View Full Version : Kojima: Killzone 2 controls are rushed... maybe
Speaking in a recent interview, Hideo Kojima admitted that he played Killzone 2 and found it funny as it used a traditional FPS control and then suddenly you had to use the SIXAXIS to open a door in the game but nobody was succeeding in doing so. From this perspective he speculates that they "were kind of rushing to implement the technical design, which might not be the correct way to do it in that title."
For some players, motion control will come naturally straight away, but for others it might feel difficult, so the game designer is really now responsible to think about which direction he or she should take. I played Killzone 2 this morning, actually, and it was funny because the FPS control was traditional FPS, but when you come to a door and have to kind of open the latch, you all of a sudden have to use the Sixaxis, and nobody was succeeding. So maybe they were kind of rushing to implement the technical design, which might not be the correct way to do it in that title.

I'm pretty sure I heard one of the dev's or producers say all Sixaxis controls could be turned off in one of the video interviews.

I don't think the word "Rushed" and "Killzone 2" belong in the same sentence. They have taken their sweet ass time developing the game and have hyped it up, they have no excuses at this point.
I can't help but feel this isn't going to be as great as they are hyping it up (very typical nowadays).
Whatever happened to the good 'ole days where video games spoke for themselves?

if those games you mentioned were xbox360 exclusives they would easly get 10/10 but the standards are so much highier on ps3 thats why they didn't get much attention. :)

Now you are just talking out of your ass. Unless you are being extremely sarcastic and did not reference it.
Ratings don't mean sh!t dude. I was strictly talking about the gameplay.

Don't like the idea of having to use motion controls to open doors. In fact, I don't like the idea of having to use motion controls in any PS3 game. Just does not work.

I hope Guerilla takes his comments seriously as he IS the dude who knows what he is talking about.
An a non Sony employee playing a Sony exclusive game? Wow, he must be extremely important in Sony's plan. Sony might as well just buy Kojima Productions.

Oooo good one. Actually it's bertha if you must know.
However you didn't deny it so there is a good possibility I was right.
Welcome back LeetHaxor. Looking forward to more "I love Sony and want to have it's children" posts from you. We all know and are aware that Sony can do NO wrong in your eyes. Ahhhhh to be blind.... (awaiting a Xbots retort...)

It's funny how so many people are criticizing Kojima for his constructive criticism. He's trying to improve the game by telling him what's wrong--which is one little thing.

moron. Oh well, THIS stupid bots is going to enjoy reading more of your "Sony can do no wrong posts" and then watch you get flamed at.
I just wanted to confirm the connection. In fact I think I pointed it out the last time you added another name to the forum and said comments like this. Especially when you started answering your own comments and acting like it was two people. When the whole time it was you doing both users, until everyone started to figure it out and the admin deleted your second user name......wow.... Welcome back Leet....
Anyway thanks for the confirmation......

control is extremely important for a game. I think Kojima should charge them, for consultancy fees.
no Kojima games has been critized for having crappy control.

Hey now, Lair wasn't completely bad! :P.
No thats true, that would be unfair to completely bad games, even with the analogue controls it handles extremely badly. Noone I know can be bothered to try and play it past the first 2 levels simply because either the motion controls controlls are awfull, or the analogue ones feel like they want you to use motion controls instead instead (which you still have to in many cases). I bought it as I liked the old factor 5 starwars games for a quick pick up and play blast, so didn't think the reviews could be that right, especially as it now has analogue support, I was so wrong. I keep it now to remind me not to get PS3 games with motion control as the main control in feature, if I think it can't be that bad I will put lair on for 5 minutes.
Anyway, I have no doubt the motion controlls will be of use to somthing, but forcing them into games that don't need them and to use them to any degree in anything that requires precision is just a bad idea all around. The only game that has half decent support is motorstorm and that isn't that great. I was nearly put off playing mario kart on the wii as i expected it to be the same, but all it did in the end is show me that sixaxis motion control is more of a gimic and not really a proper controll method beyond the shake the pad stuff. I think that given the low take up by devs show that, much like the preasure sensetive buttons, it's not really that usefull. I'd rather see PSP intergration into PS3 games over motion control as at least that can be used as more than a gimic.

Thats because Japanese are using that configuration. And if you follow MGS series, you should have gotten used to it by now ;)

The most underated games ever and to me better than the MGS series, I hope they make a third.
Kojima has earned the right to speak his mind. Constructive critism is a good thing when done the right way.
ZOE3 is on the way apparantly.

as someone that turned his back on sony, i have to say that mgs will everytime wipe the floor with any killzone game. Kojima is right, and his mgs4 will be the only that i buy a used ps3 in a few years for.

sheesh, i musvte been the only person to finish lair then. i got it from gamefly last year i believe, and i was worried bout the controls too after the reviews.but honestly,it wasnt bad at all. i got to finish the game.i actually liked it. i think the trick is with the sixaxis(i agree its not a great control scheme),be calm and move your hands fluidly. you cant just jerk your hand up, down(:D)uhhm, left and right, and expect precise controls. calm and steady and you will see how accurate the sixaxis controls are on this game. well now they have dpad controls for it now via patch.i thought the gfx, music, and story was pretty good.thats just my opinion.:p
