I took out my 1.6 Xbox today to start doing some work for a new mod. The short of it is that after placing the board and the power supply back in, my Xbox won't power up. I checked all my solder points and connections. I tried disconnecting the chip in case it was causing a short for some reason. I also tried removing the DVD Rom and HDD in case one of them was causing a short. I'm even relatively sure it's not the power supply because while doing things I got a little shock from it. But nothing, no power at all to the Mother Board.

Anyone have any ideas, hunches or shots in the dark? I may have another power supply I can try out but that won't happen until next week :(

I know it sounds too obvious but ive done this myself, double check that youve plugged the power connector back into the motherboard correctly. Its easy to forget when you're in a rush or your mind's elsewhere.
Also make sure you plugged in the wires from the power/eject board on the front panel.
If that doesnt solve it, remove the psu and motherboard again, make sure theres nothing (e.g: a screw) under there that could be touching components, then reinstall everything.

Thanks MasterGouken. I've just re-checked it once again, but still nothing. And yeah I made sure no metal was shorting the board and re-secured all connections. At this point I'm thinking that I burnt out the power regulator. I will see if I have another xbox power supply to test first in storage, but I have to wait until after the holiday to test with a multimeter and be sure if it's the regulator or not.

It was the regulator, thankfully it was an easy repair job.

They apparently burn out if you connect the PSU to the motherboard if the plug (power) is already in. No doubt I accidentally did that while messing around with testing stuff for my next mod. Live and learn.
