LONDON – 16th September 2008 - Imagine if friends and families had the ability to instantly watch movies and share pictures, live out their musical fantasies through “Lips” (iNiS Corp./Microsoft Game Studios) and “Rock Band” (Harmonix/MTV Games) and star in their own Hollywood classics with “You’re in the Movies” (Codemasters/Microsoft Game Studios) — all from one console, starting at an estimated retail price (ERP) of only £129.99. That is the Xbox 360™, and Microsoft today announced the new lower ERP for its Xbox 360 family of consoles in Europe. Now with an entry-level ERP of £129.99 and offering a plethora of exciting and broad entertainment in the living room, Xbox 360 is the true home of mass market entertainment with something to offer for every interest and budget.

From Friday, 19th September, Xbox 360, which includes a 60GB hard drive and one wireless controller, will have an ERP of £169.99. The new ERPs are part of Microsoft’s ongoing strategy to open up the ultimate in high-definition gaming and entertainment to an even wider audience, with something for everyone. A major part of this strategy is a new Xbox LIVE online experience coming to Europe this autumn that will reinvent home entertainment from the inside out, with a bold new look and feel that is fun, social and simple to use. It’s the first time in history that a mass market consumer electronics device has been reinvented through free software, changing the way we play games, watch movies, and even become contestants in game shows. Along with the new Xbox experience, the Xbox 360 platform is offering a stunning games portfolio for all ages and interests this Christmas, with new titles for music lovers, family-friendly games, and exciting blockbuster titles for the committed gamer.

“Xbox 360 has now sold over 20 million consoles worldwide and due to its unprecedented success, we are now able to pass on the rewards of that success to the consumer with a new retail pricing from £129.99”, said Neil Thompson, Senior Regional Director, Microsoft UK. “With more games, more entertainment with Xbox LIVE and now even more value, we are looking forward to welcoming more customers into the leading Next Generation console, Xbox 360.”

With the Arcade now £50 and the Pro £10 cheaper than the Wii, it'll be interesting what effect this will have on the market.

According to the rumored release schedule, the serial number you want is (last 5 of the serial) 833xx or better.

8 = Year of manufacture
33 = Week of that year
xx = lot number (not really important)

Man with those prices i'm tempted to get myself a new 360 if I can get my hands on a Jasper model that it is. I've never really had a heat issue but the possible reduced noise makes it tempting.

Wow £50 cheaper than the Wii, and £10 for the Premium, The Elite seems too expensive in comparison, they really need to double the HDD to make it worth the extra £60.

And to Appleseed, M$ never admit to leaked information until they are ready to anounce it themselves.

Always when I see something about a price reduction in Europe it tells me the prices in pounds. Doesn't anybody know Europe is paying with the Euro nowadays, or does it only count for Great Britain? (which actually always gets ripped of since their money is much more valuable)

good news, but it shows signs of desperation, don't get me wrong, but they just recently announced a price drop (if i remember it right it was either in Leipzig or E3 08).. and less than a month (or 2 months in E3's case) later, they announce another price drop.. of £50..

Microsoft despair.

Too many price cuts very close.

I have a déjà vu!!! HD-DVD price cuts before his death.

I think that in Europe and Japan xbox360 is already dead, and next year will die in USA.

fps shut up ur talking crap as usual.

Right maths time.
UK ps3 80gig £299.99 or UK 360 60gig £169.99 add around £30 for 12 months live (£30 round figure as i know you can get it for far cheaper) add wireless adaptor (not that you need one) £60 = £259.99. Lets be honest here the games for both consoles are not that much different in terms of quality and quantity.
So in todays climate of Parents trying to cut costs and xmas approaching fast this could put a serious dent into PS3 sales in the UK which by all accounts are pretty good, and if they do the same in Europe and the US then Sony are in for what could be a serious kick in the teeth for the Xmas period. Yes i know Sony have some excellent games due for release (i have 2 of them on pre-order :)) but the 360 has a pretty good line up to look forward too as well over the next few months too.

SO NO PRICE CUT ON THE REST OF EUROPE ? Are they really crazy ? I mean it really sells just in uk with no japan an almost all europe i really wonder how they do think to survive now that ps3 is outselling x360 in north america too,I had to buy a x360 arcade but ll w8 till they cut retail prices in the rest of europe too ! Wonder bout the new boards on arcade versions too....

Or they really want mass market adoption, as ultimately once you achieve that you can become very profitable ala PS2.

I see hardly a mass adoption if in Europe they dont cut theirs prices and the only place where the x360 sells in Europe is uk....Japan is long time gone they give up after Blue Dragon where do they think to go ?

look, according to your logic they want to turn that thing profitable 'ala PS2'.. THERE IS NO FUCKING POSSIBLE WAY TO DO THAT BY _JUST_ PRICEDROPS.. don't get me wrong, but in a company, a price drop for their product is introduced ONLY if the sales don't go smoothly or if the product is getting old.. (in this case its the sales) (there are other reasons, but these are the main two reasons).. why did you think Sony announced price drop? the 360 was getting outsold in the US as well then.. now its pretty hard for Sony to outsell them unless they introduce a price cut as well..

no matter what anyone wants to say the xbox 360 STILL pisses over the ps3 at the minute. As other have posted the games are near identical on both console with less issues on the 360 (ie installing taking up drive space, wireless issues, non existant games, a fw update EVERY few weeks/mopnths etc etc) they only thing letting the 360's down WAS the RROD which should be addressed now.

Cmon prices from £129 for an amazing console like this, its a no brainer!
