Okay, so...I have tried searching and searching and I have yet to find anything about PSP (phantasy star portable,) as far as like walkthroughs and what not. So, what I am going to do is start a small guide to help people with getting through the game, (until the US version hits.)

I have the full game and with my limited knowledge in Japanese and common sense I was able to figure out what everything is. It can be quite intimidating to see a butt load of kanji and not know what the hell is going on. There is a menu guide but I can't seem to find it.

I will also place the kanji with what ever it is that needs to be translated.

NOTE: There is no way in hell I can translate the conversations in story mode.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
So the first thing I will put out there is that playing through multimode is the same as story mode. Any character you have met in story mode will be available to be placed into your party in Multimode.

(Your maid, is probably the strongest. They use every weapon and when their health is down they pretty much heal everyone.)

Everything you pick up, find, steal, and kill for can be carried over to storymode.

The great thing about multimode is that you don't have to worry about conversations. So just slice and dice everything.

(BTW to get into party mode. Switch your wifi thingy on. Choose the first option. There will be the connection screen. Then two options. Choose the first that says "パーティ-プレイをKANJI" {lol sorry} then pick はい which is the first option. You will start in your room. Scroll to the bottom and click that to exit your room. [room info below description of multimode])

More stages open as you level up and complete missions. The missions that are highlighted as orange require you to have more than one person in your party. PLEASE NOTE: That other party member has to be an actual person. Not cpu. I did one of these missions with the idea that I could take a cpu. Well...it didn't work out that way. You see, if you remember back in the PSO days there were these red circles that people had to stand on in order for you to open a door. The same rule applies here except that it is necessary in order for you to progress through the stage.

It is pretty much the same as PSO except for the attacking. (Sorry I didn't play PSU, I may be a little late.) You can attack alot faster and you have more mobility.

square and triangle are your attacking buttons.(Triangle does a special attack that uses PP The more you use it the flashier it can get.

X button brings up the menu to switch weapons on the fly.

O is to pick up things.

RTrigger is for when you have a pistol and sword. You press and hold this so that you can shoot.

LTrigger is for locking on. You have to hold it in order to keep the lock on...locked on. You circle around your enemy with this on.

Select button allows for free aim if you have a projectile weapon.

Menus---------------------------------------------------------------
I know that there is a menu faq out there, but I don't remember what it covered. I think it was just inventory and options. If I find it I will add link. I just want to help you navigate through to get to some fun.

***My Room***
First option is for Drop Box.
-Drop item in
-Take out item
-戻る (Which is Return, or Go back) This most of the time the last choice

**second option which says ドレッシングルーム。**
Is your dressing room. (You can buy clothes now. Unlike PSO where you had to save up 10,000meseta to change the color.)

**The next option and the one after**
The next is just a help menu....not much help in Japanese though.
The one after has to do with your partner. The maid. I didn't mess with this yet so give me some time.

**ガーディアンズ コロニー** This is the guardian colony menu.

(ミッションカウンター)First is the mission counter, as in countertop.
(This is missions for the Guardian colony ONLY) These are not the only missions in the game.

(ショップ) This is for all your shopping needs. I have yet to test all of these out but here is a rough list and what there is to get. In this order it is...

-Weapons (Left is for weapons, Right is for the Triangle PP attack.)

-Armor

-Items

-PMグッズ (Changes your PM...I guess it means Personal Maid. It is the person in your room.)

-エステ(I can't pronounce it to get meaning but this is where you change your appearance, voice, hair, etc. I dunno if it is when you first start off but they have the classic force and ranger hats, as well as 10 plus new hair styles. Kinda cool.)

-服 (this is for clothes or garments. Left for women, Right for men. No mixing! Honest, you can't do it. Go ahead and try.)

-パーツ(Parts) for you Casts out there. I haven't played around with my Cast character to know what this is about so bare with me.

-Last option (all that damn kanji) is for making your weapons stronger with your grinders.

***************(That's all for shopping)

The next option is マイルーム。 (That goes back to first menu description.)

The last option is......(drum roll) 惑星間移動。(Took me a looooong time to translate this to direct translation.) It means movement between planets. there is no need for me to write it in hiragana. This is where the bread, butter, cookies, cakes, pies, everything is that makes this game so awesome. The menus are pretty much the same for each planet.

Mission
Shop
Move between planets.

***For Missions

click first option
Choose mission.
Have Fun.

(This pretty much all I wanted to do. If you need help with translation or what me to post something I didn't touch on. PM, and post here and I will get back as soon as possible.)

UPDATE Parts below
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Due to request I will be posting up info about the character creation menu. Please note that anything you do to your character can be changed in the エステ shop. (Which is mentioned above.) With that said, shall we begin?

I am not in the mood at the moment to place down the kanji. That may come at a later date when I am not so tired...

So the first selection is choosing the type of being you are. (going right)

first is human.

Second is Numan

Casto (I think that is cast) The robots

Then you have beast. (remind me of ctarl ctarl. they transform too lol.)

Next you decide between male and female.

(If I am not mistaken each character being has different plus and minuses. I will definitely find out what they are because I like to experiment.)

The next two choices are to proceed to the next screen or return to previous screen. (In that order.)

(Proceed) I am just gonna list the things you change in the order they come.

face

Face again but changes eyes and cheek bones

Pupils

eyebrows

Eyelashes

ears lol

Hair (d pad to change hair style, thumb stick to change color)

Body suit (You are just changing the color. no nakedness here)

Skin tone

Proportions (big butt so what. Fat dudes, short robots, whatever you like.)

Proceed------------------------------------------------------------

Jacket (sift through colors and jacket types)

Pants (same as above)

shoes (style over function)

Voice (Better make it count)

Voice pitch (Nothing better than a deep voice hot human hunter girl.....)

Proceed------------------------------------------------------------
Name.

職業 (couldn't help it. This is your occupation. )
-first is Hunter (The tanks)
-ranger (long range dudes. Really fun in PSO)
-force (mages. Magic kills fast.)
(To change your type to the higher rank type, you must fulfill the requirements and unlock the "change type" option in story mode. )

Example: I was a hunter and when I wanted to get master fighter I need to be a lvl 7 hunter. I was a lvl 10 hunter for a long time until I started playing through story mode and after the like...third mission or so you unlock it.

You can only change it in story mode.

Your type lvl and actual lvl are two different things. Finish a mission and you will see.

Proceed-------------------------------------------------------------
Next is your helper. You can add them to your team when on multimode and storymode missions.

Name

and type (I think that each type has its own uniqueness. I only choose one. I sometimes do style over function. sorry. )

Choose the option after the type and it is going to ask if you want to save the character file.

Choose the first option... Next when you choose the slot it was ask if you want to save in that spot. Pick the top option, which is the first, but they select no for safety of that spot.

Choose your mode and have fun.

(My first helpful guide...hopefully helpful.)

PS If you can't get Phantasy star Portable (Full game) to work, it is because you have to convert it from CSO to ISO...which sucks because it comes to a 1GB and some change. -jingle jingle-

I know it's kinda late, but how about explaining what all those 'book' type objects you can buy do... I have no idea. Something to do with giving a weapon a special move?

I think they edited the button configurations for the english version, where:
X=pick up
O=open quick change menu
These were the only things different so far, but you never know.
And yes the different "maids" have different abilities (one stays back as a mage, another is a brawler, etc.)
As for switching types, is it possible to go from a hunter to ranger(or force)?
