I used to play Chrono Cross single-disc CD1 and got half-way. Then I learnt about multi-disc and created a working multi-disc version. However I had to use a different game ID to get this working. My Chrono Cross game ID was detected as SLUS01041 (via PSX2PSP) and ofcourse this contains bugs (status crash, etc.) So I used SCUS94640 and this works perfectly. Guess what? I lost my game saves... because my game saves are stored in SLUS01041 folder. I don't think it's as easy as renaming folders. Does anyone know how to transfer the game saves?
I think I will have a problem will Metal Gear Solid 1 too. I got half-way using a single-disc CD1 using game ID SLES01370. Now I want to create a multi-disc but probably the game ID will be different....
Need a universal well-known way to transfer the saved games...

Copy the VMP files from the old folder and paste them into the new folder.

I tried that. It doesn't work and the VMP files actually get rewritten. I opened the files in Notepad and did a search & replace for the game code ids. That also doesn't work too.

the only way is this (need to have CWCheat installed):
- start CC with old GameID
- in CWCheat export save to *.MCR file
- save will be in that file on memory stick, change it name so it matches new GameID
- start CC with new GameID
- in CWCheat import save from *.MCR file

Actually this does work! Wow! The gameid must be integral in the pbp image.. regardless of what was typed in during conversion...

Using this way.. how would you change it's name? (step 3)

@andrewwan1980: what do you mean by "how" ? By plugging PSP to PC and changing name of the file ? Or using Filer on the PSP ?
