View Full Version : Nintendo loading Firmware v3.3 onto repaired Wii's
Internet reports suggest tahat Nintendo is upgrading all repaired Wii's to version 3.3 firmware, you know the one that prevents the Twilight princess hack...
The last two days have been filled with conversation concerning the recent Wii update to firmware version 3.3. The update has Wii owners saying goodbye to the Twilight Princess hack, as well as Freeloader support. If you are an importer of games, but you need to have your Wii repaired…beware. When you get it back, you’ll be upgraded to version 3.3…whether you want to or not. Those with a big import library/Freeloaders have some hard decisions to make. Thanks to JJBro for the heads up.

This sucks. I was sending my Wii into Nintendo for repair but my brother has delayed it for over a month. :( I already paid too.

Hahaha, stupid Nintendo! I made it a point to try out the Homabrew Channel before installing the new firmware. If they never blocked the TP hack, I would have never started up on homebrew again... Idiots. Meh, I guess I should thank them; Quake on Wii is pretty freakin awesome. Nintendo should be glad that people are doing their work for them.

Okay BladeX, lets just for a moment imagine that someone comes along that has just got a Wii but is on 3.3 but has a drivechip
There is no way they can install HBC or any other homebrew because they can't run Trucha signed discs and they can't use the TP hack. Until Bushing and co release a patched savegame they are screwed. Your telling people to use Gecko Region Free to run their Trucha discs is ridiculous if they can't evcen get GRF to run in the first place!
The amount of rubbish-posted-as-fact in this thread is truly staggering...

I think it'd be nice if a buffer overflow were found in the way Excitetruck handles custom MP3 soundtracks from the SD card.
I guess Bushing and TMBINC should start looking at any Gamecube port to see how they access save data from the memory card and look for a similar exploit before exhausting their options with TP (get Nintendo to give up). Put that USB Gecko back to work! ;)

And how, pray tell, are you going to execute Gecko Region Free without hbc, Trucha-signed disc, or the TP hack?

I'm pretty sure hackers should take full consideration of a backup loader...... considering the main reason for not creating one was so nintendo wouldnt block homebrew from the wii. i know that ths will increase the number of updates from nintendo, but as with the PSP, hackers can always find away around strengthened security....and besides, tell me if im wrong;), isn't installing WADs from the shop channel technically piracy and STEALING, i just don't see any major differences, and the WAD installers are probably the reason they are creating such updates.
*** i do NOT support piracy, but i fully support the backing up of someone's already owned games.
all i'm sayin is: if programmers are willing to make software tat has the ability to steal from the wii shop (not saying that's all that came from the Wad management apps), they should be willing to create a backup loader, which may also be able to load Homebrew ISO's.
