A BlockBuster video employee who also got the same memo that we reported on yesterday has e-mailed us some further information about the 40GB PS3 price drops. Firstly, the 40GB bundle includes the system itself, Spider Man 3 movie, Transformers game, HDMI cable, media remote and 12 weeks of free Blu-ray rentals (movie or game, once per week). Also this bundle is priced at $459.99 and this isn't an official deal from Sony, rather something Blockbuster took it upon themselves to organize.

Here's what Buckey mailed us...

I'm a blockbuster employee in NY and I got the same memo but the PS3 40 gig bundle is actually 459.99 not 399.99.

the bundle has the 40 gig system,spider-man 3 the movie, transformers the game,6 ft hdmi cable, media remote, and 12 weeks of free blu-ray rentals (movie or game, once weekly)

A game, a movie, an HDMI cable? sony should take into consideration this move and come out with a bundle of their own like this. They talk about the PS3 experience and so on and so forth, well with a bundle such as this PS3 owners can have everything they need to start right out of the box. They would need to make the price somewhat accessible though, still I think it could help them.

There is a big different between price cut and deal. Of course the 40GB is cheaper consider is being phase out and replacing by the 80GB. As a smart consumer I wouldnt paid for a PS3 that lack of backward capability period. Then again if you are a light gamer and want a blu-ray player be my guess. Also like i mentioned before chance of having a price cut on the PS3 are slim to none consider the strong ip line up from Sony(LBP, Socom, Resistance2, Motorstorm2 and KZ2). The only reason Sony might have any kind of lower price offer/deal(still cant see the price cut on console itself) if M$ made a special deal with console and GOW2 purchase like they did with GTA4.
