View Full Version : Bought a wii and a wii key...now what

whats up, obviously im new here but im not new to modding consoles. I decided to buy a used wii that works great it is a GC2-D2B and does not have the pins cut. I went ahead and ordered a wiikey now im just waiting for it to come in the mail. Before i put this thing in, i would like to have a couple of questions answered.

1. My wii has the newest nintendo update installed. Will this effect how the chip works

2. Can i just put the chip in and start running backups or do i need to configure it.

1. no, not really

2. sure, but you're going to want to update to 1.9s first. im guessing you want to play some big game like smash bros or mario galaxy/kart - so yeah - update it.

i saw on the wiikey site that there is a config file as well. what does that do

It lets you change your settings. You might want to burn that off too just to make sure all the region patching settings are enabled.

Basically the WiiKey has 2 types of config discs, 1.2 and 1.3. 1.2 is needed in order to use 1.3. After that you have 1.9b (basic WiiKey update -compatibility) 1.9g (Super Mario Galaxy UPD) and 1.9s/x (SSBB support among other fixes).

That is all that is currently available, you will not do any harm by doing all the updates.

That is all that is currently available, you will not do any harm by doing all the updates.

There is NO need to flash EVERY update.

the latest update - 1.9s - has all the same features and functionality of 1.9b/1.9g as well as the later fixes for 1.9s.

As you can see, I did not say he had to do all the updates, I meant to say he would not do harm if he had already done the previous updates.

just install your chip, run the update 1.9s then run the config disc 1.4
