View Full Version : PSN hacked notice: There has been unauthorized access to user accounts of PS Store
Official European Playstation sites have posted a notice to users that there has been a possibility of unauthorized access to personal information on the PLAYSTATION Store through PCs. They are asking users to verify there account is intact by signing in to the PSN (if your pre-set password works you are unaffected).
Notice to PLAYSTATIONŽNetwork Users
We have found out that there has been a possibility of unauthorized access to personal information on the PLAYSTATIONŽStore through PCs, a content download service of the PLAYSTATIONŽNetwork. Although unlikely, it is possible that the passwords of a small percentage of PLAYSTATIONŽNetwork users may have been changed through unauthorized access, making it possible to view users personal information and/or use the Wallet for the PLAYSTATIONŽStore. PLAYSTATION Network accounts do not display entire credit card numbers, so any unauthorized access to your PLAYSTATION Network account is very unlikely to compromise your credit card number.
We have taken immediate measures to rectify this issue and system security is restored.
We have investigated the extent of unauthorized access and possible alteration of passwords that could have occurred before corrective measures were taken, and are directly contacting customers who may have been affected by this incident. In order to verify that your account is intact, we strongly suggest that PLAYSTATIONŽNetwork users sign in to the service. If you can successfully sign in with your pre-set password, your account is not affected by this incident.
For more information, please contact Customer Service.
Remember; do not disclose your log-in or password details on any email communications.

its a good thing psn doesn't cost the 10th of a cent an hour to play.. otherwise im sure thered be alot of unhappy psn users due to the possible hundreds of dollars lost from someone 'owning' their psn account

 Maybe I should change my LIVE id password... Oh wait XBL is safe.
XBL has had a problem with account stealing and early on the 360 a news item was reported that people had phoned up MS with just a gamertag and email and had obtained passwords over the phone, the accounts then got sold in brazil or something (there's a market for hacked accounts now)
This is not a funny attack on a sony website but they have great phone support, if the attackers are listening.. next time make everything free and inform us :p

PSN users DO get banned.....both consoles have the same price point on accessories other than the "range/choice" of accesories....nice try though and the whole RROD has been beaten to death (wish i could filter just the term RROD on the forums)

This information has been known for a while - and how anyone can do it...
Sony didn't seem interested though when reported..

I know:rolleyes: I was being a fanboy like KillPlaystation:p but i do think the memory cards are overpriced and same with hard drives. I think they should be around the price of flash drives/hard drives the same size. You can't buy third party 360 hard drives and memory cards which makes M$ charge whatever they want for them. For the ps3 you can get an old $5 usb keyboard like me or you can get the offical PS3 keyboard for $50-$60 (can't remember exact price) and same goes with hard drives and so on.... i am really getting off topic:D

This is about phising via email/website/etc. So if you gave your id & passwords to phisers then the bank/forum/psn/xbl infrastructure is unsecure?

Microsoft gets hacked all the time, I dunno what ur so jolly about.
Only difference is... Microsoft tries to keep it on the down low and rather not tell you that your acct has been compromised.

Really? You don't consider $129.99 for 20gb and $229.99 for 120gb a ripoff? Or $99.99 for a wireless adaptor? You realize that $109.99 gets you a 250gb internal hard drive and a 500gb internal hard drive for $169.99. And, a wireless adaptor is free on the PS3 :p

Well this doesn't surprise me at all, these type of things will happen, and eventually make the PSN more secure. The same thing happened to Live, and I'm pretty sure that if your account was used, you could get your money back. All sony, or any other company, can do about these type of things is, as they say, prepare for the worst, and hope for the best.

I think they should be around the price of flash drives/hard drives the same size.
They shouldn't just be the price of flash drives/regular 2.5" hard drives, they should BE off the shelf flash drives and hard drives. the bs proprietary memory cards, in the era of huge cheap flash drives, have to be the lamest product ever released in the history of man, and not allowing the hdd in the proprietary shell to be replaced isn't much better.
oh, and for the record I'd vote to ban killplaystation too.

yess but mr smart ass, they aren`t sonys prices, if the ps3 didnt let you use any hard drive you wanted then they would charge a bomb, dont belive me? look at the price of the Go explorer for the psp, they charge high prices too, why? because people buy them.

where the hell do you see Go! Explore for sale? seriously, take your medicine.
btw sony did have 1st party HDD's and they were always part of a bundle (Final
Fantasy, PS2 linux) and gave you more than 20 gigs, for $100. Don't defend microsoft
on that issue.

i didnt, its just stupid the amount of people on here who expect companies to give them good prices for their goods, ofcourse they will sell for high prices, they start with high prices and if it doesnt sell then they lower the prices
and i havent seen the go! explorer for sale, ive seen prices its going to sell for.

The problem with that defense is that the ps3 DOES allow you to use any hardrive and if MS would have done the same thing for the 360 then we wouldn't even be touching the issue. Even if sony start selling official ps3 HDDs at the same prices as MS, you would still have the option to buy a cheaper regular HDD, so it really wouldn't matter.

The only thing that would worry me with this is that my Live account only has no credit card info attached to it while my PSN account does...those PSN cards just arent getting here fast enough.
