Rumor: Microsoft to compete with iPhone with Nvidia powered mobile phone

Theinquirer.net is reporting that Microsoft is to take on the iPhone and Google's Android phone with its own branded mobile phone. The phone will apparently be based powered by NVIDIA's Tegra chip and it is believed Microsoft will announce the phone at 3GSM in February 2009. no further details were provided.

Geesh i mean i love high end phones but dishing out 800 for a cell phones a little bit to much seeing as to how it can be stolen or lsot easily and i bet the insurance on a phone lke that would suck. i mean how are these guys trying to compete with the iphone when the damn thing is only 200 bucks with a new contract there never going to outsell iphones with that crazy pricing not to also forget the g1 which retails for 180 with new contract

There's been phones that do whatever the iphone does for years (multi touch screen excluded). HTC has been making superb Windows Mobile phones for years, and the unlocked versions usually run you upwards of $700. Nokia has those n-series phones that also go for upwards of $600 - $700, and sony released the P900 (I think there was also a P800) like 6 years ago and it was worth about $750 easy.

Coming from someone that's really into cel phones and stuff, I can tell you that $800 phones is nothing new, and not even close to be the most expensive; nokia had a phone 8800, I believe, that I saw quite a few times for $1200....... and it didn't even have a color lcd (yeah it was a FEW years ago).

Apple are really the masters of the art of REinventing the wheel, before it was the ipods in regards to mp3 players, now it's the iphone in regards to the smartphone. Most people are acting like there was never anything like the iphone before, but anyone that's even casually followed mobile phones will tell you that the iphone is a "been there, done that" product.

fixed that for you. the statement is equally applicable to the iPod. far from the first, certainly not the most feature packed product, but it sold extremely well because it did what it did very well. smartphones before the iphone has previously done all the same things the iphone does, often with less restrictions, but the end user experience was just crap.

Hummm.. Just pointing out that while microsoft making one maybe rumor, sony is in fact making one. If Nintendo was making one id post that as well. But the sony phone was to compete with iphone. That is what this thread is about. Phones competing with i phone.

Didn't microsoft buy sidekick out. So it always expected they would get in to the phone market.

since when does nokia and HTC become talk around here? usually its Sony Microsoft and Nintendo and game devs. If your so insecure because i said something true that you think its a attack. Then you have issues. What in my statement do you find attacking to sony or untrue?

Why is it so hard to see that microsoft may or may not be making a phone to compete with iphone. But sony actually is (but if you mention it sony fanboys think your attacking sony.)

Yeah, I rather Microsoft works with ATI/AMD than Nvidia. There were some issues between Microsoft and Nvidia, but with ATI/AMD... everything went fine. As for XBOX 360, Nintendo Gamecube had ATI GPU in it, and also Nintendo Wii as well. But Nvidia, I kinda dunno... we'll see what's happen when the press or information is indeed REAL DEAL!

Right, if that's your opinion then that's good; however, I never had any problems with an mp3 player before the ipods, they all did EXACTLY the same things the ipod did... PLAY MUSIC, and I don't see what's the big deal with the ipods UI, what was so difficult about the other mp3 players? If anything dealing with itunes is the most annoying thing any mp3 player does. Now the iphone... as I said, nothing new, nothing that I see as being supposedly so easy about the interface... well actually I just don't find other interfaces that difficult to deal with. People just keep mentioning this stuff about the end user experience being so much better, and yet not one person I've asked can tell me how exactly. I guess it's personal preference, so it's subjective. You wanna hear something Objective? it's a fact that neither product did anything new, maybe the multi-touch, and the app market as I said before.

It's not just what you do.

It's how you do, how you present it, and like them or not Apple, may well only be doing what others have already done, but the way they do it and they way they present it is what makes them stand out.

And thats the same for any business.

Well I guess I'm not so shallow that their products would appeal to me more than any others because they look "pretty" according to some tastes :p

My issue isn't with the company if you really think about it; I just don't like the average Apple user who wants to tell me how great their mp3, phone is because it's Apple, and then goes off to basically read me some pamphlet about it's features... if that wasn't bad enough a lot, and I do mean A LOT, of them don't even know what the hell they are talking about.

Anyways, don't mind me, I've dealt with both ipods, and iphones, used them and fiddled with them, but I just don't see what makes them so pretty, or what makes them so much easier to use than other competing products. It's just like the FPS genre, no matter how "great" a FPS supposedly is, I just don't see it.
