It sounds interesting, I'm very curious about it. If you can't fight against them, enjoy them.:p

there is really no need for the bd 360. an addon drive would be sufficient, but since i already have a ps3 to go along with my wii and 360, i really don't need another bd playback unit, but some 360 owners may want to have an external bd drive for a lower cost, than a separate bd player that for some reason, pricing is still too high.

introducing a bd 360 would separate the 360 market and only cause more confusion that really isn't necessary. game makers really can't release titles on bd since the already 18+ million 360 owners don't have a bd drive.

microsoft is pretty much stuck with the dvd9 format this generation for game playback. if they had put hddvd drives in those 18+ million already sold 360's, then the format war outcome would be totally different.

the only way for microsoft not to create consumer confusion and market separation like sony has with the different skus over the last year and a half is not to include a bd drive in the 360. there is no reason to drive up costs of the console just to include a hi-def movie playback source. let the consumers decide if they wish to part with their monies by having an add-on drive.

personally, microsoft should leave well enough alone and just let the ps3 and other bd players have the bd movie playback market and then just include a bd drive in the next console, and of course continue to have b/c to allow older titles to run.

I too, think that a built-in BR drive for the 360 would be a mistake. It will only make that new BR 360 pricier than the PS3 anyway, which would make this miss the point entirely. Current 360 owners won't trade-in their 360s for a BR model if it costs more than the PS3.

The only BR solution that would work on the 360 is an add-on unit priced competitively (meaning, a lot less than a PS3). If Microsoft can come up with a BR add-on that would sell for 200$ or less, it sure would stop many 360 owners from buying a PS3 for BR playback.

I'm still not sure about buying the add-on if it comes out though, given the superb "reliability" of the 360 hardware, getting the RRoD would mean losing BOTH my game console and BR player. Hmmm. Let me think about that again.... no.

damn rumours

ITS NOT HAPPENING. 360 wants to concentrate on downloadable HD content. not BluRay.

Plus the price of the 360 would sky rocket, and totally screw up the product life cycle.

If anything its prototyoe for a next next gen xbox.

I still dont see the point of this. I still havent even seen the HD-DVD addon outside of store shelves back when it was selling. I just dont think 360 users are real interested in movies, those that are appear to be happy with upscaling dvd or streaming. They wont make games on blu-ray, they cant due to the existing install base so basically all they would be doing is adding to the retail price with little hope of return.

If they are really thinking about adopting blu ray then they need to come out with an add on that plays both blu ray and hd dvd. That way we can still use our dead formats while we upgrade to the blu ray format. I sure wish someone would come out with a all in one simple software that would allow me to convert all my hd dvd to blu ray. I really don't want to buy transformers and the matrix trilogy again, and they're taking up too much space on all my hard drives.

What's BR???? I think you mean BD.;)

I totaly agree with you... it ABSOLUTLY pointless to make a BD add-on or BD built-in 360.... games will never be released on 360 on BD, since that would mean most players can't play it, and as a movie playback device it's dumb since most prices of BD-drives will go down in the coming year, making the add-on drive completly useless.

MS would have to pay sony for the rights, making it all the more expensive.

This isn't true...

There is no contract to make new 360's. This TW magazine is BS... The Asus(pegatron) contract is to repair 360's at the moment. This Blue ray thing isn't going to happen..

Asus did make the first 600,000 PS3 that was shipped. Currently they also make PS2s...

If this version of the 360 does appear then it would mean more sales for MS. Some people would buy it, and it could reduce piracy on the 360 or even stop it if all future titles come out on BD. However that would alienate 18 million or so 360 owners so that is a no no.
