Its kind of hard to believe, but a university lecturer from the UK has received a grant of £5000 in order to study the Wii. As part of his research, Dr Michael Duncan will study a group of children who use the Wii during their lunch break in order to test if it can improve fitness and battle obesity.

Michael Duncan from the University of Derby will monitor a group of schoolchildren who use the games console during their school lunch break.

Over a period of six weeks he will test to to see if it can improve fitness and help tackle obesity by getting the pupils to wear a an accelerometer to monitor how much exercise the game actually gives them.

It is thought the sports science expert, who was awarded £5,000 funding from the TANITA Healthy Weight Community Trust, hoped he would get to run the tests on the YouTube Wii Fit girlfriend.

£5000 to study children playing a video game console?
Sounds like Gary Glitters idea job.
But why would you need £5000 to study that? The Wiis cost about £200
Thats £4800 left over.

Kids are generally annoying and the wii even more so. BUT for £5000 i would do it and not even complain.

P.s: Hasn't this news already been posted and then it was a UNI that got the cash?
