Thtas a bunch of crap! How do they know if you do or dont? Even if they can tell, who cares. They are only trying to scare people. I seen threads (Possibly started by sony) saying the downrader screwed up their PSP, but dont give details/what they did wrong so others can learn.

Its like saying I cant use 3rd party apps on my PocketPC or PC. I am going to do it no matter what.

Your Investment!

And yes they CAN tell, there are MANY utilities to DUMP firmware ("Not located on your Memory Stick") which can show what is there, BRICKED or NOT, and Sony can and could distribute one of these to their stores so that the store can decide if it should VOID your warranty.

Yes, of course you can do ANYTHING you wish, Sony can ONLY Advise, much like some states can advise you NOT to use CRACK in your CAR, because if you get CAUGHT, they OWN your car, lol.

the psp most likely does an erase before write cycle so a dump wouldnt give them any information <- not proved

unless the upadater leave a trace behind so it can be checked not to give sony any ideas lol.

but if the above doesnt take place other things can go wrong other than flashing that take place under warranty you would just upgrade to the latest version atleast to cover your back as it seems son policy to upgrade.

tbh tho there is a bunch of tech guys on this forum now including me that will create a repair manual for most common faults + people are always willing to sell spares.

What does erase before write have to do with anything if you BRICK your PSP during the HomeBrew install, something will be there, and Sony can find it, and easily, at that.

and an erase before write on failed downgrade wipes everything clean before the update so they cant find thing so dont be silly.

if you actually brick the psp by dding a corrupt file thst would be the only way they would know stop being paranoid and scare people i know many people who have exchanged psp's with sony during experimentation ending in a brick.

give it time and hardware will be released to reflash your psp if you brick it everything has a service mode or bootloader you can send externally for repairs

This is NOT true, yes the orginal bin file or EBOOT file 'Starts' from your memory stick, however, changes are done to the firmware located internally as well.

Example: The last downgrader modifed the INTERNAL firmware 2.0 version to make it THINK it was 1.0 so yu could UPGRADE to 1.5x, now since the firmware really was Still 2.0 AND ONLY MODIFIED A FEW BYTES removing your memory stick would NOT help you NOT get caught, lol

oh shut up lol < sarcasm your wrong ;P i said if it fails at the downgrade point, and the swap over process is one to the door pick our old one up been that way since the ps1 and the never chase stuff up even with parts missing out of the one going back sony are just using scare tactics nd you re doing the mongering.

there is only a small chance you would brick the psp thats down to user error so simply dont brick our psp i

Well, We won't argue with someone who has NO idea about how firmware can be dumped and needs to tell people to "Shut UP!" LOL

Grow up!

You are having a laugh EnTiTy knows moor than you can ever know. i have sent for repair PS1 and 2 in one case it had a mod chip in thay fixed it and sent it back with the chip taped to the top no letter no bull s**t no nothing

Check you facts it was done in ram in the user mode this only writes to the flash when the update starts which is Sony's

Just to top this off if the firmware/PSP brick as a error than it will not dump so thay can't check any think .Thay erase then reflash over writing the old with a clean install

Grow up!ok sony use a software protocol to gain access to the flash if the ipl or data structure of the flash is damaged they dont get access to the flash at ALL because the bootloader ipl cannot be accessed this simple enough for you ? it cannot.

the only other option would be to replace the bga "ball grid array" chip package that contains the flash data or read it after removal too MUCH WORK FOR SONY.

i deal with mobile phone flash mainly and repairs HAVE DONE FOR THE LAST 10 YEARS but its the same thing flash and firmware also you could always talk to an old freind of mine gradius who hacked the pioneer dvd writers to death but what do i know, i know nothing about firmwares and how they can be dumped and modified ;)
