View Full Version : MS Denies upcoming impressive 360 dashboard update
Microsoft has denied reports which indicate a very impressive 360 dashboard update is coming. Some of the features included game installation, option to re-assign DRM protected dwonloads and the ability to remove games from a GamerCard. MS issued a comment that they do not comment on speculation or rumors but they can confirm that they have never seen the respective list of proposed features before.

i dont see why companies have to be so up tight about this crap, its an update not a new idea.

It'll be a shame if the list wasn't on the money, as some of the updates would be widely welcomed.

Disappointing, if these updates where coming you would think they would want to hype them, not keep them secret. So they're probably not coming.

I highly doubt microsoft will allow for a full game install on the hard drive. That would lead to very high abuse through rentals. I mean, look at the original Xbox after it was hacked thoroughly. I doubt 75% of the people who hacked theirs never bought another game. They just rented and returned it or borrowed a friends copy. Granted, that wasn't an official feature, but Microsoft knows that it happened. They will probably allow a partial install to speed up loading times possibly, but I doubt you will ever see full game installs.

Plus the current HDD's are not big enough for it. Also I would not pay what M$ wants for their HDD upgrades. $180 for a 120GB 2.5 SATA drive their nuts.

that can easily be prevented, go PC style, some can be installed to the hard drive but the CD is needed for verification.

Then what is the real point of the install? I know that can be prevented, but if I'm installing a game to my hard drive, I don't want to have to ever put the disc back in, otherwise what's the point of the install except to speed up load times?

who wouldn't want faster load times in GTA4?!?!
they could DRM the rip to all hell so it would expire after a while, then require you to reinsert the disc to re authenticate.

I just don't see it really happening anytime soon. Now I will admit Lost Odyssey would be a game I would like to do that to. There are just too many concerns with a full install that Microsoft has to cover. They would be opening themselves up to the homebrew community more than before. If this is a true update, that is where the exploit will be found to run homebrew natively.

So long as its optional I don't have a problem with it. The thing with the PS3 is its mandatory for some games, and the list keeps growing. Thats why people rip on it.

Yes Sony's name has something to do with it, but the biggest problem is that its supposed to be a gaming console, and installs were supposed to be a PC thing. Consoles should just be pop in and play.

Tell that to all the people who couldnt get the game to load, or had to delete everything and re-install it and hope that fixed the problem.
Load times aren't that bad, and neither is the pop in. I'll take that over not being able to play my game any day.

You make it seem like the load times are minutes long. Sure faster would be better, but not being able to play the game out of the box for 10-20 minutes to install and then the game either doesn't load or freezes requiring a complete uninstall and reinstall is a bit more problematic than waiting a couple of seconds during a loading screen.
If they do add the option for installs on the 360 I would install this game just because I plan on playing it for a while, but having to install every other game I buy just to be able to play it is not something I want out of my console regardless of which one it is.

I'd rather install everything if it makes the game better.

Well in my opinon I would KILL for the option to be able to install my games onto the 360's HDD. Bill give me a reason to buy one of your 120GB HDD. I can't believe any 360 owner would not want to be able to do this. Can you imagine playing a game with only the PSU fan running. I do like my Xbox and would have no other "GAMES CONSOLE". But M$ that DVD drive really is the pits. The noise the thing kicks out is just a joke, I play my games with headphones on just to get rid of the noise. Just try playing a Live Arcade game to see what a quieter world it could be. So please give me the option to do this and I will buy one of your 120GB HDD's.
