View Full Version : The impressive Bloom Box fails to sell 60,000 units
According to reports, the impressive title known as Bloom Blox failed to sell 60,000 units out of the Wii's installed based of 10.2 million. An NPD analyst has commented on the poor sales figures by indicating that the title just got lost within all the other great titles that were released such as GTA IV and Mario Kart. Thus a new IP such as Bloom Blox would always struggle to gain reputation.
To emphasize the sad, sad state of affairs for Boom Blox, 60K out of an installed base of 10.2 million is barely 0.6 percent of all Wii owners in America.
Update 2: Although EA has yet to comment, we've now heard from NPD analyst Anita Frazier, who suggested that Boom Blox just got lost in the shuffle of great games that have been released recently.
"It's still really hard for new IP to breakthrough the noise in the market, and there has been a lot of noise so far this year. Between Super Smash Bros. Brawl, GTA IV, Wii Fit, Mario Kart and the upcoming Metal Gear Solid 4 (to name a few), there have been some really high profile game releases. The game was really well reviewed so I'm suspecting the marketing just didn't break through the clutter to the extent that they were hoping for," she commented.

Wii game with reasonable ratings doesn't sell well, all sites report about it, scrambling to bring the news yet another 3rd party game does not sell on the Wii. Pretty sad imho.

No Steven Spielberg has helped with a puzzle game nobody would put their name on instead of what he should of done. It's already clear a puzzle/party game on the wii is likely to fail due to too many of them on the market and the demographic having the games they already want... nintendo ones.
Seriously do they honestly think family gamers moms and so on are going to pay £30 every time someone decides to fling crap the wii's way? Wake UP! it wouldn't of even sold in a flat month :p

It's obvious that this game doesn't sell well because Wii owners are pirates who play burned games :(
More likely that most realise that this game is just 'jenga' with some bad poetry thrown in.

And in Related news The Impressive Boom Blox game also failed to sell 60,000 units.
Thats because most people have probably never heard of it, there have been hardly any visible adverts, and reviews have not been good for it.
But there ya go

Name your game something like "Bloom Box" and that's what happens.

I like the use of the word "impressive" for a game that got bad reviews.
Though also have seen no real advertising of it so not going to get the attention of new gamers attracted to the wii when there are also cheaper budget releases out there too on the shop shelves.

the game was fun for a minute, sort of like a new age jenga but was lacking depth of game play, got repetitive after a while.

so most PS3 and 360 gamers say all wii gamers are kids, grandparents, and stay at home moms, but now all wii owners play pirated games? can't have it both ways, either wii gamers are savy enough to hack a wii and play backups, or they are children and old people.

I rented it just to see if I was going to buy it because it was getting such good reviews. The game is pretty fun, but I imagine it's quite short as I was able to get through 10% of the game in about an hour and that was with trying and getting gold medals on all the levels. I think I will buy it, but not until the price is reduced to around 20 bucks, and with these sales figures, that could be by the end of the summer.

I was a good game, but I think its lack of sales is more due to poeple not knowing about it and the fact that they charge $50 for it. Multiplayer its a great game, but still $50 for this game seems a bit much. Plus I still think it will have decent sales that will build with word of mouth. Most everyone that has played mine wants tyo get the game but dont think its worth the $50.
not to mention its hard for someone to just see an advertisement or hear it described and think its gonna be worth their time.

All i know is this game is the ****, Sales are poor simply because 0 advertisement and the fact that they are trying to sell this game for $50. 50 bucks is way to high for a title like this. But it is a great multiplayer /party game for a group of friends with hours of entertainment.
the impressive title known as Bloom Blox
Isn't it known as Boom Blox?

Getting through the single player is really only to unlock all the parts to build your own stages thats where a lot of the fun comes. It does take a little bit longer on the later levels to get all gold though. As for the price it should have been no more then $40 but $30 would have been that price that would have made it a great deal. If your not gonna play multiplayer though theres no real reason to buy the game. Its all about warlords.

Don't know why people say 0 advertisement, I see commercials for it all the time. But they are absolutely 100% geared towards children.

very sad! Because honestly I played more Boom Blox then I did Super Smash Brothers. This is a very innovative game and I I still play it, especially the create your own board and share with friends via Wifi.
Maybe EA could come up with new added levels via download from Wii-Ware, maybe that could re-spark peoples interest.

According to www.gamedaily.com Boom Blox did sell 60,000.

I guess maybe that the topic of this article on Maxconsole.com ment that it sold 60,000, but that it failed, or am i mistaken (correct me if i am wrong please :))?
I think this game might end up selling more over time so maybe it will be a bigger success, but we'll see :)

Surprising, something with Spielberg's name attached to it and it didn't sell well, doesn't happen often.
This is classic Nintendo console sales though, majority of games sold on the console are first party, for some reason third party games just don't sell as well.
And as for lack of advertising, I've seen plenty of adds for the game but in all honesty didn't really impress me that much...well the advert didn't anyway, only thing that stood out for me on this game was the fact Steven Spielberg endorsed it.

Speilberg had to compete with his own game too: Lego Indy. Which one do you think Speilberg fans would buy?
Boom Box looks like fun but I very rarely buy games for $50. SSBB was the only one so far this year.

This game wouldnt have sold well regardless of console it launched for. Yes there was advertising, but standerd advertising doesnt always reach the same audience on the wii. Not to mention its a hard concept to advertise and for people to not judge it to quickly.
Its a shame that there are not demos fro the wii it would really help sales for the system. For 3rd parties at least, since this is a system where trying the game is the whole experiance. Boom Blox is a weird concept but when you play you just enjoy yourself and even watching poeple you might think its kinda boring but thats the problem its a game that has to be played and until Nintendo of 3rd parties start trying to get demos out not much can happen.
