Latest weekly sales figures for the UK reveal that MGS 4 has been knocked off the top of the overall UK sales charts by LEGO Indian Jones: Original Adventures. Alone in the Dark, GTA IV and Wii Play complete the top five spots.

didnt cod4 still do better on 360 compared to mgs4 on ps3? youd think a huge exclusive like mgs4 would have more sales then a game thats on both 360 and ps3 (careful how you read this) and im not talking overall, im talking its first week.
its stillll sad ps3 owners cant accept that ps3 games sell like trash.

According to what I have heard from sony, one reason MGS4 can't be on other platforms is Blu-Ray. Oh well!

Yeah fill that 50gb with hours and hours of High Def cutscenes and have about 5 hours gameplay. Yeah that sure does sound like magic to me too.

Of course it can be done on 360. I am really enjoying the game and all but i haven't seen anything that couldn't be done on the 360, not by a longshot. Also i haven't seen anything that came out on the 360 that couldn't be done on the ps3...
About the blu-ray... The only advantage is space per disk, the key is per disk! A multiple disk on 360 is nothing new and it would be a lot faster to exchange disks then to wait for Snake to smoke 3 cigarettes while we wait for the stupid mandatory installs in each chapter...
Mandatory installs that you have to wait vs multiple disks and play as soon as you exchange it? Multiple disks every day!(and i am the laziest person i know so don't come up with the BS hooo but we have to stand to change it...)

The cut-scenes are live rendered, so they shouldn't take all that much space. However, they are so fucking awesome.

One of these days some dev is gonna make a game that's totally pre-rendered cutscenes with just maybe a button press to choose a different route for the story to follow, call it a game and people would go crazy for it thinking it it's the best thing since sex.
Cutscenes don't make a game. If a game was all about cutscenes we would call Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children the best fucking game OF ALL TIME!!!

maybe if the disc didnt have ANY files mirrored and the disc wasnt dummied, as well as the files used a compression like just about every single dev out there does on anything but sony consoles.. it could fit on a much smaller medium. but because ps3 cant uncompress on the fly worth a ****, and the bluray is so ass slow a large medium like bluray is required. just because the ps3 makes good use of the large capacity, DOES NOT mean it is needed.

Of course games like MGS4 can be done on a 360. How many installs are there? Two? What's the difference between installing from one disc and installing from multiple discs like a PC. When your done, your just using one disc. Had there been no installs on the PS3, that would've made all the difference.

If you didn't know compression = longer load times. And why is everyone crying about these cut scenes? It's much better than reading dialogue for 200 hours or however many hours EA claimed on Mass Effect. Now that was annoying. I got it for the PC and deleted it after maybe 20 minutes into the game. Cut scenes aren't boring, some are but the ones in MGS4 aren't I watched EVERY single one, the best one was the last one at the room after the microwave hall.

Ironically for your argument the PS3 is better for uncompressing data as this is something Cell/SPE would be good at.
Mind you I'm sure MGS4 could be suppoerted on 360 it would just need multiple disks. I've also seen nothing on 360 that couldn't run perfectly well on PS3 with suitable code adjustments.

PCs can have Blu-Ray. Or they can just have more then one DVD. I seem to remember some very popular PS1 games that have like 4 discs.

i agree that mgs4 has long cutscenes but that is how the game is like, its mgs: long cutscenes: awesome game ( unless you never liked mgs before )

MGS is not a masterpiece. It is a over hyped average game with nice graphics. But good for you that you love it.

its 32gb not 50 compared to 9 ;)
and because of the far better speed of dvd you wouldnt need to duplicate parts of the data all over the disc to reduce seek times, with a little compresssion you'd easily get it on 2-3 discs, just like many previous mgs games.
and it wouldnt need a hard drive filling install either.

That's the most stupidest claim I've ever heard of. IMO Lego Indiana Jones appeals to everyone, MGS4 appeals to MGS fans only.
