MS say 360 GTA IV is outselling PS3 2-to-1, Sony disagree

Aaron Greenberg, director of product management for Xbox 360 and Xbox Live recently said in an interview that their retail parteners have told them that the Xbox 360 version of the game is outselling the PS3 version by a margin of two-to-one. SCEA have rubbished the claims saying that this "doesn't line up" with what they've hearing from its retailer partners.

first off let me start by saying i cant look at your posts without laughing, that gangsta sig is hilarious. id have to guess there neck and neck in terms of sales. ms are one for rushing comments and sony is no different. ms will say its better but only mention us and sony will do the same but for other countries. all in all it really doesnt matter just so long as it does good on both platforms because good sales for both means more sequels for both

I've just come from the most famous GAME shop in the region were I live, all PS3 versions were sold out and 360 ones everywhere and still people didn't buy them, I guess they prefer waiting for new PS3 stock. LOL I should've taken a picture for you guys to see.

maybe it has to do wtih the fact they ordered more 360 copies because of the bigger userbase?
being out of stock in one console over the other doesnt mean anything unless they started with the same stock.

My local Walmart had 2 big stacks of both of = size I will take a look at how they sold when I get my HDMI cable. I am guessing the PS3 version will have more copy's as I am the only person that I know with the exception of maybe one person that has a PS3 were I live but i know about 6 with 360s... 4 had RRoD... just saying and my best friends even with a new inercooler is freezing again.:p

around by me In NY on the release date,not counting big retail chains Bestbuy, walmart ect. all EB's and gamestops were sold out of both versions of the game.

Seriously, why does this matter to any of us? Who cares, if the game sells well (which was guaranteed) they will make more. Sales will help both consoles. I want good games for both more sales means more console users which means more games for all. Why sweat over who "wins" sales have already shown that all 3 are going to "succeed" this generation there is no dreamcast this time around so why not celebrate that instead of worrying about maybe having the 3rd place console. This could very well be the golden age of modern console gaming but most seem to do nothing but ***** and whine about it.

@grapeape QFT. This is ms and sony thinking they can toot for more sales. Still have an interest in sales numbers especially 1 week and 1 year when it's a record breaker and boy is this a big one. Its a great boost to both ps3 and 360.

As for those banging on about "PS3 copies sold out so no more sales" "No 360 on shelf but 300 copies for PS3" the situation here is very different. Both £70 special editions sold like s*** and you can walk into most stores and pick one up online too.

It seems that one day after release GAME among others took all copies that didn't get pre-ordered (maybe extra allocated stock) and made £60 bundles for both ps3 and 360. GTAIV/Sixaxis/360 Pad/DMC4/Bully/K&L.

GAME also have a deal on where you get £10 off another game when you buy DMC4 (£30) instore. but online unless you select that item you're paying £70 instead of £60. GAME are really trying to screw people for extra cash.

ok im in a little bit of a rut here. i was going to get gta4 on 360,but my account is locked on silver.ever since my debit card got charged 270 bucks worth of MS points in mid march(fraud),i've decided not to put a debit/cc on my account again. im going for the prepaid route.so MS had given me 8 months of gold service(redeem codes) in january for a problem i had back then.(stolen GT).so the 1st set expired in april. now i cant even use any of the other redeem codes(i have 5 months left of gold). of course i call MS(never any help at all)im locked because i have to update my billing info.meaning i NEED to put a CC back on the profile. WTF is so hard to just inlock it and let me go the redeem codes/prepaid way? do they not see that i was frauded 2months ago,why would they have the nerve to tell me its the only way to go back to gold status!!!nobody called me back,like they said they were. so im still locked on silver. so now im going to have to get the ps3 version for free online.i just have more friends on 360 than ps3. but my main concern is in the future,if they can never unlock it unless i put a CC(which i refuse) then im screwed out of multiplayer forever?? so my decision to get either version was resting on MS,and if they dont wanna fix it,then i guess no more gold account for me on 360.way to go MS. im buyin the ps3 version after work today.

Dude this should be easy for you to decide. If you have more friends that own a PS3, and plan on playing the PS3 version online, get that. But it if you have more friends with 360's get that version. Also Xbox 360 has DLC which in my eyes, is the most important thing. Which made me decide what version i was getting.

PS3 pro's:
- HDD install, which is beneficial for loadtimes
- almost no pop-up
- more AA, making the game less blocky

PS3 con's:
- Some systems have had lock-up and game-freeze issues

360 pro's:
- more DLC then the PS3 will get.

360 con's:
- more pop-up
- more grainy picture

the graphic differences on the systems can apperently only be seen when looking at them side by side, and because of the different way both consoles render, the overall look of the game is somewhat different, but that is a matter of taste... the 360 version has more "sharp edges" to it, making it look like a very good computer game, while the PS3 version is softer making it look more "realistic"....

also, the xbox version is brighter, but that isn't really something big, since you can adjust that in-game and on your TV-set.

as a final note... both versions look awesome and it doesn't really matter which version you buy.... like some reviewers have stated: the only way to decide which version is best for you, is to get the one your friends have so you can play online with them

Thats not actually correct. PS3 has 0xAA, 360 has 2xAA. This is why the 360 has sharper edges.

Instead of AA they used a "soften" filter on the PS3. This helps to hide the fact that they have major "jaggies", but reduces the overal quality of the image. It's like the difference looking through a clean window (360) and one coated with cooking oil (PS3).

Both display essentually the same image, but the clarity is different due to the different filtering techniques.

This type of difference, as well as the seemingly routine sub HD resolutions, improper shadowing effects seen in a lot of titles, and the framerate issues with things like Orange Box make me very wary of the PS3.

The hardware has a lot of promise, and while I agree it's going to take a mindset shift to program for the Cell that is not the real problem we are seeing in these games because the Cell CAN be used in the same way as a more traditional processor requiring no learning curve unless you want to use the SPE's (vector processors).

I think it should be obvious that like MS, Sony has some real hardware based issues to deal with, particularly with their GPU. The difference is that MS is replacing consoles that RROD, and supposedly is redesigning to make it less likely to happen (so eventually your RROD console may be replaced with one that won't RROD). There has been no news of Sony fixing (or even admitting to) the myriad hardware problems in the PS3.

I would say the crashing on both systems indicates it is a problem with the game engine, but the fact that it happens more on the PS3 may also point to it being something harware related as well, like the framerate issues in OB.

I'm not a fanboy of either, but will not be buying a PS3 until Sony owns up to the flaws in the hardware and starts releasing fixed systems.

No matter how hard people will try and justify there opinions...FACE there will be NO clear winner in this console war. And quite frankly it would suck if there wasn't a choice of different consoles. Just look at Blu-ray, ever since HD went belly up, Sony quit lowering there prices on the Blu-ray players. The bloody movies are $30 bucks. Thanks but no thanks.

I agree. I own both systems and couldn't be happier with them. What I don't get from one, I get from the other. They are the yin and yang in game systems as far as I'm concern. To only have one and hate the other is just a shame. Both systems have a lot to offer and a "true" gamer would realize and appreciate that.

I ended up giving in and buying it today, I swore I wouldnt but got an offer I couldnt refuse and picked it up for less than half price. I still havent bothered to take the shrink wrap off but its the 360 version. I figured on the off chance I actually get more than an hours worth of amusement I may as well have the one that will end up with more content. Dont really see live as factor I pay for it anyway so "online" costs dont really matter to me.
