybe you should consider buying a better supported card as your main one and keeping the i-touch in reserve.

Yes,thats sound advice.I am thinking of getting a new card which supports the 3 in 1,a friend of mine suggested a CycloDs.
What would you advise?Obviously i want something which is going to definitely support the new chipset 3 in 1 and at the same time has good ongoing support. The cheapest i can see the Cyclo for is £35 inc postage,it would be nice to get something a little less expensive then that if poss.

sadly the cyclo is expensive part of that is because its makers fix the price artificaly high by refusing to sell to anyone who goes below a certain price the other part is that its got the highest build quality and onboard flashable memory to store its firmware.
the cheapest places are around the £32 if you are in the uk but check out cyclos reseller list on their website and also look at gameyeah who used to be the cheapest place but with sterling tanking it may not work out that way now.
as to what to buy, well the cyclo is the best cart but if you dont want to pay that kind of price then the edge card has the same build quality and compatability but is slightly slower to be updated because it uses a hacked version of the cyclo firmware so it takes them a day or so to release a new version after the cyclo gets one, also they tend not to do the beta updates you can get from the cyclops forum (after you sign up) the edge offers a single speed slo-mo (instead of the cyclos multi speed) but it does have the integrated 3in1/+ compatability as good as it can be done (same as cyclo and ez's own ez-v+), another alternative is the acekard 2 but you'll need to run the open source akaio firmware instead of the official one to get the 3in1 compatability internal, its certainly the cheapest card worth buying however it is built to a price so its not as well made as the edge or cyclo.

Thanks Billy,i will certainly look into the edge & the acekard 2.Your advice is invaluable to me.Yes,it seems its the same old story when you come to down to it,you get what pay for.
Another user on this forum has suggested that i pick up a DSTT card. They certainly are cheap at about £6 inc delivery. This other user has told me that they have good support, are an ok card and that they run the Ezflash 3 in 1 new chipset fine by means of the GBA exploader.Does that sound correct to you?As i mention the one of the main things i want is some compatability with the new 3 in 1 chipset one way or another.
If you can confirm that for me i will pick one of those up right now,at that price i'd be mad not to!I can not find a DSTT site or forum though,so i'm not sure where i would go for firmware/support etc.

Be careful with the DSTT, as many of those available are actually fakes. For instance, DealExtreme sells about 5 different versions, only one of which is the "real" DSTT.
Yeah it's cheap, but you don't get too many features aside from SDHC support and cheat support. I also haven't heard anything about a DSTT firmware update in a while, so I'd imagine with newer games you'd have to use the ARM7 patch trick in order for them to run.

what dan says is spot on the dstt is like all the fake r4's its an ultra basic, poor quality card and it has some troubles running certain games, in fact there is even a game that the ORIGINAL r4 will run that the dstt wont, as for gbaexploader, yes that works with any cart but you did say that you wanted the support to be included and not external.
just remember that whilst acekard 2 and edge are cheaper they lack many (almost all) of the cyclos extra features, most importantly they lack realtime save which in a portable console is a realy useful function to have as it allows you to save your game anywhere at any time and then restart your game later from the point you stopped.

Yes,RT save would be very useful, but i think for the present the Edge should be fine for my purposes. (I hope!!) I ended up paying about £11.50 inc postage for the Edge,it comes boxed with the usual micro sd usb converter plug thingy.I'll see how it goes, maybe when i have a little more cash in my pocket i may pick the Cyclo itself up.
Anyhow i will make sure to come back to the this thread and let you know how it runs, what i think of it and if it works nicely with the 3 in 1.
Thnx again for the advice guys, without i would have been basically just stabbing in the dark.
