its 100% useless, sometimes during certain operations the ps3 won't let you eject, he's just found a supposed 'bug'.

the "exploit" is one that, when you use a special type of hardware to "mod" your PS3, the eject button fails....

the hardware for this mod is 100% legal and can be found in any normal household...
it's called "TAPE"

to use this mod follow below steps.
1: use a crappy TV, so the screen can't be seen all that good
2: take a camera and let some fake data roll over your screen... film this.
3: set the camera down next to the PS3
4: rip some tape from it's roll (Scotch works best) and apply it over the eject button
5: pick up your camera and tape the front of your PS3
6: wipe your finger over the eject button (DON'T PUSH!!! the mod will fail to work if you push) and prove the mod works.
7: place the footage on a "I-WANT-ATTENTION!!!"-server

voila... your very own hardware exploit

in short: FAKE!
(and allready proven to be fake on several other sites and boards)

@Xghost360
Get your console checked... you don't have to push the button... touching it (or wiping) is the way it should work... if it doesn't... the eject button is messed up.

What I don't get is why I should even care even if he didn't fake anything at all.

you know, maxconsole doesnt read what they post.
as long as it seems to be game-related, they ctrl+c/ctrl+v it.

?? how can this be a exploit, the blu-ray drive is not OS or console firmware related,it could only be (if) related to the blu-ray firmware. Just like your pc dvd(or blu-ray) drive, the eject works whitout a pc.

Wow! This exploit actually works. And thanks to the seriously hard work of Sniper I can play all the homebrew I want! I can even play my PS2 games on my PS3! Haven't tried a PS1 game but since this xploit opens your PS3 to being able to play all games from all systems, I'm sure it will work! I just got done playing NBA 2k1 for Dreamcast, and now I've jammed a copy of Super Mario World into the disk tray and amazingly... IT STILL WONT EJECT! Who would have thought that not being able to eject my disk tray would lead to so much happiness. Now if I could just eject the disk so I could play The Simpsons game, which I ripped from Blu-ray to a blank HD-DVD, then re-ripped to a CD-R because this exploit does everything anyone would have ever wanted to do on a PS3 ever. It even unlocks Xbox360 achievments so I can up my gamerscore while on my PS3. Even comes with a built in DS emulator so you never have to take that big-bulky DS with you anywhere, just slip the PS3 into your pocket and your ready to go.

Sorry, went off on a rant I agree with phreaker47... even if he didnt fake it... who the **** cares? From now on, until I see an ISO loader (not even being able to run a copy of a Blu-ray game... why would you spend $600 on a burner and $25 on the disk to copy a $60 game?), or real homebrew (not running in Linux mode, or off a PSP with the TV-Output turned on) then it's not news. Even a Hello World that wasn't completely fake would be a nice change of pace.

i have to agree with everything you've said (post above) except the part about copying games, if you think about it like you said $600 for burner, $25 for disks, then it would not necessarily mean a baddeal, for instance if you chose to burn 10 games, then you would need $250 worth of disks, and the $600 burner, and only save yourself $600, while if you chose to burn 100 ps3 games(you might lol) then it would only cost you $600 for the burner and $2500 for the disks, so you'd save yourself $2900 in the long run.I was going to explain this in a fixed/variable costs way but figured that most users here could not understand it.:o

Now I'm not saying this is real (doesn't look real), but....

If it was not done with tape, it does lead to some interesting questions that I think people are overlooking...

Like:

If loading OtherOS, then re-entering the dash causes the eject button to stop working, this may be a sign that "stuff" gets left in memory, or that a full system reset does not happen when switching between the two. If this is indeed the case, then by injecting something into the memory that doesn't get wiped then booting back to the dash you could concievably alter the behavior of the system.

If so, there is no telling what you potentially could feed into the system and get it to do. If this is the case, it is an EXPLOIT as it is exploiting either a mistake or a characteristic of the system.

There have been cross reboot exploits before that were a result of improper resetting of the hardware or bad memory wiping on reset. So it is not out of the question for this to happen here.

All that said, the video does look bad, and doesn't prove much. But has anyone actually tried this to see if booting OtherOS and then going back to the dash makes the eject button stop working? I don't have a PS3 so can't try.

Why the fu3k does anyway care if it's fake or not!? This """"EXPLOIT""""" means nothing.... As it does absolutely nothing. No point in even trying to prove it's false as it's probably a stupid bug; if it was real.

Nice fucking TV! I bet the PS3 costs twice as much as that TV did. LOL. The only "Exploit" I see is when that guy walked out of the store with that TV and connected it to his PS3 ;):D

there is another vid that he uses that proves that the exploit is real. Spiker left the ps3hax forum and said that he gave his code for the exploit to more experienced devs. Possibly to some devs on maxconsole.

youtube video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OHX70ilDKlQ&eurl=http://www.ps3hax.net/announcement/3722-access-system-files-found-under-fw-2-17-a.html)

PS3hax indulged those "TeamICE" motherfuckers, and now no one remembers the definition of "exploit". All he found was a glitch...a rather useless one.

The PS3 is not "hacked" until we find a way to sign our code, run unsigned code, or replace/simulate the optical drive.
