Sony: PS3 has a better line-up than the Xbox 360 in 2008

SCEE chief David Reeves recently told videogamer that the he feels the Xbox 360 has contributed amazingly to the growth of the industry and that it is not a sinking ship. However Reeves went onto say that he feels they have a better line-up of games coming than the 360 and that they will take the limelight this summer and Christmas.



While Reeve's comments won't surprise anyone, it is interesting to compare the two platforms' upcoming headline exclusives. Xbox 360 owners can expect Ninja Gaiden 2, Gears of War 2 and Fable 2 exclusively this year. PS3 owners will be enjoying Metal Gear Solid 4, Resistance 2 and LittleBigPlanet.

The thing is, for me im more looking forward to the new splinter cell than any of those other games, mgs, gears of war, etc.

It's a good year to be a gamer though, with lots for those with all tastes, but I think this will be more throwing gas on the fire for the one-console indoctrinated.

Good they put more games to populate the list, but I doubt that they will all eb good or otustanding at least. MGS4, little Big planet and GT5 for sure are the main reason... but jsut looking wardevil, and the otehrs makes you doubt. Oh, crap another non-serious-fighting game "Tekken" :(..

Cory149 is 100% correct. It does not matter if you own or are a fan boy of either console, what matter is there is competition to make each company work harder for your dollar, and charge you as little as possible for it. Both systems are great, and almost identical. I personally have a 360, but I know if Sony did not offer MS a run for its money, MS would just screw us over with high prices and shitty games. Be thankful both systems exist, as it only benefits us!

Putting Little gay planet and Resistance2 on the same list with MGS4 pretty much reveals the weakness of this lineup. I don't see Resistance2 getting out of the mediocrity swamp where Resistance1 is at home and Little gay planet is more of a PSN game than a retail product. Is there nothing else decent to put on the list?

Fable (so so for me as I don't have a lot of time for RPGs :o)

Multiplatform:

Resident Evil 5 (hopefully won't be delay to next year :o)

LBP for PS3 looks promising but it looks to kiddy for my taste. To me X360 will have best line up, not as good as last year, but good enough :).

Anyway if don't agree with me, go cry to your mama, as that's my opinion :p

GT5 and Killzone won't be coming out til 09, that's a fact. Most of the stuff on the list isn't 'must have' quality. The only thing on it that seems worthy of a system purchase, is MGS. Socom, Killzone, Resistance, and Haze are all just going to be sub-par shooters that bring nothing new to the table. Was never a fan of Tekken. Motorstorm 1 wasn't that great in the first place, it seemed better than it really was, because at the time that's all there was to play on the PS3. Getaway WILL NOT trump GTA4. InFamous and Wardevil look interesting, havne't heard anything about them yet, but most likely they will end up as 7/10 games. White Knight could fill in the missing RPG title on the PS3, but it's looking to be a mediocre title, like Eternal Sonata and Blue Dragon were on the 360. LittleBigPlanet...no comment. GT5, sorry but prolouge sucked. Big time. The only thing that game has going for it, are the graphics. If GT5 is going to shine, they need to tweak the physics A LOT, include custom soundtracks (anyone who played Prolouge will agree that it had the worst soundtrack of all time), widen the car selection (GT4 had 76 Skyline's, waste of space), and improve the external camera (shouldn't be fixed on the car, or atleast offer a loose camera, similar to every other racing game out there).

Sorry, but Too Human and Fable 2 look a lot more interesting than ALL the games on the PS3 (I'm not into the MGS series, I never understood the reality behind carrying a trash can in your back pocket). My PS3 will prob just sit around and be used for Blu-Ray, which is why I bought it. I'll just stick to GTA4 and Mario Kart for the next few months.

The 4 best games of 2008 will be:

1. MGS4 (including MGO)- Most likely to be greatest game of all time... deal with it. MGO is awesome... a lot better then I expected, the best multiplayer experience this far in 2008.

2. Gears of War 2 - The online part will last for months! Can't bloody wait.

3. Battlefield: BC - Read above.

4. GTA4 - Enough said.

well there are only a couple titles on each console that i'm looking forward to picking up this year, not very many at all to be honest on either console.

but that's one advantage to owning more than one console, you can always find something to pick and play, no matter what console. so owning more than one console has advantages and a person doesn't have to devote most of their time justifying thier single console choice or spend alot of time trying to put down the other console owners.

The fanboys eat it up but honestly even if it was glaringly (imho they are pretty equal, lots of exclusives for both were not even mentioned and two of the titles mentioned (Fable and LBP) are so niche that they wont even make a blip in overall sales compared to the others) worse than the 360's do you really think a Sony exec would say so, in reverse would you expect a MS exec to admit defeat? Due to the last two generations where PS brand ruled so far , most hardcore gamers take PS3 coming in top for granted, but I would handle that with care, specially if you think the amrket today is not about hardcore gaming only anymore. Maybe PS brand comes on Top, bt I don't think it would be that abismal difference like before, more like a tiny % over the others on the 5th year. And clearly, Wii and 360 will be the first to upgrade to a brand new generation.

i agree, every system has it's strong and weak points. i can find games to play on all systems.

but of course we didn't all start with nintendo and mario. some of date back to a tennis like court with two large block paddles and a square ball that bounced back and fourth, made 'bing sound' and added a score to the opposite person that missed the square ball.

then we advanced to small blocks that moved around, made a sine wave noise to simulate a tank that fired smaller square bullets at other small block tanks ;)

yeah i could have mention alot of block games enjoyed back then. i just showed my daughter the atari 2600 emulator on my gp2x-f200 to show her some early games i played when i was 12 or 13. she couldn't believe the difference between then and now playing games on our ps3, 360 or her wii.

Looking back, I feel that, on those times, there was a lot more of ur own imagination playing a big role to make the thing works, that's why the market was so restricted, ;). But now with 3D , and stylish enviroments most of that is gone.
Also , they were more "healthy", because you wouldn't stay ALL day playing those blocky thigns, I would go out to play or make some moves, bike, etc. :D
