Access the USA PSN Video Store with EU located PS3

After watching E3 live via a friends stream I heard about the New Video Store for PS3 Owners. It sounded amazing and I planned to purchase content. However the days past and the news comes that its not available to us EU based PS3 owners!

Anyway cutting to the chase, it pissed me off and most of the people I know. Others and I tried the simple basic network concept of Proxy but as you should know it was a FAIL.

So yeah, 3 days of hacking at kernels and other wonderful protocols in the stack I managed to get my PS3 to connect to the USA Video store and browse movies. I am almost certain that with the right details for the credit card, the purchase would be successful and I could watch the said content. Ive yet to use the paypal one use credit card yet… I understand that works for buying content from other countries stores on the PSN)

I have to now retrace the 3 days worth of positive progress and write it up for those who are interested in doing it….. but no matter how conveluted it is I am just showing that it is possible and you dont have to wait untill 2009 to access any sort of video store on the PSN.

I would also guess this would work for an XBOX 360 owner with regional content issues.

I can't believe this took 3 days to figure out lol. The first night it went live I was able to view all content via a American account setup on my ps3, with the option to purchase any content via a online virtual credit card setup with EntroPay.
I just don't see this being a big thing at all with the hundreds of torrent trackers out there. I bet thousands of people are downloading the just released Batman: The Dark Knight movie as you read this (crappy cam but bet they are).

Just create a American psn account on your ps3. Simple mate.

It is not as simple as that at all. Yeah you can successfully create a US PSN account, but the Video tab will not be present if you live outside of the US.

Its not that simple, i have had an US account for about a year now. Still cant se videotab.
The banner to the left in the newsfield (whatever its called) doesent do anything when i press X on it.

The funny thing is that in the main screen of the American PSN on the slim stripe with the changing games commercials, sometimes shows up the anime for download. You can pick it up and rent it for 3USD even if you are in Europe. So they protected their video store, but they let us buy selected titles :P.

Oh, and I've tried american proxy. Didn't worked for me...

unfortunately if it was as simple as a proxy I wouldnt have wasted my days working it out.

To proxy SSL to auth.dl.ap.playstation.net would be protocol illegal and known as a "man in the middles attack". I use no proxies in this solution.

But working out the bits is what took the time. A technically minded will see it as simple as a completed solution.

Purchasing will work.

A mate in the USA with a ISP and linux / windows server would be able to do this in no time.

I had to go to school to learn stuff like that, and I also wouldnt have known to do it that way without having a ps3 and being able to screw with the network connection. Plus, since alot of us here are stuck in the hell hole of america, we wouldnt have to do this.

Exactly! Those retards that replied with the 'so what' type comments about have no clue what they are talking about. To access content on the US Video Service requires not only a US PSN account, but an ability for your to make your connection appear to be US-based. Then you will need a pre-pay mastercard with no attached address (so it validates for all addresses) such as IDT Prime, available form your local off-license. So to the fools, stop polluting the forums with your ill-informed posts!
