Now I am not a newbie first of all but I am having a complete nightmare with a Benq drive (Man Aug 07)VAD6038.

I have done loads before with my VIA 6421 PCI card with no hassles, samsungs as well.

Got this Benq that just hangs at 0x73 Reading Bank........0.

Tried dosflash, updating drivers, Sata ports on Mobo also Via but nothing. Any ideas at all anyone...

I had one of those before and what I did was that when it hung at 0 I turn it off and on again and it will start reading. you may wanna try that.
also I tried removing the sata cable from the xbox and when I plugged back in it worked.

good luck.

Get the drive key, ditch the BenQ, and get a Toshiba-Samsung. Unless you're planning to play with it for only 4 hours a month with conflict-diamond-coated dual layer discs, the laser will weaken after a month of playing backups and you're stuck watching textures pop up on most, if not all of your games.

i thought benq is meant to be the best of all the drives?

That's the most retarded thing I've ever heard. Don't listen to this guy. You're lucky to have a BenQ.

thats main thing.if you got a drive that can play your backups the way you want them tp play and run.also if the drive sounds the way you want it,thats what matters.i like any drive that is hackable and plays backups.
;)

I agree the one that is hackable makes it all worth it.

Good luck and ask questions.

The current hacked Benq firmware is slow as ****, and noisy. If you compare it to the stock firmware, or the hacked Samsung firmware, the Samsung blows it away.

C4EVA needs to work on the media detection code in the Benq firmware. I took out my Benq drive for an MS25.

I have my BenQ flashed with 12x Firmware. A little noisy but i see no difference from original firmware.

No, it's not. Live in denial if you wish. Have you tested multiple drives? Many after AfterDawn and Xbox-Scene have come to the same conclusion. See for yourself

OK firstly i presume your the doom6 guy on that forum did you read the other pages?
Firstly the OP was before the 1.41 firmware came out. After th 1.41 people were having problems with GTA4, like yourself. The vast majority of people having a problem was those running GTA without a HDD. I have a BenQ Elite, flashed with 1.41 and GTA runs flawlessly. I have over 30 hours game time as well so its been well used.

Stop cussing BenQ drives on the fact that 1 game doesnt work properly on some peoples drives.

Also, myself and others have experiences issues with Bioshock's intro movie skipping, and the drive seeking like mad on it. I've experienced it first hand; my Samsung loads everything far quicker.

Lol, i can definitely confirm the bioshock 2k games intro and into the old phonograph sputters sometimes, but other times it plays it perfectly.

i have a benq an thought it was a bad burn or soemthing lol.

also the load times even on 12x are nothing nice when loading a new level or a game save.

the things mentiond in this thread are true for benq drives, maybe not all but i'd say most are loud, and have that prob with bioshock and probably gta4 but i don't have that game.

and about graphical issues/textures, i can also confirm that's true, back when i was playing blacksite there was some sort of odd looking line of texture in the corner of the screen sometimes, but the game played fine.

but overall the drive still works pretty good, only other drive i'd rather have is a sammy.
