I searched the forums and could not find any extensive discussion about Final Fantasy VII PSX on the PSP.
I believe everyone has already played FF7 when we had 3.40OE CFW and this was good. But now we are on 3.71M33, 3.80M33, 3.90M33, 4.01M33, etc... and Final Fantasy 7 plays differently.
I remember Final Fantasy 7 on 3.40OE didn't have corrupted battle scenes. But then I played FF7 on 3.90M33 with 3.40 POPs and I get corrupted battle scenes. I usually have to switch between 3.40, 3.72 and original version during the popstation conversion (3.03).
Now I've come to a big stuck position during that blue wizard and his spikey staff that he sticks in the ground and a water fall comes down and we see animation off flower girl.
If I use original 3.03 version to run, then blue wizard just stops and not move during the spikey staff placement.
If I use 3.10, 3.40, 3.72 then I see a black screen during the flower girl animation.. and cannot continue (I think it's frozen or crashed).
Has anyone else experienced this? How to solve?

In my experience, I never read or listen someone that has played to FFVV perfectly.
This all real test.
Final Fantasy VII/7 SCUS-94163 NTSC-U Yes Make sure your Disc-Load Speed is set to "Normal". If you have it on Fast the game may glitch after a battle.
3.03: Certain enemy moves can cause the the whole screen to turn green or red while still hearing battle sounds and music, the game time will literally slow down to where one attack can take ten minutes to complete. If you do manage to make it to the field screen, save then reset to restore the glitched graphics. Known moves to cause this so far: Hell Bubbles, Sleepel, Ultrasound, and Limit Break: Seal Evil (basically any attack that can cause sleep or silence).
3.11: No battle swirl, but sleep and silence attacks don't cause game to glitch.
3.40: Battle swirl works fine, but sleep and silence attacks DO cause the game to glitch.
Game glitches in battle after Yuffie steals your materia.
3.52: Battle swirl works fine, also sleep and silence attacks no longer cause glitches.
3.71: The Music tempo is slightly too quick but other than that it works great didn't crash or glitch at all. -anthall1991
Right after you beat Demon Gate, you wake up in Gonagaga, Go down to the south of Gonagaga, BUT there will be no Tiny Bronco there.
The game freezes at certain points in Cosmo Canyon. Switch to a different version of Pops to get past this issue.
Jar in which Yuffie hides in during the Wutai sidequest doesn't shake. Switch to a different version of Pops to get past this issue.
The game froze when trying to enter the 3rd area of the Ancient forest. Everything else worked fine.
3.80: Unplayable. The battle swirl causes the game to glitch. Use the new popsloader to run the game under a version that works.
3.90: Same problem 3.80 has. Use the popsloader designed for 3.80 m33 and boot up in 3.71 pops.
3.90M33-3: Use the popsloader designed for 3.80 m33 to boot up in 3.71 pops. -anthall1991
4.01: Some attacks sound odd but other than that it runs flawlessly. -anthall1991 The first Rocket cinema upon meeting Cid and/or the Gold Saucer date scene may freeze the game. Other FMVs might freeze as well. I'm getting the freezes consistently, anthall1991 is not, and we are both running 4.01 M33-2. If you get this freeze, switch down to 3.71 to get past the cinema. -Tzepish
4.01 M33-2: Some scenes cause pixelation like unreadable text and wrong colors.-blindreaper
5.00: Starting a New Game causes the game to hang endlessly. -Tzepish

I gave up. I just used CWCheat, exported my saves. Loaded up ePSXe to skip the blue wizard spikey staff scene flower girl animation. Then save just before Ultimate Weapon fight. Then import back into PSP using CWCheat.
WTF? My saves file changed name. It used to be called SCEVMC0.VMP, SCEVMC1.VMP,... but after the CWCheat import, the files renamed to MEMCARD1.DAT MEMCARD2.DAT... how strange?!?!?

CWcheat didn't do that, popsloader did. MEMCARD.DAT is the format that Sony used to use, so whenever you switch to a very old pops it's automatically converted to the old format.

if you crash in the cave with the waterfall-bubble-thing with the movie playing in there, you have an illegal version that was released just before the official game release iirc. It does not work properly as it was not the final game. So go buy it ;)

I've been getting this issue as well.
Back on 3.90 M33, using pops 3.71 I could get through the entire game just fine... but now on 5.00 M33, using 3.71 pops I get the endless hang at that cutscene. Any suggestions?

I read your post, I just assumed you were joking or something (sorry). I own FF7 and have completed it on PSP before, so I'm pretty sure I'm not playing some sort of pirate version. Maybe it has to do with what program I used to convert it to a PSP eboot? I believe I used RS-GUI PopStationMD v3.0, but it's been awhile.

re-rip your original discs (not burnt copies, the original psx discs) with imgburn or alcohol 120%, and convert with psx2psp, then try again

Whoops, sorry it took so long for me to get back to you, but it worked! Thanks. I guess imgburn and PSX2PSP were the magic ticket.
