just got a 360 with iXtreme 1.4 so i'm a bit new to this. i have a few questions regarding playing original xbox games on it.

do i need some kind of update from microsoft to begin with?
what kind of media should i burn xbox(original system) games to? can i use single layer dvds?

well you can download the newest compatability update from ms, and then burn it and play the disc on ur 360 to update it, or you can just update it from live.

if you have a samsung 360 drive, then yes with the right firmware you can play/burn single layer xbox games, if you have any other drive then you have to burn it to a dual layer disc.

i mean i notice alot of original xbox games are dl anyway.

far as which discs, verbatim all the way man.

good luck.

even though you want to know about xbox on xbox360 all i can say is,just buy an xbox that can play backups as it will be less hassle in the future.

ye there what £30 from most places now and you can buy a softmod kit for £20

plus you'll be able to use XBMC, probably the best media centre available for the price

thanks for the replies.
so i have my panzer dragoon orta iso file which is 2.88 GB. when i open with xdvdmulleter it says it is an xbox 1 iso and under xtreme compatibility this shows up:

video partition present [ ]
video data present [ ]
security sector present [ ]
PFI present [ ]
DMI present [ ]
random padding [x]
iXtreme compat. [ ]

will this work if i just burn it to a dual layer disc?

also i did the rebuild iso "dvd9 with zeroed padding" and got a 6.92 GB iso. however under xtreme compatibility this is the result:

video partition present [x]
video data present [x]
security sector present [x]
PFI present [x]
DMI present [ ]
random padding [ ]
iXtreme compat. [ ]

neither of the isos say it is iXtreme compatible. anyone mind helping me figure this out?

btw, i have the hitachi drive. the game is listed as supported on 360 at xbox.com too.
