I have a PSPslim with CFW 4.01 M33-2. I have been playing my backed up .cso games for some time now about a year or so and I just starting have this problem. During game play at random moments the "Do you want to quit the game?" screen appears. It's as if I am pressing the Home button every few seconds. I was having this problem when I was at CFW 3.90 M33-2 and I thought that upgrading to 4.01 M33 would help but it hasn't. Does anyone have any thoughts about what might be wrong? Everything physically on the device is good. I did not drop or get the psp wet. Please help

Just adding more info I get the same issue when I play my UMD games as well. Looks like it maybe a hardware issue. I would really hate to crack this thing open.

maybe the button is loose or something, was it like this since you bought it? and are you sure you've never opened it? because I get kinda the same problem because I opened it once and I lost all the screws so the faceplate isnt secured tightly so my joystick automatically goes down when I play a game or when im online the cursor goes down. so maybe you might need to open it and see whats up there...or it could be some kind of a software problem..

It never did this when I first bought it. I am thinking that maybe it was banged around in my backpack a little too much. But i am afraid of opening it up and just making the problem worst.

well really you wont be making anything worse than it already is unless you have clumsy hands but thats besides the point lol just make sure the sticky tape like thing that has the button sensors is clean and nothing is interfering with it or anything i guess

PLUGiNS !
Are your VSH.txt, GAME.txt and POPS.txt setup correctly ?
It sounds unlikely (yea, I know) But I think I had a simular issue once with this (If I goto Recovery/Plugins) They would look mashed up ?!
I had some plugins show up on the same line as another and I would see (Enable)(Disbable) wTF ?!
Upon opening them on my PC they were set up like:
ms0:/seplugins/capture.prx (HAD SOME SPACES BEFORE THE NEXt LINE)
ms0:/cxmb/cxmb.prx
(Check you don't leave any space(s) here either)
Check you don't have any space(s) after the .prx
(Just add your next plug on the next line)
Do this, Edit and Save.
Also if that makes no difference, try disbaling ALL your plugins.
Play and test for it a while, if it stops (auto pressing home) then we have found the problem.
Start enabling your plugins one at a time to try and find the exact culpret.
Let us know if this is indeed the problem and if so, which plugin that was causing the problem.
Thanks..

I'll give it a shot. I'll check out the forums for taking it apart. And let you know how it went. Thanks.

Ok, I didn't take it apart. And I took your advise BigGanja. I looked at all my plugins and found a space after one of the lines. I got rid of it, tested it out on a few games and so far no problem. :) I can't believe that work! Thank you so much!! I need my psp in top shape cuz i will be taking the bus to and from work and this is going to be my main source of media. :D:D:D:D

I do appreciate you wanting to help, it was also a nice illustration of what can go wrong with opening your PSP, but please watch the advice you give to others, you must consider the question asked.
He had already said:
I have a PSPslim with CFW 4.01 M33-2. I have been playing my backed up .cso games for some time now about a year or so and I just starting have this problem
So it couldnt have:
maybe the button is loose or something, was it like this since you bought it? and are you sure you've never opened it?
If he didn't get the button wet or stuck and the issue has only just started then it must must be something else.
Anyway....
When you put your analog stick back the key is to try and get the pins (on the bottom of the analog - on the faceplate) not to cross any of the contacts on the board. I believe that if you replace the screws and replace the faceplate with care you should be good to go again.
Also to note, try pressing the opposite direction (up?) when your faceplate analog contacts touch the contacts on the board.
Try these (http://www.thegametrain.com/psp-full-replacement-screw-set-p-540.html?zenid=2nn1m2kkrm12qrllen8id0csg3) ;)
I hope you get to fix your psp :)

yeah my bad man but thanks for the link! yeah Ima try to get it working again lolz and the thing is if I hold it down the face plate the cursor doesnt move again so theres no damage at least to anything it just needs to be secured tightly, so I'm probably going to buy some screws one of these days lol
thanks again :D

PLUGiNS !
Hi ..
I been searching all over the internet for the similar sort of a problem i had been facing and was mighty glad that somebody had the solution.
Only problem now is that I never had any plugins !
The symptoms of the problem are Exactly the ones stated by the thread starter and i did suspected some problem with the contact points inside, but the games run jst fine off my mem stick.
I even went overboard and was next to breaking up the psp while getting into a frenzied testing of the buttons but nothing happened while playing the mem stick games.
So the problem is not h/w related .. that has been estd.
Wen i searched for the .prx files.. only two showed up and they were in the "snes9xTYL" folder:
1) mediaengine.prx
2) homehook.prx
The problem disappears wen i keep the psp away and is not in usage for a few days but becomes really nagging with reg usage.
AT NO POINT THE MEM STICK GAMES LEAD ME TO THE YOU WANNA QUIT GAME Screen.
i was contemplating that maybe i ll delete the snes9xTYL folder altogether and see if that helps.. but that wd be a desp. situation.
Any soln for the problem guys ..?
EDIT: Running CFW 3.90 m33-3 on a PSP 2000 series.
