View Full Version : Xbox 360 Console Firmware Updates .. Should They Be Avoided .. ?

High guys .. So I have a question for all the 360 techies here :D ..

I just bought a pre-modded Xbox 360 3 days ago, and I've tested out a decent amount of backups on it, and they all seem to play fine ..

anyways, the problem is that when I slip in a backup of Soul Calibur 4, I get a message that I need to update the firmware of the 360 Console, NOT the game .. The 360 won't let me play the game, unless I update ..

The above also happens when I try to sign into Xbox LIVE .. I again get a message to update my 360's firmware, otherwise I cannot sign-in ...

Should I go ahead with this update ?? I am asking from a backup-playing point of view ... Will this update possibly reverse the backup playing DVD firmware hack currently working in my 360 ??

Or will it get my 360 banned when I sign in Xbox LIVE ??

Help needed ... Thanx in advance guys .. :)

EDIT:

This is the message I get when I try to play Soul Calibur 4 ..:

LOADS of threads on this but...

Basically its nothing like the PSP. It wont stop your backups from playing.
Its a simple as this:

Update - You can then play the backup and sign on to XBL. Also you COULD get banned from XBL if your disk aren't fully stealthed. (read up on dvdmulleter for this)

Dont Update - You cant play any backups that require an update. You cant sign on to XBL.

Don't be silly, if he removes the stickers then he will forget which features it has and then it will be harder to have a DW over it.

OK, so here is an update ... My original problem was that whenever I tried the following three things, I was asked to apply an update:

1) Soul Calibur 4
2) Unreal Tournament 3
3) Xbox LIVE

So I decided to go ahead with the update contained in the Soul Calibur 4 disc .. Now, I can play Soul Calibur 4 and Unreal Tournament 3 fine, when I am *still* being asked to perform *another* update, when I try to sign into Xbox LIVE ..... Doesn't this sound fishy to anyone ??

my wii nearly got bricked from an update. when i put a game in it said that the modification software needs to be updated and could result in your console being unuseable.thats y i had to download wii brick blocker

wii updates are completely different to 360, don't even try and compare, i use brick blocker on all my games, whether they are PAL or not, the fact is they still play, with the 360, you can't just ignore the update if it is required to play the game, or block it for that matter, no update = no game play, simple really!

the fact it was already stated above the same situation about the psp

updates for wii only brick your console if your using a update from a different region

360 updates aren't region coded
